(2023·山东东营高二联考)There were smiling children all the way. Clearly they knew at what time the train passed their homes and they made it their business to stand along the railway, wave to complete strangers and cheer them up as they rushed towards Penang. Often whole families stood outside their homes and waved and smiled as if those on the trains were their favourite relatives. This is the simple village people of Malaysia. I was moved.
I had always travelled to Malaysia by plane or car,so this was the first time I was on a train. I did not particularly relish the long train journey and had brought along a dozen magazines to read and reread. I looked about the train. There was not one familiar face. I sighed and sat down to read my Economics.
It was not long before the train was across the Causeway and in Malaysia. Johore Baru was just another city like Singapore,so I was tired of looking at the crowds of people as they hurried past. As we went beyond the city,I watched the straight rows of rubber trees and miles and miles of green. Then the first village came into sight, immediately I came alive; I decided to wave back.
From then on my journey became interesting. I threw my magazines into the waste basket and decided to join in Malaysian life. Then everything came alive. The mountains seemed to speak to me. Even the trees were smiling. I stared at everything as if I was looking at it for the first time.
The day passed fast and I even forgot to have my lunch until I felt hungry. I looked at my watch and was surprised that it was 3: 00 p. m. Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth. I looked at the people all around me. They all looked beautiful. When my uncle arrived with a smile,I threw my arms around him to give him a warm hug. I had never done this before. He seemed surprised and then his weather-beaten face warmed up with a huge smile. We walked arm in arm to his car.
I looked forward to the return journey.

(2022·全国高考甲卷)As Ginni Bazlinton reached Antarctica, she found herself greeted by a group of little Gentoo penguins(企鹅) longing to say hello. These gentle, lovely gatekeepers welcomed her and kick-started what was to be a trip Ginni would never forget.
Ever since her childhood,Ginni, now 71,has had a deep love for travel. Throughout her career(职业) as a professional dancer, she toured in the UK,but always longed to explore further. When she retired from dancing and her sons eventually flew the nest, she decided it was time to take the plunge.
After taking a degree at Chichester University in Related Arts,Ginni began to travel the world, eventually getting work teaching English in Japan and Chile. And it was in Chile she discovered she could get last-minute cheap deals on ships going to Antarctica from the islands off Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost tip of the South American mainland. “I just decided wanted to go,” she says. “I had no idea about what I’d find there and I wasn’t nervous,I just wanted to do it. And I wanted to do it alone as I always prefer it that way. ”
In March 2008, Ginni boarded a ship with 48 passengers she’d never met before,to begin the journey towards Antarctica. “From seeing the wildlife to witnessing sunrises, the whole experience was amazing. Antarctica left an impression on me that no other place has,” Ginni says. “I remember the first time I saw a humpback whale; it just rose out of the water like some prehistoric creature and I thought it was smiling at us. You could still hear the operatic sounds it was making underwater. ”
The realization that this is a precious land,to be respected by humans, was one of the biggest things that hit home to Ginni.

(2023·江西赣州高二检测)Teenagers who travel around the world alone have been making headlines quite often. A young person alone in a dangerous situation attracts attention and sponsors. Young sailors also attract various views. For example, Jessica Watson was asked by the government to cancel her voyage, yet the Prime Minister called her “a hero for young Australians” when she returned. It seems that there is confusion about the competence and independence of young people.
The popular psychologists tell us that teenage brains are likely to make wrong judgments. But such ideas often do not apply to specific individuals. Between the ages of 14 and 18,teenagers vary greatly in their abilities. The amount of independence that each is allowed should be determined not simply by their age but by discussion with the related, responsible adults. Some teens are certainly inexperienced and can make childish mistakes, but the ones who attempt dangerous journeys normally do so by winning the confidence of hard-headed and well-qualified adult supporters.
But it’s also wrong to think that any 16-year-old can desire to get achievements as unusual as Jessica Watson’s. Watson calls herself “an ordinary girl who has a dream”. Her intention is to encourage teenagers but this idea can have the opposite effect of making them feel not good enough because great achievements are beyond them. Should all teens have such dreams Actually, individuals face varying circumstances that restrict their dreams.
Teenagers who travel around the world alone should not be judged by preconceived (事先形成的) views about young people. Nor should young “ordinary” teenagers feel stressed to long for extraordinary personal goals. In fact,I believe the example of solo sailing overstresses individualism. The teenage years are when most of us “ordinary” people learn that we can achieve great things in cooperation with others.
( )12.What can we learn about Jessica Watson
A.She was criticized by the government.
B.She eventually canceled her voyage.
C.She has travelled around Australia.
D.She made a successful voyage.
( )13.What can be inferred about teenagers from the text
A.They have similar abilities.
B.They make decisions on their own.
C.They always make wrong judgments.
D.They need support of responsible adults.
( )14.Who does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 3 refer to
A.Parents. B.Teenagers.
C.Psychologists. D.Adults.
( )15.What is the best title for the text
A.Divided Opinions on Young Adventurers
B.Problems Faced by Adventurous Teens
C.Various Ways to Become Independent
D.Pressure to Achieve Personal Goals

One of the most popular vacation destinations for young families is the home of relatives.
__16__ Here are some tips for making sure you are invited back again.
Be Considerate
Every family has their own way of doing things. Keep these things in mind when you’re visiting. If your host family are early to bed and early to rise, don’t keep them up talking until one o’clock in the morning.
If your host family gets angry about kids running wildly, either plan to keep a close eye on your kids or plan to stay somewhere else. __17__
Offer to Help out
Playing host to a family with children can be quite a challenge. Make sure you help lighten the load.
__18__ Offer to help with cooking and cleanup. Make your beds and run to the store for milk. Better yet, don’t ask. Just start working.
Help Pay for Food
This may not apply, if you’re visiting parents and they insist on paying for everything and they can afford it. __19__ Use your judgment when it comes to staying with parents. However, if you’re visiting cousins, it will be a great help to them if you buy your share of the food.
Show Your Appreciation
No matter whom you are visiting, make sure you let them know you appreciate their hospitality. __20__ Or leave some fresh flowers when you leave. If you don’t have enough money, write them a letter, letting them know how much fun you had and how much you appreciate them.
A.Don’t expect your hosts to supply your every need.
B.Offer to take them out to dinner on your last night in the town.
C.Make sure you don’t leave your things behind while visiting a family.
D.In that case, you may hurt your parents if you insist on paying for food.
E.Try not to disturb someone who is in the middle of exams.
F.Staying with relatives is a great way to save money while getting away from home for a while.
G.Having a talk with your children about expected behaviour while visiting is always a good idea.

Sometimes I really doubt whether there is love between my parents. Every day they are very busy trying to earn money in order to pay the high tuition for my brother and me. They don’t act in the romantic ways that I read in books or I see on TV. In their opinion, “I love you” is too luxurious for them to say. Sending flowers to each other on Valentine’s Day is even more out of the question. Finally, my father has a bad temper. When he’s very tired from the hard work, it is easy for him to lose his temper.
One day my mother was sewing a quilt. I silently sat down beside her and looked at her.
“Mom, I have a question to ask you,” I said after a while.
“What?” she replied, still doing her work.
“Is there love between you and Dad?” I asked her in a very low voice.
My mother stopped her work and raised her head with surprise in her eyes. She did not answer immediately. Then she bowed her head and continued to sew the quilt.
I was very worried because I thought I had hurt her. I was in a great embarrassment and I did not know what I should do. But at last I heard my mother say the following words.
“Susan,” she said thoughtfully, “look at these thread. Sometimes it appears but most of it disappears in the quilt. The thread really makes them quite strong and durable. If life is a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can hardly be seen anywhere or anytime, but it’s really there. Love is inside. ”

C.Various Ways to Become Independent
D.Pressure to Achieve Personal Goals
根据第一段第四句“For example,Jessica Watson was asked by the government to cancel her voyage, yet the Prime Minister called her ’a hero for young Australians’ when she returned. ”可知,政府要求Jessica Watson取消航行,但在她返回时总理称她为“澳大利亚年轻人的英雄”。由此可知,Jessica Watson进行了一次成功的航行。故选D。
13.D 推理判断题。根据第二段最后两句“The amount of independence that each is allowed should be determined not simply by their age…by winning the confidence of hard-headed and well-qualified adult supporters. ”可知,青少年需要负责任的成年人的支持。故选D。
14.B 词义猜测题。根据第三段画线词所在句子以及上文 “But it’s also wrong to think that any 16-year-old can desire to get achievements as unusual as Jessica Watson’s …great achievements”可知,认为任何16岁的青少年都渴望获得和Jessica Watson一样不寻常的成就也是错误的。
故选A。

注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
I listened carefully but I couldn’t understand her until the next spring when my father suddenly got sick seriously. _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The doctor had said my father would recover in two months. ____________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
I listened carefully but I couldn’t understand her until the next spring when my father suddenly got sick seriously. My mother had to stay with him in the hospital for a month. When they returned, they both looked very pale. Every day in the morning and dusk, my mother helped my father walk slowly on the country road. My father had never been so gentle. It seemed they were the most harmonious couple. The sun gently glistened through the leaves, which made up the most beautiful picture in the world.
The doctor had said my father would recover in two months. But after two months he still couldn’t walk alone. All of us were worried about him. One day, he told me gently, “Susan, to be honest, I just like walking with your mom. ” Reading his eyes, I know he loves mom deeply. Once I thought love meant flowers, gifts and sweet kisses. But now I understand love is just a thread in the quilt of our life. Love is inside, making life strong and warm.
