(2022 秋 · 陕西西安 · 高一高新一中校考阶段练习)“Your password has expired,” a message said on my screen, with instructions for changing ing up with a new code doesn’t seem like a big deal, unless you work at my company, where we have to change it monthly, using at least one uppercase character, one lowercase character, one symbol, and one number. Oh, the whole password can’t be fewer than eight characters. And I can’t use
any of the same passwords I’ve used in the past three months.
Suddenly I was very angry. What didn’t make it any better was that I was deeply depressed after my recent divorce. Disbelief about what she had done to me was all I thought
about. Every day.
I remembered a tip I’d heard from my former boss. He’d said: “I’m going to use a password to change my life.” I couldn’t focus on getting things done in my current mood.
There were clear signs of what I needed to do to get control of my life again.
My password became the sign. My password reminded me that I shouldn’t let myself be
a victim of my recent breakup and that I was strong enough to do something about it.
I made my password Forgive@h3r. I had to type this several times a day. The simple action changed the way I looked at my ex-wife. That constant reminder led me to accept the way things had happened and find a new way of dealing with my depression. As the month wore on, I felt a slow healing begin to happen. By the time my server asked me to reset my
password the following month, I felt free.
One month later, my dear Exchange server asked me yet again to reset my password. I thought about the next thing that I had to get done. My password became Quit@smoking4ever. I quit smoking overnight. This password was a painful one to type during that month, but doing it helped me to yell at myself in my mind as I typed that statement. It motivated me to follow my monthly goal. One month later, my password
became Save4trip@thailand. Guess where I went three months later: Thailand.
Seeing how these reminders helped to achieve my goals kept me motivated and excited. While it’s something difficult to come up with your next goal, keeping at it brings great
results.
4 .What does the word “expired” underlined in the 1st paragraph refer to
A .been renewed B .changed C .been mistaken D .become due
5 .Which of the following passwords meets the author’s company’srequirements
A .buy@1ticket B .See@h3r C .Course4$Saving D .Dream4future
6 .What can be inferred about the author according to the text
A .He finally recovered well from his divorce.
B .He started smoking to heal his broken heart.
C .He saved enough money to have 4 trips in Thailand.
D .He was always angry about his company’s requirements for passwords.
7 .What would be the best title of the text
A.Never to be a victim of others’ faults B.To motivate yourself by setting your goals
C.How to come up with a new password D.A new way of dealing with my depression

A warm drink of milk before bed has long been the best choice for those wanting a good night’s sleep. But now a study has found it
really does help people nod off—if it is milked from a cow at night.
Researchers have discovered that “night milk” contains more melatonin( 褪 黑激 素),
which has been proven to help people feel sleepy and reduce anxiety.
The study, by researchers from Seoul, South Korea, involved mice being fed with dried
milk powder made from cows milked both during the day and at night.
Those given night milk, which contained 10 times the amount of melatonin, were less
active and less anxious than those fed with the milk collected during daytime, according to
the study published in The Journal of Medicinal Food.
Night milk quickened the start of sleep and caused the mice to sleep longer.
While the effect of cows milk harvested at different time has not been tested on humans up to now, taking melatonin drugs has been suggested to those who are struggling to fall
asleep at night.
Previous studies have also indicated that milk can be excellent for helping sleep because
of the calcium content, which helps people to relax.
Milk is also sugar-free and additive-free with nutritionists recommending skimmed milk as the best choice before bed as it is the least fattening. The more fat you take in before
bedtime, the greater burden you will put on your body at night.
8 .According to the text, the mice fed with daytime milk .
A .started sleep more easily
B .were more anxious
C .were less active
D .woke up later
9 .Which of the following is true of melatonin according to the text
A .It’s been tested on mice for ten times.
B .It can make people more energetic.
C .It exists in milk in great amount.
D .It’s used in sleeping drugs.
10 .What can be a suitable title for the text
A .Night Milk and Sleep
B .Fat, Sugar and Health
C .An Experiment on Mice
D .Milk Drinking and Health
11 .How does the author support the theme of the text
A .By giving examples.
B .By stating arguments.
C .By explaining statistical data.
D .By providing research results.

(2022 秋 · 陕西西安 · 高一高新一中校考阶段练习)On January 1st, 2018, “gaming disorder” — in which games are played uncontrollably, despite causing harm — gained recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO). Last year, China, the world’s biggest gaming market, announced new rules limiting children to just a single hour of play a
day. Clinics are appearing around the world, promising to cure patients of their habit.
Are games really addictive Psychologists have different opinions. The case for the defence is that this is just another moral panic. Similar warnings have been given about television, rock’ n’ roll, jazz, comic books, and even novels. As the newest form of mass media, gaming is merely enduring ( 忍 受 ) its own time before it finally stops being
controversial.
However, some argue that unlike rock bands or novelists, games developers have both the motive and the means to engineer their products to make them addictive. For one thing, the business-model has changed. In the old days games were bought once and for all. But these days, games are free and money is earned from purchases of in-game goods, which ties playtime directly to developers’ income. For another, games makers combine psychological theory and data, which helps them maximize the playtime. Smartphones and modern video game machines use their permanent Internet connections to send gameplay data back to
developers. That allows products to be constantly adjusted to increase spending on games.
The gaming industry should realize that, in the real world, it has a problem, and that problem is growing. Now that gaming addiction comes with an official WHO recognition, diagnoses (诊断) become more common. Clinics are already reporting booming business, as lockdowns have given gamers more time to spend with their hobby. And being put together in
the public mind, fairly or not, with gambling will not do the industry any favours.
12 .What is the function of Paragraph 1
A .To arouse the readers’ interest about the topic.
B .To inform the readers of the harmful effects of games.
C .To discuss whether it is necessary to panic about games.
D .To show growing public concern about the problem of games.
13 .Why is television, together with other media forms, mentioned in Paragraph 2
A .To prove that the panic over games will fade away.
B .To show that they are as highly addictive as games.
C .To compare the differences among these media forms.
D .To argue that these media forms are not harmful at all.
14 .How do games developers make games addictive
A .They don’t charge players for in-game goods.
B .They adjust products based on received data.
C .They reward top players with more playtime.
D .They keep players’ video game machines updated.
15 .In the last paragraph, the author aims to .
A .offer a suggestion B .make a prediction
C .give a warning D .put forward a solution

How To Make Your Wardrobe (衣柜)Eco-Friendly
Maybe you’ve started to buy recyclable products and carry reusable grocery bags.
16 Even when you’re doing all these, there may be something you’re completely ignoring — your wardrobe. You don’t necessarily have to replace your entire wardrobe with items from eco-friendly labels. Instead, you could make a few adjustments here and there to
fill your closet with eco-friendly lifestyle. Take a look at the tips below:
17 Research shows that 60 to 80 percent of clothes’ environmental impact comes from how often it is washed. You can wear your clothes two to three times before washing
them. Then use cold water to save energy.
Be a big picture shopper. Before you buy something, consider: Will I still want to wear
this a year from now 18
Choose clothes with right materials. When you’re buying new clothes, make sure you go for materials that have a low impact on the environment. 19 Even when you’ re buying
other clothes, try to look for recycled ones.
Cut down on waste by exchanging clothes with friends. You could also donate your old
clothes to local clothing recycling bins. If you have clothes that you love but have gone out of
style, try to create something new out of them. 20 Otherwise, you could also create
DIY clothes out of them.
As you can see, there are plenty of options for you to adopt an eco-friendly wardrobe. A minor improvement could work wonders, so try not to throw away anything. The goal is to
reduce waste, not create more.
A .Wash your clothes less often.
B .If not, leave it for someone who will.
C .Go for bamboo, silk, wool and organic cotton.
D .Buy high-quality clothes that will last one year.
E .You will have no trouble finding the right clothes.
F .For instance, you could turn loose jeans into skinny jeans.
G .You could even be growing organic vegetables for green living.

Last night, I watched a performance of Butterfly Lovers ( 梁 祝 ), a beautiful violin concerto (协奏曲) 36 (compose) by He Zhanhao and Chen Gang. It is a piece 37
deserves to be heard.
The music took 38 (I) through the twists and turns of a classic story about a
young couple torn apart by their families. When the two 39 (lover), Liang Shanbo and
Zhu Yingtai, first meet, the music is light and pleasant, as if 40 (whisper) to the

butterflies and fly away to be together forever. It is an 42 (amaze) journey!
Butterfly Lovers is played on Western instruments (乐器) such 43 the violin, but more 44 (significant), much of the music has its roots in Chinese Yue Opera. This

One never knows what one is going to find when one steps out into the world. Even
something as simple as a walk through your neighborhood can result in either mild
excitement or unusual adventure if the cards are right.
On a sunny afternoon, Mike journeyed into the construction site near his home. Suddenly, he heard something coming from around the side of a nearby building. It sounded like the whining( 悲 嚎声)cries of an animal. He curiously turned the corner, only to see a small dog standing on its back legs and wagging its tail pitifully. He then noticed that the poor thing seemed to be stuck at the waist between a small concrete wall and an even smaller
broken wooden fence.
The poor animal's difficult situation was pretty obvious and Mike knew that if he did nothing and left the dog there, it might not survive. He had no idea how long the animal had been there up until that point. It might not have eaten or drunk anything in days. Determined to help, he looked around to find a stick, proceeded to climb up onto the cement slab and pointed his stick back at the clog. He was trying to pry(撬动)above the animal by insert the stick between the cement wall and the smaller, broken wall, but the terrified animal obviously didn't know his intention and attempted to bite at the tool and barked at him fearfully. The
fright in its eyes said everything.
After at least a minute or so of trying to free the dog, Mike found his plan much more difficult in practice than it had stayed inside his own head. The hot sun was beating down. Drops of sweat running down his face, Mike sat clown on the ground and scratched his head with annoyance, thinking about what in the world his next move was going to be. Beside him,
the dog curled up into a ball, whining miserably.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
Paragraph 1:
Then Mike went around to the other side of the wall and grabbed hold of the stick.
Paragraph 2:
Eventually, with the few well-positioned pieces of wood, Mike managed to insert his stick
in the right way.

very special vocal talent.(西贡小姐的歌曲与迪斯尼最受欢迎的《美女与野兽》的歌曲完美地 融合在一起,再加上一些流行的标准, 与一位非常特殊的声乐天才一起度过一个美好的夜晚)”
可知, Ria Jones 将在 Let’s Face the Music. 故选 A。
根据文章 The Adventure of Malic 部分的“The show is told using Chinese
shadow puppets (皮影), with a live narrator-musician who gives life to the show in English.(该剧 使用中国皮影戏来讲述故事, 皮影戏处理得很好, 还有一位现场的叙述者兼音乐家, 他的英 语为该剧注入了活力)”可推断出, The Adventure of Malic 是通过一种中国的传统艺术形式
4 .D 5 .C 6 .A 7 .B
根据画线词后文“a message said on my screen, with instructions for changing it(我的屏幕上出现了一条信息, 说明该更改了)”可知, 信息提示作者该修改密码了, 说明作
Coming up with a new code doesn’t seem like a big deal, unless
you work at my company, where we have to change it monthly, using at least one uppercase
character, one lowercase character, one symbol, and one number. Oh, the whole password can’t be
fewer than eight characters. And I can’t use any of the same passwords I’ve used in the past three months.(想出一个新密码似乎不是什么大事,除非你在我的公司工作,在那里我们必须每月 更换它, 使用至少一个大写字母, 一个小写字母, 一个符号和一个数字。

故选 A。
根据最后一段“Seeing how these reminders helped to achieve my goals kept me motivated and excited. While it’s something difficult to come up with your next goal, keeping at it brings great results.(看到这些提醒是如何帮助我实现目标的,让我充满动力和兴奋。虽然提 出下一个目标很困难, 但坚持下去会带来很棒的结果)”结合本文主要讲述了作者通过每月的 新密码提醒自己完成设定的近期目标, 以此激励自己砥砺前行不断奋斗, 迎接更美好的人生。
可知, B 选项“通过设定目标来激励自己”最符合文章标题。故选 B。
8 .B 9 .D 10 .A 11 .D
Those given night milk, which contained 10 times the amount of
melatonin, were less active and less anxious than those fed with the milk collected during
daytime.”
根据第六段中的“taking melatonin drugs has been suggested to those who are struggling to fall asleep at night.”
由文章第一段中的“But now a study has found it really does help people nod off—if it is milked from a cow at night.”但现在一项研究发现,如果牛奶是在晚上从奶牛身上 挤奶的,它确实能帮助人们打盹;最后一段“nutritionists recommending skimmed milk as the best choice before bed as it is the least fattening.”
故选 A 项。
根据“But now a study has found …” ,“Researchers have discovered that …”, “The study,by researchers from…” 以及“Previous studies have also indicated…”
因此,考生直接抓住第一段中的“But now a study has found it really does help people nod
off—if it is milked from a cow at night.”
12 .D 13 .A 14 .B 15 .C

uncontrollably, despite causing harm — gained recognition from the World ealth Organization
(WHO). (2018 年 1 月 1 日,世界卫生组织认证了“游戏障碍”——它指的是人们不受控制地玩 游戏, 尽管会造成伤害)”和“Clinics are appearing around the world, promising to cure patients of their habit.
由第二段“The case for the defence is that this is just another moral panic. Similar warnings have been given about television, rock’ n’ roll, jazz, comic books, and even novels. (辩 方认为这仅仅是另一种道德恐慌, 电视、摇滚乐、爵士乐、漫画书甚至小说也发出了类似的
警告)”可知,辩方认为游戏上瘾和电视、摇滚乐等其它都只是道德恐慌。结合段尾“As the
newest form of mass media, gaming is merely enduring (忍受) its own time before it finally stops being controversial.
故选 A。
Smartphones and modern video game machines use their permanent
Internet connections to send gameplay data back to developers. That allows products to be
constantly adjusted to increase spending on games.
根据最后一段“The gaming industry should realize that, in the real world, it has a problem, and that problem is growing. (游戏行业应该意识到在现实世界中, 游戏存在一个问 题,而且这个问题还在不断恶化)”And being put together in the public mind, fairly or not, with gambling will not do the industry any favours.

Paragraph 1:
Then Mike went around to the other side of the wall and grabbed hold of the stick. He tried
from a different angle. For a brief moment, he made eye contact with the dog in an attempt to
assure the dog that he was there to save him. Seeming to sense his kindness, the dog became
calmer and less scared. However, after several unsuccessful attempts, he sank himself to the
ground, frustrated. Just at the moment, he glanced at some pieces of wood. An idea occurred to
him. He tried wedging the pieces into the gap, pried and pushed. At the same time, he stayed
cautious not to frighten the poor dog.
Paragraph 2:
Eventually, with the few well-positioned pieces of wood, Mike managed to insert his stick in the
right way. A little unsteadily, the animal got to its feet and pulled itself out fully. “Yes !” The
rescuer exclaimed in excitement, unable to deal with blood dropping off his hand—he was injured while saving the dog. Behind him, the dog wagged its tail furiously and sniffed at his feet, happy
to be free. Mike knelt down and stroked the dog, saying “Go home, boy!” Seeing the dog
disappear in the distance, Mike continued his way, bathed in the warm sunshine.
