Language Points
1. They think I have a real gift for painting.
他们认为我对画画真的有天赋。
have a gift for … 对……有天赋
e.g. You have a gift for language learning.
你在语言学习方面有天赋。
e.g. Don't put your bag here. Please take it away.
不要把你的包放在这里,请把它拿走。
take away意为“拿走,拿开”,为“动词+副词”结构,宾语若是名词,则放于away前后都可,宾语若是代词,则放于take与away 之间。
2. As I took the brush away, I dropped some paint onto the paper.
当我拿开刷子时,我把一些颜料掉在了纸上。
e.g. The children had snowball fights, screaming and laughing.孩子们打雪仗,尖叫着,大笑着。
I walked to the bedroom, following my mother.

looking at the mark 是现在分词短语作状语。现在分词(短语)可在句中作状语,表示时间、原因或方式等,现在分词(短语)与主语是主动的关系。

e.g. Our teachers often encourage us to ask questions in class.
我们老师鼓励我们在课上问问题。
encourage sb. to do sth.意为“鼓励某人做某事”
encourage sb. not to do sth.意为“鼓励某人不要做某事”。
4. She encouraged me to keep trying and make more wonderful pictures. 她鼓励我继续尝试并创作出更多精彩的画。
e.g. She does speak English very well.
她英语确实说的非常好。
句中的did表示强调。助动词do可以用于肯定句的动词前以加强语气,其后动词用原形。
5. I did make some wonderful pictures later.

Read Sandy's story about how she became interested in painting.
All my teachers and classmates praised my designs for the art festival. They think I have a real gift for painting. However, I once did not like art lessons because I could not draw very well.
One day, I was playing with some paint as usual in Ms Luo's art lesson. I mixed the paint with water. As I took the brush away, I dropped some paint onto the paper. Looking at the mark, I decided to blow it. The
paint began to run, so I blew harder. The paint ran in all directions and made a very interesting picture! I forgot that I was in class until Ms Luo came by my desk. “That's a very good picture, Sandy.” said Ms Luo. She encouraged me to keep trying and make more wonderful pictures.
I did make some wonderful pictures later. Since then, I have been crazy about crayons and paints. I enjoy myself in the world of colours every time I paint.
