【人与社会·人际交往】(2023江苏沛县五中月考)
Julie and Cassandra first met when they worked together in America. They soon became good friends.
They both lived with their mothers, but not biological(生物学的) ones. They often joked that they were so similar that they could be sisters. Even coworkers noticed how similar the two were. “I looked at them and said, ‘Are you sisters ’” Courtney, their coworker said. Their mothers adopted(收养) them both from the Dominican Republic within a few months. So the two always thought that they might connect with(联系) each other.
Julie’s childhood friend, Molly, was also from the Dominican Republic. Their adopted mothers were friends. The adoption papers showed that they had the same last name. However, a DNA test showed that Molly and Julie were only cousins, not sisters. This made the two know that Julie’s adoption papers were wrong.
In 2018, Cassandra traveled to the Dominican Republic to do more studies on her family. There, she met her biological father and knew the truth. Cassandra’s parents had nine kids. They had difficulty in caring for so many kids, so they gave her and another daughter up for adoption.
After knowing the truth, Cassandra quickly called Julie and asked her to take a DNA test. The result showed the two were biological sisters with the same mother and father.
Their story later got popular when Cassandra shared it on the Internet. “It’s exciting. We both have a sister,” Cassandra said. “This is the type of thing which you can see on TV,” Julie said.

【新独家原创】
We all get bored from time to time. For most of us, doing nothing is not fun. But for some experts, it sounds like a gift. Why Because they believe a little boredom(无聊) can be good for our health.
In the past, boredom was a fact of life. It was a world without smart phones, computers or TVs. On a long train journey, kids just looked out of the window and lost in daydreams. Sometimes after school, they might wonder what to do with themselves. Maybe they read all the books at home and played all the games a hundred times.
It was not that kids in the past enjoyed boredom. Just like now, it was thought as a bad thing. The difference is that today, boredom is a lot easier to avoid. We have so many things to do when we’re bored. We can chat with our friends, watch movies and TV shows online, and listen to music.
Being bored is bad. It can easily make people get into bad habits, like eating too much junk food. Brothers and sisters are more likely to fight when they’re bored. And a house full of bored kids can put parents in a difficult position.
So if boredom is so bad, why do some experts say we need more of it Well, it has something to do with our brain(大脑). Our brain needs a rest as much as our body does. When we’re bored, we’re letting our brain get some rest at the same time. It’s like when a sportsman takes time off from running. Then we’ll become healthier. As you can see, being bored is not a bad thing.
