Around the world, people are coming up with new ways to make their cities better. They want to make cities safer and healthier for us to live in during the COVID-19 pandemic（大流行）. Let’s take a look at some of their wonderful ideas.
Hand-washing basins
In Rwanda’s capital city Kigali, people have set up a lot of hand-washing basins (洗手池) at bus stops, restaurants, banks, and shops. If you want to get on a bus, for example, you must wash your hands first.
If everyone washed their hands often we would see a reduction in all types of infection (感染).
Air filtration
Viruses (病毒) can move through the air. If we can kill viruses in the air, we’ll get sick less often.
In October, the US state of Indiana used a new system to fight COVID-19. The system uses ultraviolet light filters (紫外线光过滤器) to kill viruses and puts out only clean air. People put the systems in the ceiling grids (天花板网格) of office buildings, schools, and hospitals.
“15-minute cities”
Earlier this year, Paris in France introduced the idea of “15-minute cities”. People should be able to meet most of their basic needs within a 15-minute walk. This plan will make buses, subways and many other places less crowded (拥挤的). It will help prevent the spread of disease.
