1. play against… 与……比赛
e.g.

2.take sb.out意为“伴随或陪伴某人(去剧院、饭店等)；带某人出去”。
eg：He took his wife out for dinner on her birthday.
他在妻子过生日那天带她出去吃饭。
3.if/ f/conj.如果；假若
if意为“如果；假若”时，引导的从句叫条件状语从句。在条件状语从句中，从句用一般现在时表示一般将来时，主句用一般将来时(即主将从现)。
eg：If it snows tomorrow，we'll make a snowman.
如果明天下雪，我们将堆雪人。
4.in the 1840's在十九世纪四十年代(即1840－1849年)
“在十九世纪四十年代”也可以写成in the 1840s, in 1840意为“在1840年”。
eg：My grandpa was born in the 1940s.
我祖父生于二十世纪四十年代。
年代表达法：
在15世纪： in the 15th century
在21世纪： in the 21st century
在1500年：in the year 1500 或 in 1500
在2005年： in the year 2005 或 in 2005
在19世纪50年代： in the 1850s 或 in the 1850's

Baseball is the national sport of the U.S. It became very popular there in the 1840's .“Take Me Out to the Ball Game” is a popular song about baseball. Almost every baseball fan can sing this song. Jack Norworth wrote the words in 1908.But he never went to a baseball game before he wrote the song.
