When people want to know about the weather, they usually go to there radios, TVs, newspapers, or to the Internet. However, you can also find many weather signs among wildlife, because of their highly developed senses. Drops in air pressure produce an effect on small animals in many ways. Mice and deer are good weather indicators. People who spend a lot of time outdoors have noticed that, before a storm, field mice come out of their holes and run around. Deer leave high ground and come down from the mountains.
Birds are especially good weather indicators because they also show the effect of a pressure drop in many ways. For example, some birds become irritable (急躁的) and quarrelsome and will fight over a price of bread. Other birds chirp and sing just before a storm. It seems they know they won’t get another chance for an hour or two. Birds also look for safe places before a storm. You will sometimes see birds settling in trees or gathering together on a wire close to a building. Pre-storm low pressure makes the air so thin that birds have difficulty flying.
It is unusual to see many birds flying overhead in the summertime, rather than during the periods in the spring or autumn. Watch for other weather signs if you see this. If they fly in the wrong direction, they may be flying ahead of a storm.
By paying closer attention to some important signs in nature, we can become better prepared for any kind of weather.
4. What does the underline word “indicators” in paragraph 1 probably mean
A. Maps B. Signs C. Services D. Stations
5. What will birds do if there is a storm
A. They will share a piece of bread. B. They will make more noise than usual.
C. They will come down from tall trees. D. They will fly in different directions.
6. How can birds sense the coming of a storm
A. By feeling a drop in air temperature. B. By noticing the change of wind directions.
C. By feeling a drop in air pressure. D. By noticing the movements of other animals.
7. The best title for the text would be .
A. Signs of a Storm B. Drops in Air Pressure
C. Animals’ Sharp Senses D. Nature’s Weather Signs

Should we allow modern buildings to be built next to older buildings in a historic area of a city In order to answer this question, we must first examine whether people really want to preserve the historic feel of an area. Not all historical buildings are attractive. However, there may be other reasons — for example, economic reasons — why they should be preserved. So, let us suppose that historical buildings are both attractive and important to the majority of people. What should we do then if a new building is needed
In my view, new architectural styles can exist (存在) perfectly well alongside an older style. Indeed, there are many examples in my own hometown of Tours where modern designs have been placed very successfully next to old buildings. As long as the building in question is pleasing and does not dominate (影响) its surroundings too much, it often improves the attractiveness of the area.
It is true that there are examples of new buildings which have spoilt the area they are in, but the same can be said of some old buildings too. Yet people still speak against new buildings in historic areas. I think this is simply because people are naturally conservative (保守的) and do not like change.
Although we have to respect people’s feelings as fellow users of the buildings, I believe that it is the duty of the architect and planner to move things forward. If we always reproduced what was there before, we would all still be living in caves. Thus, I would argue against copying previous architectural styles and choose something fresh and different, even though that might be the more risky choice.
8. What does the author say about historical buildings in the first paragraph
A. Some of them are not attractive.
B. Most of them are too expensive to preserve.
C. They are more pleasing than modern buildings.
D. They have nothing to do with the historic feel of an area.
9. Which statement will the author probably agree with
A. We should reproduce the same old buildings.
B. Buildings that affect their surroundings are attractive.
C. People should protest against new buildings.
D. Some old buildings have spoilt the area they are in.
10. By “move things forward” in the last paragraph, the author probably means “ ”.
A. destroy old buildings B. choose new architectural style
C. put things in a different place D. respect people’s feelings for historical buildings
11. What is the main purpose of the passage
A. To explain why people dislike change.
B. To warn that we could end up living in caves.
C. To argue that modern buildings can be built in historic areas.
D. To make a comparison between modern buildings and historic buildings.
A 9. D 10. B 11. C
故选A项。
根据第三段“It is true that there are examples of new buildings which have spoilt the area they are in, but the same can be said of some old buildings too.(的确,有一些新建筑破坏了他们所在的地区,但一些旧建筑也是如此)”可知,作者认为,一些古老的建筑物也同样已经破坏了它们所在的地区。
根据划线词下文“If we always reproduced what was there before, we would all still be living in caves. Thus, I would argue against copying previous architectural styles and choose something fresh and different, even though that might be the more risky choice.(如果我们总是复制以前的东西,我们都会仍然生活在洞穴里。因此,我反对复制以前的建筑风格,选择一些新鲜和不同的东西,尽管这可能是更危险的选择)”可知,作者在最后一段说“move things forward”,意思可能是“选择新的建筑风格”。故选B项。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“In my view, new architectural styles can exist (存在) perfectly well alongside an older style.( 在我看来,新的建筑风格可以与旧的风格完美共存)”以及第四段“Thus, I would argue against copying previous architectural styles and choose something fresh and different, even though that might be the more risky choice.(因此,我反对复制以前的建筑风格,选择一些新鲜和不同的东西,尽管这可能是更危险的选择)”可推知,本文主要讨论了是否可以在历史文化地区兴建现代化建筑物的问题,而作者对此持支持态度。

Schools in US are huge consumers (消费者) of energy. According to ENERGY STAR, K-12 schools spend more than $6 billion every year on energy, far more than the amount spent on other resources, and at least 30 percent of this energy is used inefficiently or needlessly.
Realizing that, some schools are looking for measures to save energy in several ways, from low-cost adjustments, such as turning off lights in unused rooms, to large-scale projects, such as turning to green equipment.
As solar energy (太阳能) is becoming a more financial choice for powering buildings, more schools are making the move toward the renewable energy and using solar panels (电池板) on their rooftops. According to an online solar marketplace Energy Sage, schools have their strong points to use solar energy. They often have the kind of enough space, suitable locations that are perfect for setting up solar panels.
In September 2020, a nonprofit Generation180 released its third edition of a study on solar use in US schools. The findings showed that more than 7,300, or 55 percent, of K-12 public and private schools used solar energy, the number has increased by 81 percent since 2014.
They also described how solar schools were saving millions in energy bills, and provided several cases to show the increased savings achieved by solar-powered school districts. For example, an Arkansas school used its every year’s energy savings of nearly $100,000 to increase its teachers’ salaries.
The Interstate Renewable Energy Council, which tracks the number of K-12 schools with solar equipment and helps schools go solar, says on its website that schools with solar setups have an opportunity to educate students about clean energy, and show them that they are doing something for students’ and the planet’s health and future.
Third-party ownership also makes funding for 79 percent of schools to use solar energy possible, meaning a majority of schools don’t have to spend large amounts of money but can get the rewards of solar energy.
12. How does the author lead in the topic of the text in the first paragraph
A. By giving an example. B. By raising a problem.
C. By offering an evidence. D. By making a comparison.
13. What is the advantage of using solar energy for the schools in the US
A. Enough space to fix solar equipment.
B. Fund support from solar marketplace.
C. Free access to using solar energy.
D. Being the largest consumers of the energy.
14. What effect does using solar energy have on the schools
A. Increasing their operating expense.
B. Threatening their teachers’ income.
C. Raising the students’ environmental awareness.
D. Reducing their total amount of energy consuming.
15. Which word can best describe the schools’ using solar energy
A. Supportive B. Doubtful. C. Cautious. D. Worrying.
B 13. A 14. C 15. A

36. ruined
37. was destroyed
38. flooding
39. worse 40. the
41. which 42. loss
43. to start
44. has live
45. who
分析句子可知,destroy(破坏,毁灭)是主句中谓语动词,与主语 A large part of his community是单数名词,所以谓语动词也应使用单数形式。 故填was destroyed。
分析句子可知,(flood) homes与forcing people to evacuate是并列关系,作结果状语,flood是非谓语动词,与其逻辑主语the Tulameen River之间是主动关系,也用现在分词表主动。
故填the。
故填which。
故填to start。
故填has live。
故填who。

Sports are more than competitions. To me, they mean growth under the care of others. I learned this the hard way.
I used to be very shy and often felt lonely. I was afraid of physical education. My classmates often laughed at me. “Look at that girl,” they said. “Her feet don’t leave the ground when she runs!” Their words embarrassed me. Moreover, whenever there were some competitive games, no one in the class liked to have me as their team member. As a result, I often ended up looking at others enjoy their games.
Things would go on like that but for a sports meet. By mistake, my name was put on the list of the women’s 1,500 meters race. By the time people found the mistake, it was too late. My deskmate was a natural athlete. She said to me, “I couldn’t run that race in your place, because I’ve signed up for three events already.” Other girls of the class said the same.
I was dumbfounded (目瞪口呆). 1,500 meters! Running against the best runners from other classes! And in front of students of the entire school! It would be the worst nightmare (恶梦) I’d ever have!
“You still have time to catch up because there is still one month before the sports meet,” they said.
My deskmate patted me on the shoulder, “Cool! You will run for our class! And we will train together.” Yes, this is not just for myself, but for my class too, I said to myself. But still, 1,500 meters to me was like Mount Everest to a beginning climber. Every afternoon after class, my deskmate ran beside me.
One month certainly couldn’t make me a good runner. But when I was standing behind the start line, I no longer felt lonely or afraid. I saw my classmates standing by the tracks waving at me as if to run beside me.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
With the shot of the starting gun, I dashed out and ran as fast as I could.

As expected, I was almost the last to cross the finish line.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
With the shot of the starting gun, I dashed out and ran as fast as I could. Soon I was out of breath and slowed down. Other runners passed me one by one. My legs were getting heavier and heavier, and I might fall down at any moment. However, I suddenly heard my classmates chanting my name. My deskmate even ran along the tracks beside me and cheered for me at the same time, just like the month-long training we did together.
As expected, I was almost the last to cross the finish line. Immediately, my classmates held my arms and all kinds of drinks were handed to me. I felt warm and moved. Even though I was almost the last to finish the race, I was confident I would improve in the future. That sports meet was unforgettable. The memory of my classmates cheering for me, holding my arms and handing me drinks stays fresh on my mind. I am no longer lonely and afraid. Sports are no longer about winning or losing. They have brought me close to my classmates and helped us grow together.

D

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
