I had heard about VR (虚拟现实) being used in the classroom but didn’t think I’d ever try it. I actually got a VR headset (耳机) as a New Year present from my friend and started searching for apps online to see whether it could be useful in my classroom. I soon found a free app through Google Cardboard and knew I had a lesson!
To use VR in the classroom, you need two things: a smartphone that can download the app or video, and a headset. To find the actual videos we’d be watching, I searched through free VR apps like Orbulus, Trench Experience VR and Cardboard. I also found hundreds of videos on YouTube. The key is to find videos made with the 360 cameras. While they don’t give the kids a 3-D experience like the apps, they are still amazingly immersive ( 沉浸式虚拟现实的) when viewed through the headsets.
So far we’ve had three lessons. I first used the headsets with my seventh grade U. S. History class. The Trench app allows students to “walk” through a trench (战壕) during World War I and learn about many of the tools used during that time. My second activity was working with the sixth grade Geography class. They used the headsets strictly as viewers to watch a 360 video taking them through a rocky landscape. My final activity was the most interesting one, according to the reactions (反应) of my eighth grade Civics students. I was able to find a White House 360 tour that was made a few years ago.
For the rest of this year, I plan to continue using apps and 360 videos in my classes. Next year I’m going to write to my boss asking for a 360 video camera so that I can begin to create my own VR field trips for the students.
4. When did the author get the idea of trying VR in her classroom
A. When she was searching for apps online.
B. After she received a VR headset as a gift.
C. When she was having a conversation with her friend.
D. After she heard about VR being used in the classroom.
5. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. The kids. B. The apps.
C. The videos. D. The headsets.
6. Which VR lesson was the most popular one among students
A. The Civics lesson. B. The Science lesson.
C. The Geography lesson. D. The U.S. History lesson.
7. What will the author do next year
A. Buy a 360 video camera.
B. Create 360 videos by herself.
C. Take her students on more field trips.
D. Try new teaching methods in her classes.

“I left Carrara when I was 26, and I was the youngest stone-cutter on the Abu Simbel worksite,” says Luciano Paoli. Aged 78, he is one of the workers with first-hand experience of this international adventure: the rescue of the Ramesses II temples in Egypt from the rising waters of the Aswan High Dam.
A green hand from the marble (大理石) caves of Carrara who helped cut the temples of Abu Simbel into blocks, Paoli attended the event celebrating the 50th anniversary (周年纪念) of the adventure, hosted by Salini Impregilo and the Museo Egizio (Egyptian Museum) in Turin, Italy.
On February 4, 2019, the rescue of the world heritage site was celebrated at an event held at the museum with Chief Executive Pietro Salini, Museo Egizio Director Christian Greco and UNESCO Regional Director Ana Luiza Thompson-Flores attending.
“Taking down two temples piece by piece, putting them back together elsewhere and perfectly rebuilding the landforms (地貌) around them was a great idea and showed us a new frontier (领域) for cultural protection,” said Salini. “It also showed the world that progress did not have to come at the expense of a world heritage site. Today, 50 years after this fantastic project, we remember with great admiration all those people from different countries and cultures, who, with their unique skills, achieved this impressive achievement for future generations.”
The work of moving the temples, in which Impregilo took part, was done with the support of 50 countries and some 2, 000 people in little more than 1,100 days.
This unique project is also being celebrated with the publication of “Nubiana”, a multimedia tome (多媒体巨著) that tells the story of the temples built more than 3,000 years ago in honour of the great Pharaoh Ramesses II. It also describes the engineering challenges of their rescue by international teamwork.
8. Why did Paoli leave Carrara at age 26
A To learn stone-cutting skills.
B. To work on an international team.
C. To attend a 50th anniversary event.
D. To fight against a rising flood in Egypt.
9. What can we learn from Salini’s words in Paragraph 4
A. He thought highly of the great project.
B. He had a long wait for the anniversary.
C. He called on us to protect cultural heritage.
D. He expected future generations to work together.
10. What do we know about “Nubiana”
A. It is the fruit of international effort.
B. It is part of the anniversary celebration.
C. It is in honour of the Pharaoh Ramesses II.
D. It shows the engineering of building temples.
11. What is the text mainly about
A. Impregilo’s huge success as an organiser.
B. Paoli’s great achievement as a stone-cutter.
C. Two processes in the rescue of Abu Simbel.
D. The celebration of the Abu Simbel rescue.

There are more than 250 Indigenous (本土的) languages in Australia but, according to an AIATSIS 2018-19 survey, only 123 Aboriginal (澳大利亚土著的) and Torres Strait Islander languages are still in use. Of those, only about 12 are strong and being taught to children.
“It’s very worrying,” says Professor Jakelin Troy, a Ngarigu woman and linguist (语言学家) at the University of Sydney. “As a Ngarigu person in Australia, my own language is not spoken by my community,” she says. “There are a few people who know a little bit about the language.”
But that is beginning to change, she adds, and her community is starting to use their language again. “Our language is not a language that has no future,” she says. “But the future is in our hands.”
“I can now sing a song in my language and I can introduce myself in my language. Last year, I couldn’t do that. It doesn’t take very long to get a language going again, but people need to be supported to do that.”
And Professor Troy is doing what she can to help this along. She designed an Aboriginal language K-10 syllabus (教学大纲) for all school ages. She was also a lead writer on the Australian curriculum for language, focusing on how to teach Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages.
There are now thousands of students studying an Aboriginal language at school in Australia. “Young Australians love being Australian and engaging with who and what we, as the Indigenous people of Australia are. They want to be part of it,” she says.
Like Professor Troy, Professor Felicity Meakins, a linguist at the University of Queensland, wants Indigenous languages to be taught in schools. But she’d also like them to be spoken in different domains (领域), including artistic practices. She points to examples such as Kylie and Clint Bracknell, Noongar people from Western Australia, who have been translating films and versions of Macbeth into the Noongar language.
“I’d love to see language really filling all of the domains where it belongs,” she says.
12. What problem does the survey find about Indigenous languages
A. They are disappearing.
B. They are refused by children.
C. They stop being taught at many schools.
D. They receive little attention from linguists.
13. How does Troy sound when mentioning her community’s reusing their own language
A. Worried. B. Doubtful. C. Hopeful. D. Humorous.
14. How have Troy’s efforts turned out
A. They have experienced many challenges.
B. They have won wide praise from local people.
C. They need support from Indigenous language speakers.
D. They help Aboriginal languages find their places in schools.
15. What does Meakins expect of Indigenous languages
A. They will be studied as college majors.
B. They will be taught to children at home.
C. They will be recognized as official languages.
D. They will be spoken in fields other than school education.

This unique project is also being celebrated with the publication of “Nubiana” a multimedia tome (多媒体巨著) that tells the story of the temples built more than 3,000 years ago in honour of the great Pharaoh Ramesses II. It also describes the engineering challenges of their rescue by international teamwork.

【答案】12. A 13. C 14. D 15. D

【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“her community is starting to use their language again(她的社区又开始使用他们的语言了)”以及“Our language is not a language that has no future(我们的语言不是没有未来的语言)”可知,Troy所在社区的人们逐渐开始使用他们的本土语言,她觉得自己的本土语言一定会复兴起来的,故选C项。

【15题详解】
