When Arvin Kuipers, who graduated from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine in 2017 and loves
Chinese culture, asks his patients to stick out their tongue so he can diagnose(诊断) their illness, many are
confused.
Kuipers, 30, practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, said, “In
TCM I need to do face and tongue diagnosis. That’s strange for people in my country.” One elderly woman
had been visiting him occasionally for advice, but her first experience with TCM surprised her. She had
never experienced acupuncture (针灸) or any other TCM treatment. “She came in, and I examined her face
and tongue,” said Kuipers. “I told the patient her kidneys were not doing well and that she wasn’t getting
proper sleep.” The woman was shocked by his insight and asked if he had been spying on her. “Actually, it
was easy to diagnose her condition when I saw the dark rings under her eyes. Her energy levels were also
very low at the time.”
Kuipers opened his TCM clinic in September. Most of his work involves performing acupuncture,
cupping as well as tuina — a TCM massage that patients in the West like the most, he said. In some cases he
also gave his patients traditional herbal medicines.
Kuipers usually makes a cup of Chinese tea to calm his patients if they are nervous about the
acupuncture needles. He also explains to them the meridian (经络 ) system, which is a central concept of
TCM, yin and yang, and other concepts. “In TCM, good health requires balanced yin and yang, so
practitioners not only pay attention to a patient’s illness, but also to his or her overall physical condition,”
said Kuipers. “TCM is also a different culture and offers a new perspective, instead of being a curing
method.”
As of early April, Kuipers has treated more than 200 patients, many of whom come to his clinic every
week. “TCM does work, and works well. My patients really feel better with it, so I value it, and when my
3

patients feel better I also feel better.”
24.What can we learn from the elderly woman’s story in paragraph 2
A.The elderly woman trusted TCM treatment in the beginning.
B.TCM is very different from the treatment in her country.
C.The elderly woman used to visit Kuipers a lot for TCM.
D.The elderly woman was shocked at her kidneys not doing well
25.Which TCM treatment is most welcomed by the patients in the West
A.Tuina. B.Acupuncture. C.Cupping. D.Herbal medicines.
26.What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A.Why Kuipers’ patients are fond of Chinese tea.
B.How Kuipers explains meridian system to his patients.
C.How Kuipers applies Chinese culture and treatments to patients.
D.Why Kuipers pays little attention to overall physical condition.
27.What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage
A.To praise Kuipers for his TCM treatments.
B.To stress the value of teaching foreigners TCM.
C.To show the popularity of TCM with patients in the Netherlands.
D.To tell the story of Kuipers practising TCM in the Netherlands.

From July 19 to 24, I travelled to the Shiyanghe Basin in Wuwei, located in the heart of a desert in
Northwest China’s Gansu province. Looking down from the plane on the way to the destination, all I saw
was endless ranges of desert mountains and sands, which made it a breathtaking transformation when I saw
green gardens and fruit farms upon arrival.
A local farmer in this landscape shared his success story of enlarging his farm through greenhouse crop
production with me. Thanks to the greenhouse technology, his farm has grown from 10 workers, to around
100 within 10 years. The key role of women in agriculture is also praised, as their contributions increase the
energy of the landscape.
We also visited a greenhouse with vertical (垂 直 的 ) watermelon farming. It was a well-aired,
strategically positioned structure with shade cloth, vertical supports, drip irrigation (滴灌), good lighting, and
insect management. It was amazing how technology can transform limited space into a great agricultural
powerhouse, which not only increases outputs but also reduces environmental impact. What’s even more
impressive is that it’s a great approach: It doesn’t stop at farming but can be used in food processing
industries. This ensures that the journey from seed to consumers is seamless (无缝的), maintaining product
quality and reducing waste.
I learned that Wuwei, although located in a region famous for its dryness, has attempted to become a
major supplier of fruits and vegetables, competing with other regions in southern China which have
sufficient water resources and good weather conditions. Through advanced irrigation techniques like drip
systems, controlled environments, and effective resource management, they show the power of sustainable
agriculture and the untiring spirit of those who transform deserts into fruitful landscapes.
28.What can we learn about the local farmer from paragraph 2
A.He has more than 100 workers on his farm.
B.He is a new-type farmer who likes to share stories.
C.He is successful in adopting greenhouse technology.
D.He doesn’t admit women’s contribution to agriculture.
4
{#{QQABaYKQoggAQBJAABgCQQHICgOQkBCCCAoOgAAIsAABwRFABAA=}#}
29.What is the third paragraph mainly about
A.A pleasant visiting experience. B.Benefits of watermelon farming.
C.Traditional agricultural approaches. D.A greenhouse with advanced techniques.
30.According to the author, what is special about Wuwei
A.It has enough water resources. B.It has the same conditions with southern regions.
C.It experiences drought most often. D.It establishes fruitful landscapes in the desert area.
31.Where is the text most probably taken from
A.A newspaper. B.A guidebook. C.A research paper. D.A book review.
D
In the first test of its kind in Europe, and only the second in the world, Belgian researchers tested 39
brands of straws (吸管 ) for the group of synthetic (合成的 ) chemicals known as poly-and perfluoroalkyl
substances (PFAS). The straws are made from five materials — paper, bamboo, glass, stainless steel and
plastic. PFAS were found in the majority of the straws tested and were most common in those made from
paper and bamboo. They were not found only in steel straws tested.
PFAS are used to make everyday products, from outdoor clothing to non-stick pans, resistant (抵抗 to
water, heat and stains. They are, however, potentially harmful to people, wildlife and the environment. They
have been related to a number of health problems, including lower response to vaccines (疫苗), lower birth
weight, thyroid disease, liver damage, kidney cancer and testicular cancer. They break down very slowly
over time and can last thousands of years in the environment, a property that has led to them being known as
“forever chemicals”.
A growing number of countries, including the UK and Belgium, have sopped the sale of single-use
plastic products, including drinking straws, and plant-based versions have become popular. The PFAS
concentrations (浓缩物 ) were low in them and, bear in mind that most people tend to only use straws
occasionally, bringing a limited risk to human health. However, PFAS can remain in the body for many years
and concentrations can build up over time.
It isn’t known whether the PFAS were added to the straws by the producer for waterproofing or the
PFAS were the result of contamination. Potential sources of contamination include the soil the plant-based
materials were grown in and the water used in the production process. However, the presence of the
chemicals in almost every brand of paper straws means it is likely that it was, in some cases, being used as a
water-resistant coating, say the researchers.
32.Why are PFAS called “forever chemicals”
A.They are commonly seen in daily life. B.They bring humans health problems.
C.They remain in the environment for long. D.They can resist water, heat and stains.
33.How can PFAS harm people’s health
A.By bringing people air pollution. B.By polluting humans’ food.
C.By building up little by little in humans’ body D.By making people addicted to drinking easily.
34.What does the underlined word “contamination” in the last paragraph mean
A.Pollution. B.Discovery. C.Experiment. D.Development.
35.What does the text mainly talk about
A.More and more countries give up single-use plastic products.
B.PFAS are widely used in the production of daily necessities.
C.Certain kinds of new synthetic chemicals were discovered.
D.Environment-friendly drinking straws are actually harmful.

第二节(共 5小题;每小题 2.5分, 满分 12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空自处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Have you become really interested in self-improvement lately This pursuit of more and better things,
whether they be better health, clothes, or money has been normalized, but sometimes to the detriment of
people’s wellbeing. This self-improvement mindset can make you feel disempowered, like you should be
someone else. Here are five time-wasting self-improvement habits that are harmful to you.
Extremely high and unrealistic expectations
Having goals can be very helpful since it can help give you something to work towards and place your
energy into. 36 This is a harmful habit because you’re not focused on yourself and your enjoyment
of life, but on achieving other people’s ideals. Remember, you don’t have to be perfect, you just need to be
yourself.
The quick culture mentality
The idea about how you must never give up or that you must constantly hustle, even at the expense of
your health can be very damaging to your wellbeing. Sometimes, things just don’t work out and you need to
give up, but that’s not a bad thing. 37 As much as there are people who have support themselves and
others by working long hours, constantly hustling without taking any breaks for yourself to get your bearings
may only lead to burnout.
Putting aesthetics (审美) over health
Social media can be a tool to help you change your life for the better, it can also mislead how you see
yourself and others. 38 Women are implored to get dangerous, unnecessary cosmetic surgery and
men are told to be jacked and in the gym by any means for those gains, but our bodies are not trends that we
should be ashamed of.
Information without application
Like many others, you may decide to apply the self-improvement information once you finished reading
all of it, but there are so many books about it and new ones keeps coming out. 39 As powerful as
knowledge is, applied knowledge is the best kind. Don’t be afraid to apply what you’ve learnt into the world.
Visualizations without action
Perhaps you see yourself as a painter, or you wish you’d have a big house. Visualizing the life you want
and putting it out there can be a great way to get yourself motivated. However, this can become an issue
when you only put it out there and dream about it with nothing in between to bridge the gap. 40
Remember that you have to actually do it to get there.
A.It can be heartbreaking and tough, but it may be necessary.
B.It will be too bad if you fail to keep your momentum and work on.
C.You need to create great expectations in order to drive yourself forward.
D.If it lacks the structure and action, all you dreamt about is only a dream.
E.However, you might create wild expectations which are too much for yourself.
F.Instead of promoting healthy lifestyles, it advertises certain body types as desirable.
G.All of these how-to’s can be helpful, but they are useless if you don’t actually use them.

temptations, but doing so comes with considerable costs to our limited supply of willpower.
Another worthwhile 51 is to collect similar activities together, keeping transition time to a 52
point. Instead of spreading phone calls, meetings and emails throughout your day, try 53 related tasks
so that there are fewer transitions.
In some jobs, multitasking is 54 . Some of us truly do need to stay connected to our clients,

He ran out of breath and his legs seemed to be filled with lead.Although he was anxious to run forward quickly, he had no strength. Gradually,Jim slowed down. But Tim kept running forward.Even if he fell behind, he never gave up. With his good endurance, he sped forward in the last 100 meters. Eventually, He surpassed Jim to win the first place and delightedly received the trophy.

W: Well, at first I was afraid it’d be boring. But it turned out to be amazing.
M: Why
W: Though I’ve lived in this city for over 20 years, there were many places that I hadn’t visited before. I saw parts of my city I had never seen before with my friend.
M: Where did you go together
W: We went to the zoo and the biggest park in town, and we also went to see an opera together. But what impressed me most was swimming in the lake in the mountains.
M: Did your friend have a good time
W: You bet. She said she would come again next year.
【原文】M: When we arrive at your grandparents’ home this afternoon, do you remember what you should do first
W: Yes. I should kiss my grandparents’ hands.
M: Good. Don’t forget. If you run to play with your cousins right away, that will be very rude.
W: But… Can I go and play right after
M: No. You should stay with us until we’ve all said our greetings to each other. Your grandparents will probably ask you some questions, too.
W: Like what
M: Like, how old are you now How are you doing in school Were you a good older sister to your brother this morning
W: Oh…
M: Don’t worry. You’ll have plenty of time to play afterward. We won’t leave until evening.
W: Yay! I haven’t seen Kaya and Ali for two years!
【原文】W: Number A67 What do you want
M: Hi. I just want to pay the fee to register my car.
W: Did you bring your registration ticket you got in the mail
M: Oh, I’m sorry. I was in such a hurry this morning that. . .
W: OK. Save the story for someone who cares. Did you bring your driver’s license, at least
M: Yeah. Here you are.
W: OK. You have a Mercedes C330
M: Yes, I do.
W: Great. $205, including the temporary number fee $10.
M: Can I use a credit card
W: You people never pay attention! It says quite clearly right here in front of you that we only take cash or personal checks. I think it’s also posted on our website, and at the front door. Why don’t you pay more attention
M: Excuse me, Miss, I think you’re being extremely rude. Either you show me a little more respect, or I make a complaint against you to your boss. You choose.
W: Fine. There’s an ATM around the corner. You can get your cash there, sir.
M: That’s much better! I’ll be right back.
【原文】M: I can hear 100 compliments and a single abuse, and what do I remember The abuse. Unfortunately, the human brain always focuses on the negative. So how can we fight the brain’s negative bias One of the best weapons is gratitude. So I started a project “Thanks a Thousand”. I learned dozens of lessons, but let me just focus on four today. Firstly, look up. I met a cashier Chung in a coffee shop. Chung said that the hardest part of her job is when customers don’t respect her at all. Because they’ll hand her their credit cards without looking up from their phones. So I’m going to take those two seconds, look at them and make eye contact when dealing with people. Alright, secondly, smell the roses and the dirt. I thanked this man Ed Kaufmann. Inspired by Ed, I decided to really let the coffee sit on my tongue for five seconds. Gratitude is about taking a moment and holding on to it as long as possible. Thirdly, find the hidden masterpieces all around you. Now, one of my favorite conversations was with the guy who invented my coffee cup lid, Doug Fleming. And finally, the last lesson I want to tell you is: practice six degrees of gratitude. My hope is that we use gratitude as a flame to action. Thank you a thousand for listening to my story.
