应用文:
Dear fellow students,
Given that most high school students can't get enough sleep, our school will hold an campaign concerning regular and enough sleep. I am writing to firmly advocate us students to take part in it.
Staying up late does great harm to us both physically and mentally. If we stay up late frequently, we will fail to focus in class. What’s worse, staying up late will lead to a poor immune system. In an effort to gain enough sleep and a healthy life, all of us are highly recommended to plan our time properly for homework and take physical exercise regularly.
Only by doing this will we enjoy a healthy and happy life.
Yours,
Li Hua

(17) I’m here today with Matt Miller, who has completed his 29,000-mile journey in just six weeks, with a total of 180 hours in flight. (19) Born in South Dakota, Matt is a freshman at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and has said that as a child he was scared of flying. All of that changed when he received his pilot license at just seventeen. After that, he only spent a few years planning everything out before beginning his journey around the world. Matt is here with us today for an interview. Welcome Matt! First, why don’t you tell all our listeners about the craziest thing you saw during your adventure (20)青华中学2023-2024学年高一上学期12月月考英语试卷

阅读下列短文,从每题给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题纸上将该项涂黑。
A
The hardest thing about planning a big European vacation is actually narrowing down where to go—there are just so many amazing places. That's why we've put together what we think are the best cities in Europe.
AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS
Amsterdam is the kind of city that you can't help but fall in love with. It's the kind of place where you dream about moving and buying an apartment that overlooks (俯瞰) a peaceful river. It's relaxing and you get a sense that the locals have an amazing quality of free life. We love simply walking around the canals and exploring the city's neighborhoods.
BERLIN, GERMANY
Berlin is said to be “poor but charming” and we think that's a pretty good description. Actually, Berlin is becoming more expensive as its popularity grows, but it's still the top spot for Germany's artistic scene. Berlin isn't particularly pretty but it's an energetic city with cool people and cooler graffiti-covered (涂鸦) neighborhoods.
LISBON, PORTUGAL
Lisbon is a hot destination and I doubt it will be quickly moving up in the ranks of Europe's most visited cities. Lisbon is a popular coastal city that's famous for its unique buildings and charming café culture. It's also very friendly on the wallet when compared to other Western European cities—food and lodging are both priced reasonably and attractions are about average.
FLORENCE, ITALY
Florence may be touristy but that’s no reason to ignore this birthplace of the Renaissance (文艺复兴). If you do your research, you can find plenty of excellent Italian restaurants and world-class ice cream. And, of course, the city is beautiful and home to top museums so it's a dream for art and history lovers.
21. Which city best suits people holidaying on the cheap
A.BERLIN, GERMANY. B.FLORENCE, ITALY.
C.LISBON, PORTUGAL. D.AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS.
22. What do BERLIN and FLORENCE have in common
A. They are famous for food. B. They are attractive to artists.
C. They are cities of scenic beauty. D. They are of political importance.
23. Where is the text probably from
A. A travel magazine. B. A news report.
C. A restaurant advertisement. D. A science column.
B
I am sitting at the table in my favorite Boston bookstore-café, laptop open, writing. Ten minutes ago I ordered coffee. The server---a young, dark-haired woman with a broad smile and glasses---stopped and quietly said, “I just want to tell you how much your TED talk meant to me, you helped me find out what I really wanted to do with my life—go to medical school—and then you helped me do what I needed to do to get there. Thank you.”
Tears in my eyes, I asked, “What’s your name ”
“Fetaine,” she said. Then we talked for the next ten minutes about Fetaine’s challenges in the past and new-found excitement about her future.
Everyone who communicates with me is special and memorable, but this kind of communication happens far more often than I’d ever have expected: a stranger warmly greets me, shares a personal story about how they successfully dealt with difficulties, and then simply thanks me for my part in it. They are women and men, old and young, poor and wealthy. But something connects them: all have felt powerless in the face of great pressure and anxiety, and all discovered a quite simple way to free themselves from that feeling of powerlessness.
For most writers, the book comes first, then the responses. For me, it was the other way around. First, I performed experiments that led to a talk I gave at the TED Global conference in 2012. In that talk, I discussed some interesting findings about how we can quickly increase our confidence and decrease(减轻)our anxiety in challenging situations. I also shared my own troubles and how I learned to become more confident. Soon after the twenty-one-minute video of the talk was posted on the Internet, I began hearing from people who had seen it.
Of course, watching my talk didn’t magically give Fetaine the knowledge she needed to do well on Medical College Admission Test. But it may have helped her get out of the fear that could have prevented her from expressing the things she knew.
24. What happened in the Boston bookstore-café
A. The writer waited ten minutes for her coffee.
B. The writer came across a friend of hers.
C. A waitress expressed her thanks to the writer.
D. A waitress encouraged the writer to give a TED talk.
25. What do those people who communicate with the writer have in common
A. They once face d problems and felt helpless. B. They shared personal stories about strangers.
C. They were famous but under great pressure. D. They were afraid to communicate with others.
26. What may be the theme of the writer’s talk in 2012
A. How to find interesting things in life. B. How to perform meaningful experiments.
C. How to overcome anxiety in a talk. D. How to increase confidence.
27. How did the writer influence Fetaine in the writer’s eyes
A. She helped Fetaine to get a good job. B. She helped Fetaine with her knowledge.
C. She advised Fetaine to go to medical school. D. She gave Fetaine power to look to the future.
C
Do you get nervous thinking about geometry, equations (方程式) or a coming math test If your answer is “yes”, you are far from alone. Math anxiety has become a common psychological (心理的) condition among students around the world. Students in countries with higher levels of math anxiety tend to achieve lower math grades, according to a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences on Feb. 15.
Math anxiety—a negative emotional reaction to the core subject—causes fear, physical suffering and behavior problems among young pupils, according to a University of Cambridge study. In ordinary life, many people experience some degree of discomfort when meeting with a math problem, ranging from mild tension to strong fear.
Some people also experience physical symptoms such as sweaty palms or a racing heart. They may then try to avoid every situation involving numbers, meaning they are held back from pursuing careers related to this subject, such as science, technology or engineering, according to The Guardian.
Reassurance (慰藉) comes from the fact that those with math anxiety aren’t destined (注定的) to be bad at math. “If a child has math anxiety, don’t assume that they’re not good at math. They may have had a really bad experience with math and there are ways to improve math achievement,” Daniel Ansari, the senior author of the study told The London Free Press. “Students with math anxiety are not cognitively (认知地) disadvantaged.”
Also, there are ways to manage your stress related to math. If you’re feeling stressed before a math exam, it may help to spend a few minutes exploring those feelings before the exam begins. “It’s about making sure you’re interpreting your feelings correctly, ”Sian Beilock, a cognitive scientist in the US told the BBC.“Just because you have a fast heartbeat and sweaty palms, that does not necessarily mean you will fail.”
A little math anxiety could be taken as a positive challenge to overcome. Just like many people get stage fright before delivering a speech, this nervous energy can help to motivate, according to Ian Lyons, a psychologist at Georgetown University in the US.
28. What does the author focus on in Paragraphs 2 and 3
A. Analyzing causes. B. Proving examples.
C. Explaining influences. D. Drawing comparisons.
29. What message do Daniel Ansari’s words convey in Paragraph 4
A. Math anxiety is what leads to students’ failure.
B. Math anxiety is what nearly everyone will face.
C. Math anxiety doesn’t necessarily mean poor math.
D. Math anxiety doesn’t necessarily allow improvement space.
30. How should you deal with the stress related to math according to the article
A. Learn to understand your feelings. B. Turn to cognitive experts for help.
C. Take all nervous energy as a challenge. D. Practice more before taking math exams.
31.What is the best title for the passage
A. What is anxiety B. Worried by numbers
C. How to avoid studying math D. Math test -a nightmare for all
D
For centuries, humans have explored the Earth’s mountains, jungles and deserts. But despite covering over 70% of the Earth’s surface, the ocean is still relatively a mystery. In fact, we know more about the surface of Mars than we learn about the sea floor. However, getting a fuller picture of the ocean would enable us to navigate ships more safely, create more accurate climate models, build offshore wind farms and protect ocean species—all part of what’s known as the “blue economy”.
Underwater robotic vehicles equipped with sensors are helping gather that data more quickly and more cheaply than ever before. But many of these vehicles rely on batteries with a limited lifespan, and need to return to a boat or the shore to recharge, making it difficult for them to map remoter parts of the sea.
A company called Seatrec is rising to the challenge, founded by oceanographer Yi Chao. While working at NASA, He developed a way to power ocean robots by making use of the naturally occurring temperature disparity of the sea. The power module can be installed on Seatrec’s own floating device. As the float moves between colder and warmer parts of the ocean, the material inside the power module either melts or becomes solid, causing pressure that in turn creates energy and powers the robot’s generator. “The ocean robots can get charged by the sea, so they can extend their lifetime almost indefinitely,” Chao said.
The power module can be placed in existing data-gathering robots. The robot dives a kilometer down to examine the chemistry and the shape of the seabed, using sonar (声呐) to create a map of the surrounding area. The robot returns to the surface to send back its findings by means of satellite.
The technology can extend the reach of data-gathering devices, according to Jamie Phillips, director of the GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project. “One of the huge challenges we have is simply physics: unlike mapping the Earth’s surface where we can use cameras or satellites. At sea, the light can’t go through the water column. So we’re much limited to using sonar systems. Therefore, this technology can help deal with the problem well,” said Jamie.
32. What does Paragraph 1 tell us about ocean exploration
A. It is challenging but significant. B. It may do harm to ocean creatures.
C. It can be as difficult as space exploration. D. It mainly focuses on mapping the seabed.
33. What’s the problem with underwater robotic vehicles
A. They fail to gather data rapidly. B. They lack the stable power supply.
C. They can only map shallow waters. D. They work poorly with advanced sensors.
34.What does the underlined word “disparity” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Range. B. Control. C. Record. D. Difference.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Aims of the Seabed 2030 Project
B. New power modules for ocean robots
C. The “blue economy” project of Seatrec
D. The future of data-gathering ocean robots
第二节 七选五阅读(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Do you have clothes in your wardrobe that you never wear Do you keep things in your cupboards that you never use Do you have books on your shelves that you never open And what about the mess on the floor 36 If the answer to these questions is yes, then you’re not alone. Most of us have too many things.
People with untidy, cluttered(凌乱的)rooms have untidy minds. 37 This makes them unhappy. There is no doubt that too many things are bad for us and we have to change.
Now, imagine this bedroom: a white floor, a bed, a wardrobe and a desk and chair. That’s all. It looks calm and relaxing. This is the minimalist style(简约主义). Minimalists believe that they don’t have to own a lot of things to be happy. 38
You are probably asking at this point “Do I have to throw away all my favorite things ” 39 A minimalist room is too extreme for most people, and personal things like photos and books are comforting and help us to feel at home. 40 Consider this simple rule: if you don’t use something for longer than 6 months, get rid of it. You have to regularly tidy and sort out all the things in your room. After regular decluttering(定期清理), you’ll have more space in your wardrobe and cupboards. No more “You must tidy your room!” from your parents! Your room will look more spacious and you’ll feel free.
A. Of course the answer is that you don’t.
B. Actually, they enjoy their messy room.
C. They try to live with only necessary things.
D. But regular decluttering isn’t a bad idea.
E. Why do you keep so many things in your room
F. Is it difficult to find things when you need them
G. They can feel stressed and they find it difficult to relax.
