1. At the beginning of the 20th century, the number of tigers in the wild was around 100 000.
the number of意为“……的数量”，它的中心词是number，
引导短语作主语时，谓语动词要用单数形式：
The number of the students is over 2000 in our school.
a number of 表示“许多、大量的”，相当于many，
修饰可数名词复数。作主语时，谓语动词用复数。
number前可用large，small等修饰，表示程度。例如：
The number of students in our class is 50.
The number of pages in this book is 60.

在英语中reason常和for连用，意为“……的原因”，
但和because不在一个句子中出现。
Eg: The reason for the fire was that the weather was dry .

in danger of意为“处于……危险之中”。例如
