My sister Alice and I have been trying to get people to stop dropping cigarette butts (烟头) for seven years. One day, we were walking in our hometown and saw hundreds of cigarette butts on the ground. They made the town look so ugly that we decided to start a group to make people stop dropping butts. We called it “No Butts About It”.
At first, we drew pictures with “The Earth is not your ashtray (烟灰缸)” written on them. We put the pictures around our boomtown--in parks, by beaches, and along roads. We wanted to make people understand that dropping butts hurts the environment. Most smokers don’t think that dropping butts hurts the Earth. But it does, and all rubbish does!
Later, we wrote to companies and asked them for money to help us. We used the money to buy ashtrays to give to smokers. We wanted smokers to carry the ashtrays with them so they didn’t have to drop butts.
At the moment, we are trying to get cigarette companies to put an ashtray in each pack of cigarettes. Some companies want to do it. Many people have started to join our group since it began. Today there are 45 other “No Butts About It” groups in America
Now there are even groups in England, Australia, and India! Many newspapers have written about my sister and me over the last seven years. And we have won many prizes for what we have done. But we are not interested in prizes. We just want to make the Earth a better an cleaner place for animals, plants and people.
One day, it will be.

A. They made the town smelly. B. They made the town dirty.

A. No companies wanted to support them.
B. There are only 45 “No Butts About It” groups.
C. Alice and I like to be on newspapers and win prizes.
D. They believe the Earth will be better and cleaner.
7. What can be the best tide for the text

B. Cigarette Butts Destroying Countries
C. Buy Yourself An Ashtray

Pilates (普拉提), yoga and the running machine get all the attention when it comes to popular ways to keep fit. There is, however, a more humble exercise that might not be so attractive, but has all the benefits—walking.
Certified fitness professional Jolynn Jaekel explains, "What I love about walking is that anyone can do it at any age and any fitness level. Plus it is good for your heart, your head and your wallet.”
A recent report detailed the health benefits of walking. The report found that walking regularly to fulfill (执行,履行) the 150 minutes of moderate (适度的) physical exercise every week, recommended by the UK's chief medical officer, could save 37, 000 lives each year.
Scientists at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California found that quick walking reduced the risk of heart disease more effectively than running. They observed participants aged between 18 and 80 over a six-year period and found that walking reduced the risk of heart disease by 9.3%, while running reduced it by 4. 5%. And there is even more good news: 30 minutes of quick walking over five days could help you sleep easily, according to research by Oregon State University. The study by the university showed that walking helped participants sleep better and feel more alert during the day.
The sooner you get started, the sooner you'll notice the differences in your mind and body. So, go out for your 30-minute walk in a nearby park or green space.

10. What did scientists at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory find
A. Walking helps people with sleep problems.
B. Walking contributes to curing heart disease.
C. Walking is better than running in some cases.
D. Walking 150 minutes per week can save lives.

Happiness is not a warm phone, according to a new study exploring the link between young life satisfaction and screen time. The study was led by professor of psychology Jean M. Twenge at San Diego State University (SDSU).
To research this link Twenge, along with colleagues Gabrielle Martin at SDSU and W. Keith Campbell at the University of Georgia, dealt with data from the Monitoring the Future (MtF) study, a nationally representative survey of more than a million U.S. 8th-, 10th-, and 12th-graders. The survey asked students questions about how often they spent time on their phones, tablets and computers, as well as questions about their face-to-face social interactions and their overall happiness.
The study found that teens who spent more time in front of screen devices — playing computer games, using social media, texting and video chatting — were less happy than those who invested more time in non-screen activities like sports, reading newspapers and magazines, and face-to-face social interactions.
“The key to digital media use and happiness is limited use,” Twenge said. “Aim to spend no more than two hours a day on digital media, and try to increase the amount of time you spend seeing friends face-to-face and exercising — two activities reliably linked to greater happiness.”
Looking at historical trends from the same age groups since the 1990s, it’s easy to find that the increase of screen devices over time happened at the same time as a general drop-off in reported happiness in U.S. teens. Specifically, young people’s life satisfaction and happiness declined sharply after 2012. That’s the year when the percentage of Americans who owned a smartphone rose above 50 percent. By far the largest change in teens’ lives between 2012 and 2016 was the increase in the amount of time they spent on digital media, and the following decline in in-person social activities and sleep.
12. Which method did Twenge’s team use for the study
A. Analyzing data from a survey. B. Asking students certain questions.
C. Calculating students’ happiness. D. Doing experiments on screen time.
13. How does the author develop the finding of the study in Paragraph 3
A. By making an argument. B. By giving an example.
C. By making a comparison. D. By introducing an idea.
14. What is the purpose of the last paragraph
A. To draw a conclusion from the study.
B. To support the researchers’ finding.
C. To prove social activities important.
D. To offer some advice to the readers.
15. What’s the main idea of the text
A. Quitting phones equals happiness. B. Screen time should be banned.
C. Teens’ lives have changed sharply. D. Screen-addicted teens are unhappier.

It was summer, and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before. He decided to take me on a trip to the Wild West. We took a plane to Albuquerque, a big city in the state of New Mexico. We reached Albuquerque in the late afternoon. Upon Paul, my dad’s friend, picked us up from the airport and drove us up to his farm in Pecos.
His wife Tina cooked us a delicious dinner and we got to know his sons Ryan and Kyle. My dad and I spent the night in the guestroom of the farm house listening to the frogs and water rolling down the river nearby. Very early in the morning, Uncle Paul woke us up to have breakfast. “The day starts at dawn on my farm,” he said. After breakfast, I went to help Aunt Tina feed the chickens, while my dad went with Uncle Paul to take the sheep out to graze (吃草). I was impressed to see my dad and Uncle Paul riding horses. They looked really cool.
In the afternoon, I asked Uncle Paul if I could take a horse ride, and he said yes, as long as my dad went with me. I wasn’t going to take a horse ride by myself anyway. So, my dad and I put on our new cowboy hats, got on our horses, and headed slowly towards the mountains. “Don’t be late for supper,” Uncle Paul cried, “and keep to the track (足迹;踪迹) so that you don’t get lost!” “OK!” my dad cried back. After a while Uncle Paul and his farm house were out of sight. It was so peaceful and quiet and the colors of the brown rocks, the deep green pine (松树) trees, and the late afternoon sun mixed to create a magic scene. It looked like a beautiful woven (编织的) blanket spread out upon the ground just for us.

One day it will be.

Happiness is not a warm phone, according to a new study exploring the link between young life satisfaction and screen time. The study was led by professor of psychology Jean M. Twenge at San Diego State University (SDSU).
To research this link, Twenge, along with colleagues Gabrielle Martin at SDSU and W.
A 13. C 14. B 15. D

空后“Let’s face it. You will feel embarrassed (尴尬的)when talking about something personal, but your parents know you quite well. They were your age once, too! So don’t let a little embarrassment stop you. (我们要勇于面对它。你会感到尴尬当谈论一些私人的事情时,但你的父母很了解你。他们曾经也是你的年龄!所以不要让那一点尴尬阻止你)”强调要去和父母谈论私人话题,不要感觉尴尬,所以E选项“但开始谈论私人话题可能会更加困难”符合题意。空后的代词“it”指代选项的“ talking about personal topics”。
(要诚实)”、“Be brave and start talking. (勇敢点,开始交流)”和“Try not to argue.(尽量不要争吵)”可知小标题是祈使句,所以答案可定位到A和B选项。该段内容“If you have a disagreement, can you consider things from your parents’ points of view If you can, telling your parents you understand their views and feelings helps them be willing to understand yours, too. (如果你有分歧,你能从父母的角度考虑吗?如果可以的话,告诉你的父母你理解他们的观点和感受有助于他们也愿意理解你的观点)”强调要站在父母的角度,学会理解父母,所以B选项“Try to understand them. (尽量去理解他们)”可作为本段标题。故答案为B。
19题详解】
本段的小标题是“Try not to argue.(尽量不要争吵)”,所以该段重点围绕不要争吵这个话题。空前“Using a friendly and respectful tone makes your parents more likely to listen to you and take what you say seriously. (使用友好和尊重的语气会让你的父母更有可能倾听你的意见,并认真对待你所说的话)”强调对父母说话的语气要友好和尊重。F选项“这也使得他们更有可能以同样的方式与你交谈”中的 “in the same way”呼应前文的“Using a friendly and respectful tone”。
空前“If you still can’t talk to your parents, seek other adults’ help. (如果你仍然无法与父母交谈,请寻求其他成年人的帮助)”作者强调如果以上建议无效,可以寻求其他成年人的帮助,G选项“找一个会倾听、理解和关心你的亲戚或老师”中的“Find a relative or a teacher”呼应前文的“seek other adults’ help”。故答案为G。

Making Friends Online

Making friends online
With science and technology developing rapidly, a growing number of people have been making friends online. Admittedly, the Internet makes it convenient for us to befriend people around the world, which can also broaden our horizons. But every coin has two sides. Making friends online has some drawbacks. The friends we have made online may not be just what we think they are. It is most likely that we’ll get cheated by the so-called friends.
In my opinion, we should be careful about making friends online and think carefully before jumping in with both feet.

Paragraph 1
Suddenly a little rabbit jumped out in front of my horse. Dad and I found it was so cute that we decided to run after it. After a while, we were completely lost in the forest. There was nothing left in our sight but the trees. “We may not be able to make it back to the farm house in time for supper.” I thought to myself. After a series of useless attempts to find a way out, we felt hungry and tired.
Paragraph 2
We had no idea where we were and it was getting dark. We got stuck in the forest. And an unexpected shower added to the difficulty of us in finding a way home, for all the tracks we had made disappeared because of the rain. I was almost breaking down when my father said, “Don’t worry, my son. I remember there is a river near the farm house. Find the river and we will be back home.” Finally, we found the river and got back to the house along it. Needless to say, we ate a late dinner.
①由第一段所给首句“Suddenly a little rabbit jumped out in front of my horse.( 突然,一只小兔子跳到我的马前。) ”可知,这一句是故事发展的转折点,可从rabbit出现后带来的结果入手扩展开去,可以写看到可爱的兔子,父子俩去追兔子,结果迷路以及在这种情况下父子俩的反应。
②由第二段所给首句“We had no idea where we were and it was getting dark.( 我们不知道自己身在何处,天渐渐黑了。) ”这一句呼应前文Uncle Paul的嘱托——不要误了晚饭,可从如何寻路返回入手去写续文。
2.续写线索
追兔子——迷路——寻找出路——迷茫——困住——下雨——崩溃——找到出路——回家
3.词汇激活
行为类
①追逐:run after/go after
②迷路:lost in/lose one’s way
③找到出路:find a way out/find one’s way
情感类
①疲惫:tired/tired out/exhausted/worn out
②崩溃:break down/fall apart
1】There was nothing left in our sight but the trees.(运用了过去分词作定语)
2】Find the river and we will be back home.(运用了祈使句+and+陈述句固定句型)
