The input Dad has on my career is incomparable. My earliest memories are of Dad sitting in the kitchen playing the guitar, listening to his favourite song by his favourite singer, and encouraging his little girl to poke(戳)keys randomly on the piano. Even watching Top of the Pops, he would get so passionate about music in it. We weren't a religious family, but there was something spiritual about Dad's connection with music.
Music also became a source of comfort for me. I failed to do well academically at school and had no friends. Being at school consumed so much of my emotional energy. Instead of going to school to learn stuff, I felt as though I was simply trying to get people to like me. Things were better, but the only time I truly felt happy was when I was at home listening to music with Mum and Dad or writing songs on the piano-and the older I got, the more powerful music felt.
Dad was always my biggest supporter. When I started giving live performances at the local bar, he was the one who drove me there and back. Freeing up that time wasn't easy for an actor. His job might mean three weeks in the Czech Republic or working with George Lucas on The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones in Hollywood.
Dad has been involved with some amazing stuff, but Daddy Pig is the one that's had the biggest impact all over the world. When I was flying to Australia for my first tour, I was trying to find something to watch on the little screen and I noticed they had Peppa Pig. If I'm missing home and family, I always put it on. Daddy Pig is a fairly real version of my dad-he loves chocolate cake, he's funny and usually breaks things when he's trying to mend them. Mum and Dad were friends with one of the producers of the show and I often wonder if he looked at my dad and thought, "That's him… that's Daddy Pig."

The world has faced an unprecedented(前所未有的)food crisis in 2022-the largest in modern history, like conflict, the COVID-19 pandemic, climate crisis and rising costs have combined to pose great risks for hungry people across the world. As many as828 million people go to bed hungry every night. The number of those facing acute food insecurity has risen from 135 million to 345 million since 2019. A total of 49 million people in 49 countries are suffering hunger, according to figures from the United Nations' World Food Programme.
"We are facing an unprecedented global food crisis and all signs suggest we have not yet seen the worst. For the last three years, hunger numbers have repeatedly hit new peaks," WFP Executive Director David Beasley said. He warned that things can and will get worse unless there is a large-scale and coordinated(协调一致的)effort to address the causes of this crisis.
There are many reasons for prevailing(盛行的)high levels of food insecurity. These reasons include conflicts, climate changes and weather extremes, economic slowdowns and downturns. In addition, these drivers often do not act alone. For instance, conflicts are often accompanied by economic downturns, which affect livelihoods and the ability of people to earn resources, leading to increasing poverty levels and higher prevalence of food insecurity.
Unfortunately, the main reasons for high levels of food insecurity have not improved this year. People in the Horn of Africa are facing a fifth consecutive(连续的)failed rain season in parts of Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia, which will limit their production, and is likely to push many people deeper into food insecurity.
Moreover, there is uncertainty about the weather. And climatic shock affecting any major producer or exporter will introduce additional uncertainty into production and consequently prices, which in turn impact the ability to purchase food, particularly of the most vulnerable(脆弱的)people.
28. How does the author lead in the topic
A. By making a comparison. B. By sharing personal experience.
C. By giving opinions with evidence. D. By listing facts and accurate figures.

B. It's certain that the global food crisis will get worse.
C. We need to work together to deal with the global food crisis.
D. There will be another new peak of hunger numbers in three years.
30. What does the underlined word in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Characters. B. Operators. C. Factors. D. Activities.
31. What is the best title for the passage
A. The Issue of Food Safety
B. The Unprecedented Food Crisis
C. Conflicts Causing Food Shortage
D. Efforts Put into the Study of Food Insecurity

Before uploading a photo of ourselves to social media, chances are that we'll use an app to smooth our skin, make our eyes look bigger, and lips fuller. With a couple of taps on our mobile phone, we can get a quick fix and present the"best"version of ourselves to the world. However, the problem is, when we simply edit our imperfections away, we're also changing the way we look at ourselves.
Last month, researchers published the article Selfies-Living in the Era of Filtered(过滤的)Photographs. The article an alysed photo editing apps' bad influences on people's self-respect and their possibility to cause appearance anxieties. The researchers also warned that such apps make it difficult to tell the difference between reality and fantasy. "These apps allow one to change his or her appearance in minutes and follow an unrealistic standard of beauty," the article reads.
In the past, people may have compared their looks to those of famous people. But for today's young people, beauty standards are most likely set by what they see on social media. "From birth, they are born into an age of social platforms where their feelings of self-worth can be based purely on the number of likes and followers that they have, which is linked to how good they look," British cosmetic doctor Tijion Esho told The Independent. This is why many young people suffer an identity trouble when it comes to appearance.
"Now you've got this daily comparison of your real self to this fake self that you present on social media," Renee Engeln, a professor of psychology, told the HuffPost website. Engeln further pointed out that when people spend too much time making such comparisons, they may become "beauty sick" and find it difficult to accept what they actually look like. "Because between you and the world is a mirror. It's a mirror that travels with you everywhere. You can't seem to put it down," she told The Washington Post. So when we look in a real mirror, we shouldn't think to ourselves, "Do I look as good as myself in the filtered photos " Instead, we should think, "I feel good; I have my health."
32. Before uploading a photo to social media, we will probably .
A. have an operating to make our eyes look bigger
B. use some cream to smooth our skin
C. use an app to fix our photo
D. edit our perfections away
33. What can we learn from Paragraph 2
A. In many ways, photo editing apps are beneficial to people.
B. Photo editing apps are likely to cause people's anxieties about their appearance.
C. Photo editing apps can make people more beautiful.
D. Photo editing apps help people judge realistic beauty.
34. When it comes to appearance, why do many young people suffer an identity trouble
A. Because they compare their looks to those of famous people.
B. Because beauty standards are set by social media.
C. Because their feelings of self-worth depend on their own likes and dislikes.
D. Because their feelings of self-worth depend on their appearance.
35. According to Engeln, what should we do
A. We should feel good about what we actually look like.
B. We should spend more time making comparison of our real self to fake self.
C. We should take a mirror with us everywhere.
D. We should try to look as good as ourselves in the filtered photos.

Yoga has a well-deserved reputation for helping improve balance and flexibility and for inducing calm and relaxation. But as for weight loss, many people assume other types of exercise will benefit more. While you might not burn as many calories by practicing yoga as you would by running or doing some other high-intensity activities, yoga can still raise your heart rate and help build muscle. 36
● Reduce stress and reduce pounds. Yoga helps deal with stress. 37 Yoga has an impact on the body's stress response and reduces the production of chemicals linked to weight gain, such as cortisol(皮质醇), a stress hormone.
● Move well and eat well. 38 Participants involved in yoga practice realize that they tend to notice not only the amount of food they eat, but also what type of foods they eat and the impact of eating those foods. They become aware of the effect of certain foods on their bodies during their yoga practice.
● 39 Doing yoga long term not only can help people lose weight but also can strengthen cognitive skills to help keep it off. A multiyear study examines the possibility of yoga maintaining weight loss. Its findings suggest that yoga may help to improve long-term weight loss outcomes via improvements in distress tolerance, self-compassion and a more positive mood.
Yoga is a very reasonable form of exercise, but you have to choose the right type. A 2021 study found no difference in weight loss totals for participants practicing a gentle, restorative yoga versus a more vigorous type of yoga. 40 Everybody can benefit from a yoga practice.
A. Make weight loss last.
B. Learn about cognitive skills.
C. Studies show that high levels of cortisol can lead to an increase in fat.

A Hearty Welcome
Chase counted his new year gifts one more time as he put a robot-shaped eraser into each envelope. "Twenty, twenty-one, twenty-two."
"Do you have one for everyone in your class " Mom asked.
"Yep!” Chase said. "I'm ready for the party tomorrow!”
When Chase got to school the next day, he saw a new girl in his classroom. She stood near Ms. Robins and looked around shyly.
"This is Eva, "said Ms. Robins. "Will someone volunteer to show her around today " Chase raised his hand since he liked showing the new kids around and helping them feel welcome.
"Thanks, Chase," Ms. Robins said. "Now let's get down to our work."
That's when Chase realized he didn't have a new year gift for Eva. No one else would have one either. Chase pictured his classmates' desks covered with gifts while Eva's desk was empty. He felt sad about that.
At a break, he was careful not to mention the party as he showed Eva around the playground. At lunchtime, he walked Eva to the lunchroom, still worried about what would happen at the party. Eva had brought a packed lunch, so Chase showed her where she was supposed to sit and introduced her to some of the kids at her table.
While eating, Chase suddenly remembered that kids often included candy hearts with the new year gifts they exchanged. This won't be a New Year's Day for Eva with no gifts. But as he sat down at his table, an idea flooded into his head. He whispered it to the kids around him. Soon everyone at the table was nodding and whispering.
When they were back in the classroom after lunch, Chase told Ms. Robins about their plan. Ms. Robins smiled. "That's very thoughtful," she said. "Let's go for it."
It was math time, so Chase invited Eva to study with him. He made sure Eva sat with her back to the room so she wouldn't notice.
