I still remember how excited I was when receiving a film camera as a gift. On receiving it, I jumped on my bike, headed to Wimbledon Common and took photos, just for me: photos of trees and wildlife. I was out all day. On my way home I spotted a tree lit up by street lighting and tried to capture its beauty. Rushing home, I popped the spent film(胶片) in a special little envelope and sent it off to a photography store, desperate to see how it came out. I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby.
As I grew into adulthood, that simple, deep happiness gradually faded away. One weekend when I was busy answering the work calls, my eyes caught a box in the corner of the room. I suddenly felt a sense of sadness. The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. I thought I needed a change.
I took out the camera and dusted (擦灰) it down. It was a great joy that it still worked. I bought new film and took the camera everywhere I went. Now it is always on hand to accompany me on journeys, to allow me time to myself. Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me.
The wall of my room now holds all my camera equipment on display, along with photos I’ve taken. To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.
24.What did the author think of taking photos as a young boy
A.Tiring. B.Enjoyable. C.Practical. D.Challenging.
25.Why did the author stop taking photos according to paragraph2
A.He was busy answering the work calls.
B.He felt a sudden sorrow from out of nowhere.
C.He was under increasing pressure these years.

26.What did the author get from picking up his hobby
A.Different styles of films. B.Exciting trip in the world.
C.Higher level of observation. D.More pleasure in daily life.
27.What is the best title for the text

C.Regaining Pleasure Through Photography D.Looking back on the Childhood Memories

The old saying “Use it or lose it” doesn’t appear to be true when it comes to someone’s ability to preserve and use a foreign language, a new study has revealed.
The research team tasked almost 500 British people who had taken French GCSE or A-level between the 1970s and 2020 with completing a French vocabulary and grammar test. They included a survey of whether participants had used their French knowledge over the years since their exams, and excluded(排除) anyone who had studied a language later on in life.
They found that participants who had taken their exam 50 years ago and not used French since performed at the same level as recent school leavers, and as well as those who used French occasionally.
Lead researcher Monika Schmid said: “The knowledge of language is astonishingly stable over long periods of time, compared to other subjects such as maths, history or science. This is likely because of the way language is stored in memory. Vocabulary is memorized in the same way that facts, dates and names are, while this memory may become weaker over time, and grammar is learned in a similar way to riding a bike, a kind of muscle memory, which is much more stable. Vocabulary knowledge on the other hand, exists in a highly connected network, which means that we need only be reminded of a word that sounds similar to a foreign language word for our brain to recall it.”
“Many people are put off revisiting languages they once learnt as they fear they will be forced to relive(重温) some of the more ‘boring’ element s of the courses, such as grammar, but our work suggests that this would not be necessary. We hope that it might encourage more people to pick foreign languages back up if they know it would only take a short amount of time in refresher lessons to bounce back to their original level,” Schmid added.
28.What did the researchers ask the participants to do
A.Take a French exam. B.Conduct a survey in French.
C.Learn French from recent school leavers. D.Talk about their French GCSE experience.
29.What can help us recall a foreign word
A.A fact related to it. B.Our muscle memory.
C.The grammar of the language. D.A similar-sounding word.
30.What can we infer from Schmid’s words in the last paragraph
A.Years of use promises fluency in a foreign language.
B.One is able to quickly and easily re learn a language.
C.The boring elements of a language course are important.
D.Refresher lessons are necessary in picking foreign languages back up.
31.Which of the following statements may the author agree with
A.Language tests truly matters at school.
B.If you don’t use a language, you’ll lose it.
C.Knowledge of foreign languages can last a lifetime.
D.Grammar is the most important part in language learning.

Gardeners who use pesticides(杀虫剂)are contributing to a smaller number of British songbirds, a study suggests. Scientists have urged people not to spray their gardens with poisons in order to halt bird decrease and adopt wildlife-friendly practices instead. The results of the University of Sussex study, which researchers call the first of its kind, were published in the journal Science of the Total Environment.
The experiment, which surveyed 615 gardens in Britain, found 25% fewer house sparrows when glyphosate(草甘膦)was used regularly. This is an ingredient found in commonly used herbicide(除草剂)brands such as Roundup or Gallup. Slug pellets(鼻涕虫杀虫剂)also seemed to have an effect on bird sightings; in gardens where Slug pellets were used, house sparrow numbers were down by almost 40%.
Prof. Dave Goulson, a scientist at the University of Sussex, said, “The UK has 22 million gardens, which could be a fantastic home for wildlife, but not if they are overly tidy and sprayed with poisons. We just don’t need pesticides in our gardens. Many towns around the world are now pesticide free. We should simply stop the use of these poisons in urban areas, following the example of France.” The Royal Horticultural Society, the UK’s leading gardening charity, said the use of pesticides and herbicides should be avoided if possible and they should only be used, if ever, in small and targeted applications.
The research also found that those who adopted wildlife-friendly practices such as planting native bushes and flowers, or digging a wildlife pond, saw more birds than those who did not. Cannelle Tassin de Montaigu, a PhD researcher within the school of life sciences and an author of the study, said, “It’s encouraging to find that simple measures, such as planting native bushes and trees and creating a pond, together with avoiding the use of pesticides, really make a measurable difference to the number of birds you will see in your garden.”
32.What does the underlined word “halt” in paragraph 1 most probably mean
A.show. B.record. C.stop. D.mark.
33.Why are the figures mentioned in paragraph 2
A.To compare the effects of two kinds of pesticides.
B.To help gardeners choose the proper pesticides.
C.To convince readers of the importance of house sparrows.
D.To show the huge influence of pesticides on birds.
34.What can be inferred from Prof. Dave Goulson’s words
A.Pesticides use should be avoided throughout the UK.
B.The gardens in the UK are so tidy that pesticides are not needed.
C.Some countries like France have made urban areas pesticide free.
D.The extremely tidy gardens are ideal places for wildlife in the UK.
35.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.Effective ways to increase the number of birds.
B.Alternative methods to keep gardens tidy.
C.Other researchers’ interest in the experiment.
D.Gardeners’ attitudes towards the experiment.

A Great Monday
Monday started out well. I woke up on time, ate breakfast and then left my house. Ten minutes later, I was on the school bus with my friends. At one stop, Fat Ryan got on hurriedly. He tripped(绊倒)over someone’s foot accidentally and THUMP! He fell flat onto the floor.
Every one of us on the bus laughed crazily. Ryan struggled to his feet, dusted off his jacket and made his way to an empty seat. He tried to laugh with us, but his face was burning with embarrassment. The rest of the morning flew by. It wasn’t long before we heard the lunch bell. I met my friends from the cheerleading team in the dining hall. Then I couldn’t help but notice Ryan a few tables away, sitting all alone. He caught me looking. I smiled at him quickly and looked away.
When we had finished eating, we headed out to practice a cheer we would do at that night’s football game. We practiced it again and again. One last time, I raised my leg for one last toe touch. RIIPPP! I felt my jeans split(裂开) down the middle of my backside(臀部).
I froze. I had no idea what to do but stand still. Then I heard people burst out laughing and I saw them pointing at my torn jeans. Trying to cover myself with my hands, I tried to laugh too, but I felt tears begin to well up in my eyes.

Then I saw Ryan running towards me. Suddenly the scene struck me where he fell flat and I laughed at him crazily. I thought he would join in with those laughing at me. I lowered my head, my face burning with embarrassment. However, Ryan didn’t laugh. Instead, he approached me from behind, quickly took off his jacket and offered it to me, signaling to me to cover my torn jeans. Struggling against my tears, I did want to express my gratitude to him but courage failed me. I left the courtyard in total silence.
That night, after the cheer at the football game, I found Ryan and returned his jacket. Gathering my courage, I sincerely apologized to him for my misconduc t on the bus, and thanked him for helping me out of an equally embarrassing situation. Ryan, with a broad smile, patted me on the shoulder and told me to forget about it, joking he fell like that a lot. I admired his honesty and sense of humor, and realized that he was someone I could be great friends with. Honestly, Monday was a great day indeed!
A
根据文章中的“Not included: Food is not included on this tour except for breakfasts.”(不包含项目:本次旅行不包含除了早餐之外的食物。) 故选A。
根据文章中“The boat trip on the glacier lagoon is an optional extra(available in the summer months). The ticket sells out very fast, so we recommend you book it when you arrange your tour.”(冰川泻湖上的游船是可选择的额外项目,仅在夏季提供。
根据“Our 3-day tour along the South Coast has it all! Stunning landscapes, the Golden Circle, ice caves, the Jokulsarlon Iceberg Lagoon and Northern Lights watching.”(我们沿着南部海岸进行的为期3天的旅行应有尽有!
根据本段最后一句话“I too k many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby.(那时我拍了很多照片,当你冲洗你的胶卷时,你会得到彩色照片,这一事实让我很高兴,它冻结了那些珍贵的时刻,温柔地鼓励了我的爱好。)”
根据第二段中的“The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner.(这些年来不断增长的压力把相机从我的枕头旁推到了角落里的盒子里。)”
根据文章第四段中的“To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.(对我来说,这个房间代表了我是如何找到幸福的:通过重新连接我搁置的年轻的自己,通过在我的生活中为快乐留出空间,通过创造一个允许快乐机会的环境。)”
根据第二段“The research team tasked almost 500 British people who had taken French GCSE or A-level between the 1970s and 2020 with completing a French vocabulary and grammar test.(研究小组要求近500名在20世纪70年代至2020年间参加过法语GCSE或A-level考试的英国人完成法语词汇和语法测试)”可知研究小组要求参与者完成词汇和语法测试。故选A。
根据第四段 Monika Schmid 所说的“Vocabulary knowledge on the other hand, exists in a highly connected network, which means that we need only be reminded of a word that sounds similar to a foreign language word for our brain to recall it.(另一方面,词汇知识存在于一个高度连接的网络中,这意味着我们只需要被提醒一个听起来与外语单词相似的单词,我们的大脑就能记住它)”可知一个发音相似的单词能够帮助我们记忆外语单词。故选D。
根据最后一段Schmid所说的“We hope that it might encourage more people to pick foreign languages back up if they know it would only take a short amount of time in refresher lessons to bounce back to their original level.(我们希望这能鼓励更多的人重新学习外语,如果他们知道只需要很短的复习时间就能恢复到原来的水平)”可知,Schmid认为一个人可以通过短时间复习就能恢复原来的外语水平。故选B。
根据第一段的研究结果“The old saying “Use it or lose it” doesn’t appear to be true when it comes to someone’s ability to preserve and use a foreign language, a new study has revealed.(一项新研究显示,当涉及到一个人保存和使用外语的能力时,“用进废退”这句老话似乎并不正确)”可知新研究并不认同语言学习中的“用进废退”理论,结合研究员Monika Schmid 所说的“The knowledge of language is astonishingly stable over long periods of time, compared to other subjects such as maths, history or science.(与数学、历史或科学等其他学科相比,语言知识在很长一段时间内的稳定性令人惊讶)”,可知该研究认为语言学习记忆具有长期的稳定性,所以B选项“Knowledge of foreign languages can last a lifetime(外语知识有可能受用一生)”。故选C。D
根据第一段中的“Gardeners who use pesticides are contributing to the decline of British songbirds, a study suggests. Scientists have urged people to stop“spraying their gardens with poisons”(一项研究表明,使用杀虫剂的园丁正在导致英国鸣禽数量的减少。
根据第三段中Dave Goulson教授所说的话“We just don’t need pesticides in our gardens. Many towns around the world are now pesticide free. We should simply ban the use of these poisons in urban areas, following the example of Flance.(我们的花园不需要杀虫剂。
故选A项。

36.根据小标题“Be the one to reach out before the other.(成为先于另一个伸出友谊至之手的人。)”和下文“Let it be you this time.(这次就交给你吧。)”可知,这一段的建议是做一个先去和对方接触,交朋友的人,横线处要和这个建议相关,F选项“If you aren’t talking to each other, someone will have to make the first move.(如果您不互相交谈,则必须有人迈出第一步。)”和后文let it be you 相承接,符合语境。故选G。
38.由小标题“Talk about the problem honestly and openly.(开诚布公地谈论问题。)”和上文“Let them talk for as long as they need to. (让他们聊多久就聊多久。真正倾听,不要打断他们。)”可知,C选项Really listen and don’t interrupt them 符合,故选C。
39.由小标题“Apologize to them and accept their apology.(向他们道歉并接受他们的道歉。)”和上文“If you did wrong them in some way, apologize to them sincerely.(如果您在某些方面做错了,请真诚地向他们道歉。)”
和上文“It’s important that you don’t say or do anything hurtful during this conversation.(在这次谈话中不要说或做任何伤害性的事情,这一点很重要)”以及下文“so do your best to keep things peaceful.(所以尽你所能保持和平。)”
