第一民族（First Nations），是一个加拿大的种族名称，与印地安人（Indian）同义，指的是在现今加拿大境内的北美洲原住民及其子孙，但是不包括因努伊特人和梅提斯人。加拿大土著民族包括印第安人、因纽特人和梅第人。因纽特人很久以前就居住在加拿大北极圈附近及阿拉斯加。梅第人是欧洲人与印第安人的混血。印第安人有的有身份，有的无身份。有身份的印第安人是指那些在官方登记处注册过的、在印第安人法令管理下的印第安人，他们自称为“第一民族”，以表明自己是最早居住在美洲大陆的主人。从文化人类学的视角来看，有身份的印第安人与无身份的印第安人在文化上没有区别。现在，人们通常用“第一民族”泛指所有的印第安人，偶尔也有人用“第一民族”泛指所有土著民族。

知识梳理
1.Grandpa, did people go fishing a long time ago
◆go fishing意为“去钓鱼”,类似的短语还有:go hunting去打猎;go swimming去游泳;go skiing去滑雪;go skating去滑冰,go climbing去爬山。

◆a long time ago意为“很久以前”。“一段时间+ago”用于一般过去时。

at that time意为“在那时”,常用于一般过去时。
At that time, people didn’t have enough food to eat.在那时,人们没有足够的食物吃。
3.Our people always went fishing and hunting for food.
hunt作动词,意为“打猎,搜索”,常构成短语go hunting, 表示“去打猎”, hunt for sth.意为“搜索某物”,和look for同义。

spend作动词,表示“花费”,主语是人,常用于以下结构:spend time (in) doing sth.意为“花费……时间做某事”;spend money on sth.“花费金钱在某物上”。
I spend half an hour doing exercise every day.
我每天花费半个小时做运动。
【拓展】　(1)take表示“花费”时,后面常跟双宾语,It takes sb.+时间+to do sth.“某人做某事花了多少时间”,只指“花费时间”,it为形式主语,后面的动词不定式是真正的主语。
It takes me half an hour to finish the work.
我花费了半个小时完成工作。
(2)cost作动词,表示“花费”,其过去式和过去分词是cost,主语是物,可以表示“值多少钱”,常见用法如下:
①sth.costs+金钱,意为“某物价值多少”。
The dress costs 100 yuan.
这条连衣裙花了100元。
②sth.costs(sb.)+金钱,意为“某物花了(某人)多少钱”。
The pen costs me 16 yuan.
这支钢笔花了我16元。
(3)pay作动词,表示“付款”,过去式是paid,主语是人,常用词组:pay for “为……付款”,pay (sb.) money for sth.“付钱(给某人)买……”。
My dad paid 3,000 yuan for the computer.
我爸爸花了3 000元买这台电脑。
