“You should get a cat, ”my therapist(治疗专家)said. “A cat ” I couldn’t even look after myself. . I took a deep breath and carefully considered the idea of welcoming a feline (猫科的)friend into my life. This seemed like too easy a fix for the fact that I couldn’t leave the house without bursting into tears.
When my partner and I found Cinnamon, her adoption profile made her out as the perfect kitten. We filled out the paperwork and prepared for her arrival.
When she came home, it became increasingly obvious that Cinnamon didn’t understand “no”, “stop it” or “don’t do that”. She was the worst cat I’ve ever owned. I was beginning to doubt my therapist’s advice.
After visiting our vet, she concluded that Cinnamon just wanted our attention. She fought tooth and nail to get a bite of our meals. She’d fearlessly lick sharp knives when left unattended for a split second. Cinnamon stole my heart with her bravery and kept me busier than I’d ever expected.
We decided to start taking her for walks. I could barely leave the house before, but my heart couldn’t say no to Cinnamon. Cinnamon showed me what bravery looked like. She didn’t stop to consider every possible outcome of a situation; she simply went for it. If there was a dog at a park, she would run toward it. She jumped without knowing where she would land. She loved adventure. I found myself mirroring her behavior after a while, jumping out of bed without a second thought. I began to find the motivation to get out of bed in the morning.
Cinnamon unfortunately passed away after a medical accident. I’m no stranger to sadness or grief, but losing my pet so suddenly was the most confusing emotional experience I’ve had to date. She no longer wakes me up at 5 am begging for breakfast, but she’s still the reason I get up every morning.
Our time is often cut unpredictably, unmistakably short. It would be a shame to live life being anything less than brave and adventurous.
24. Why did the author’s therapist recommend that she get a cat

26. What can be inferred from the text
A. Walking Cinnamon outdoors became an adventure for the author.
B. The author was positively affected by Cinnamon’s courageous behavior.
C. Cinnamon loved going outside and took consequences into consideration.
D. The author decided to take Cinnamon outside as she was too troublesome to stay in.
27. What did the author want to convey in this text
A. Life is short and unpredictable. B. The loss of a pet can be painful.

When you choose a friend, you should be very careful. A good friend can help you study. You can have fun together and make each other happy. Sometimes you will meet fair weather friends. They will be with you as long as you have money or luck, but when you are down, they will run away. How do I know when I have found a good friend I look for certain qualities in his character, such as understanding, honesty and reliability (可靠).
Above all else, I look for understanding in a friend. A good friend tries to understand how another person is feeling. He won't be quick to judge.Instead, he will put himself in the other person's shoes, and he tries to think of ways to be helpful. He is also a good listener.
At the same time, however, a good friend is honest. When he finds he makes mistakes, he will admit them and fix them. You can always have open conversations to express yourselves. In short, good friends will be honest to each other and accept each other.
Another quality of a friend is reliability. I can always depend on a good friend. If he tells me he will meet me somewhere at a certain time, I can be sure that he will be there. If I need a favor, he will do his best to help me. If I am in trouble, he will not run away from me.
In addition to above all, there is a fourth quality that makes a friend special. A special friend is someone with whom we can have fun. He likes to do the same things as me. We share experience and learn from each other. Then we can enjoy our lives and our friendship.
When I meet someone who has these qualities, I know I've found a good friend!
28. What may happen to us if we have fair weather friends
A. We will become rich.
B. We can be sure that we get real friends.
C. We will be refused when we get into trouble.
D. They will give us all they have when we need help.
29. Which of the following qualities the writer thinks is the most important in choosing a friend
A. Honesty. B. Understanding. C. Reliability. D. A sense of humor.
30. What should good friends do
A. Lend a helping hand when needed. B. Be helpful to each other's career.
C. Always point out each other's mistakes. D. Have money or luck.
31. What does this passage mainly discuss
A. The importance of having a friend. B. Where to choose friends.
C. How to get along with friends. D. The qualities of a good friend.
D
In Yakutia, Siberia, temperatures drop to as low as -71℃. It is actually one of the coldest places on earth. Located a few hundred miles outside the Arctic Circle, The Republic of Sakha, also known as Yakutiya or Yakut-Sakhat, is now the largest republic in Russia.
Fur(毛皮) hats and thick coats are surely required. Thick fur boots, gloves, and anything else to avoid frostbite is highly encouraged.
People of Yakutia are so used to the cold that they even have an open air market where they can shop for meat and fish. The best part is that they don’t need those huge freezers to keep the meat. Sellers remain outdoors for the entire day in the freezing winds.
And if you think there’s no way to have fun in such a tough environment, think again. They love ice fishing and ice swimming. They actually take off all their clothes and put on their swimwear before swimming in the freezing waters.
It’s so cold outside that some people don’t need freezers anymore. Pipes are left outside as well since they cannot be laid out under the ground because of the hard soil. Other people make do with blocks of ice that they cut from the rivers for free water. Toilet duties are handled outside. Just be sure to do everything quickly.
It’s not always freezing as summer can hit +40℃ though it is short and dry. It is among the coldest cities in the world. Visitors need to do a lot of research and preparations before spending a few days in Yakutia, though it certainly is an interesting place to experience!
32. What can be learned from paragraph 1
A. Yakutia is larger than Russia.
B. Yakutia is actually the coldest place on earth.
C. The temperature in Yakutia is always -71℃ in winter.
D. Yakutia is located a few hundred miles outside the Arctic Circle.
33. What does the underlined word “frostbite” in paragraph 2 refer to
A. Frozen injury. B. High fever.
C. Going out. D. Falling down because of icy road.
34. What do people in Yakutia like to do for fun
A. Cut blocks of ice for water.
B. Sell fish and meat in open air.
C Go ice fishing and ice swimming.
D. Handle toilet duties outside quickly.
35. Where can the text be found
A. In a science report. B. On a tour website.
