an upward spiral of growth
You need to subordinate what you think you want now to what you want later.
The author believes that habits can be broken.
Both of them take a tremendous gravity pull or effort.
It requires knowledge, skill, and desire.
1. Summarize the definition of a habit with the help of the chart.
A habit can be defined as the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire.
Knowledge is the theoretical paradigm, the what to do and the why. Skill is the how to do. And desire is the motivation, the want to do. In order to make something a habit in our lives, we have to have all three.
2. How does the author illustrate the connection between knowledge, skill and desire
From paragraph 8 to paragraph 10, the author uses his own experience as an example, which makes the abstract definition more accessible.
3. Why does the author use italicized / t l sa zd/ 斜体 words in paragraphs 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12
They aim to emphasize the key points made by the author to draw the reader’s attention and help them understand the author’s opinions better.
The being / seeing change is an upward process — being changes seeing, which in turn changes being, and so forth, as we move in an upward spiral of growth.
4. Analyze the sentence structure and get a better understanding of the meaning:
这个自我/看法的改变是一个向上的过程——在我们螺旋上升式成长的过程中,提升自我会改变我们对外界的看法,继而又会改变自我,并循环往复。
