66.One of My Favorite Apps
The rapid development of the Internet has brought more novel and convenient apps to our life.
Among the many apps, WeChat is my favorite app. It is convenient and multi-functional and is being widely used by almost everyone in our daily life. Apart from using it to chat with my friends online, I also regard it as a beneficial tool to gain the latest news and search for some learning materials. Whenever I want to practice my listening skills or do something else about study, WeChat is always my first choice.
Useful as it is, I find it difficult to live without it, which is undoubtedly terrible. So, I decide to take measures to better and reasonably exploit its potential.
67.One possible version:
Instead of giving me directions to the nearest shop, the young man asked me to wait for him there. He popped outside and disappeared in the dark quickly. I was wondering what he would do when he re appeared in about 15 minutes, out of breath and carrying a large bottle of water. You can' t imagine the relief that washed over me when I saw him, He gave me the bottle and asked me to give my husband some water quickly.
I handed him a 50 Dirham note (about 5 EUR) for the water. But he wouldn't accept any money for it despite my insistence. I was so thankful for that small gesture of kindness from a total stranger on a helpless night. I had been up all night worrying about my husband. The last thing I wanted to do was to walk through unfamiliar streets in the dark.

W: If I had enough space in my living room, I would buy it.
Text4:

M: Well, the costumes were terrible! And there was a tall man sitting in front of me. I couldn’t see half the time.
Text5:
M: I finished the novel Gone with the Wind that you gave me. It was really good! I wish our teachers could recommend more books like this in school!
W: Great! My grandmother read this book to me when I was young. I like it so much.
Text6:
M:What does your father grow, Alice
W:He grows potatoes and cabbages, and other things like that, but he grows more wheat than vegetables.
M:Yes, your father told me about that. What do you keep in that building
W:Cows. Would you like to see them It’s more modern than the house.
M:You’ve got a lovely house, Alice.
W:Yes, it was built almost 300 years ago. It’s very old-fashioned, but my parents don’t want to change it. They have lived here since 1958.
M:When are we going to get the house, Alice I want to go for a ride.
W:We’ll go there when we’ve seen everything here.

M: OK, OK. A big thing...We want to go on tour. We want to see the world. We want some fans.
W: I think you need to do this because you really love playing music.
M: Of course. We love playing together. It’s a lot fun. We want to tour. So, I am puzzled: should we, or shouldn’t we
W: When I was in a band, it was just because we loved playing together and we loved making music. And we didn’t care if we sold lots of records, or toured, or had fans. We just wanted to make music.
M: I appreciate that. Thanks.
Text9:
W: Hey, there. What can I do for you
M: I’m looking for an apartment or a house to rent for my wife and two kids.
W: Very good, sir. In this neighborhood, most of the houses have three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Apartments can range from 2-4 bedrooms and 2-3 bathrooms.
M: That’s interesting. Why is there so much variety in apartments but not houses
W: All the houses in this neighborhood were built in the 1950s. Back then, they were all considering a particular family size, so they all have a similar style.
M: I see. Well, we are looking for something that is clean and, most importantly, in a safe area. Our budget is about $2500 a month.
W: Well, this neighborhood is very safe, sir, so you’ll have no problems. But $2500 won’t really be able to get you a house or the bigger apartments, I’m afraid.
M: As long as there are two bedrooms, we’ll be fine.
W: Well, I’m seeing about a few places that meet your needs. If you don’t mind waiting until tomorrow afternoon, I can take you to look at them.
M: Great!
Text10:
W: I’m Lee Minwoo from South Korea. When I was little I was very interested in English. I learned English at school. There was a good teacher who was not a native English speaker. He taught French and German, but he really spoke English quite well. It was funny because I was the only student in his class — it was really a private lesson. I had an excellent coursebook. I still keep a copy of it. The front cover was red with a lovely picture, and it was very modern. Learning English was quite easy for me because the teacher was so good and he helped a lot. Also, I’m quite good at learning languages. It was really enjoyable to have classes. I loved the sound of the words. I felt really proud when my spelling improved day by day and I could read a short story. In middle school, English was still my favorite subject. I even stayed in America for one year as an exchange student. I learned a lot there, not only English but different cultures.泸县五中高2023级高一上期期末考试

New England holds some special museums. They are devoted largely or entirely to the work of just one person. And they are the artists’ birthplaces or onetime homes. Here are four examples of such museums.
Cyrus E. Dallin Art Museum
The name Cyrus E. Dallin (1861-1944) might not be familiar, but several of the artist’s sculptures (雕塑) are, especially those related to Native Americans. A good example is his “Appeal to the Great Spirit” standing in front of the Museum of Fine Arts. Born in Utah, he lived in Arlington for the final four decades of his life. The museum is in the Jefferson Cutter House, an 1830 Greek styled building.
Norman Rockwell Museum
Rockwell (1894-1978) was America’s well-known artist. The museum, founded in 1969, moved into its present location, Robert A.M. Stern-designed building in 1993. Its 998 paintings and drawings are the largest single collection of Rockwell's artworks.

People often go to cafes to relax themselves and keep themselves from falling asleep, but Mr. Healing, a popular cafe chain in South Korea actually does the opposite. Customers can come in, order a drink, lie down a comfortable massage(按摩)chair, and take a nap.
Many Koreans suffer from a lack of sleep as a result of overworking, so any opportunity to relax and even take a nap is greatly appreciated. Mr. Healing is the perfect place to go when you’re on a short work or school break and you need to catch up on sleep. The cafe offers massage periods in various modes, depending on how much time you have and how you choose to spend it.
The 20-minute session is priced at $ 3.5, the 30-minute massage costs $ 7, and the 50-minute session is $ 9, all of which also include a drink. Once you make your choice, you are taken to the “healing center”. You are asked to take off your shoes as well as any jewelry that might damage the chairs, after which you can choose a massage mode, from “stretch” or “sleep”. You can start with stretch for a few minutes, and then switch to sleep if you want to take a short nap. After it comes to an end, you are taken back to the cafe area to enjoy a coffee or one of the many other refreshing drinks on the menu.
Mr. Healing cafes are so popular in Korea that customers are advised to make reservations in advance to be sure that a massage chair is available. “I have to sit on a chair and stare at a computer monitor all day due to my job, the healing room was truly effective to relieve tiredness and stress from weekdays,” said Park Hye-sun, a 24-year-old officer.
Some have described Mr. Healing and other similar cafes in South Korea as simple fashions, but others see them as a sustainable business model, because they offer a service that Koreans really need.

Do you know how to prepare for and survive a major earthquake According to Department of Conservation scientists, it is important to have the right answer to that question.
How to Be Prepared
Electricity, water, gas(煤气) and telephones may not be working after an earthquake. The police and fire departments are likely to be tied up. You should be prepared to fend for yourself for at least three days, preferably for a week. You’ll need food, water and so on. It’s also a good idea to decide ahead of time how and where your family will reunite if separated during a quake. You might choose an out-of-the-area friend or relative that family members can call to check on you.
If you’re indoors, stay there. Get under a desk or table. The kitchen is a particularly dangerous spot. If you’re in an office building, stay away from windows and outside walls and do not use the elevator. If you’re outside, get into the open. Stay clear of buildings, power lines or anything else that could fall on you. If you’re driving, move the car out of traffic and stop. Avoid parking under or on bridges or overpasses.
After an Earthquake
Check for fire. If you smell gas, shut off the main gas valve(阀). If there’s sign of damage to electrical wiring, shut off the power at the control box. If the phone is working, only use it in case of emergency (紧急情况).Avoid driving if possible to keep the streets clear for emergency vehicles. Be careful that things may fall out of cupboards when the door is opened, and also that chimneys can be weakened and fall with just a touch. Listen to the radio for important information and instructions. Remember that aftershocks, sometimes large enough to cause damage in their own right ,generally follow large quakes. If you leave home, leave a message telling your friends and family your location.
28.What is advised to do before an earthquake
A.Making a date with your family the way of reuniting.
B.Preparing enough food for more than a week.
C.Making sure of your telephones in hand.
D.Calling your distant relatives to help.

Machine learning is a way of teaching computers to do tasks. In the past, to do anything computers depended on detailed, step-by-step instructions written by a person. But with machine learning, computers pick up new skills on their own, using examples or experience. This makes machine learning a powerful form of artificial intelligence, or AI. AI is the ability of a machine to think or learn like a person. AI systems power many kinds of machines—from smartphones to robots.
There are a few types of machine learning. The most common is supervised (监督) learning. In this method, a computer is fed lots of labeled (标记的) training data. For example, it may look at many photos of dogs. Each photo might be labeled with the dog’s breed (品种). By studying those photos, the computer learns what each breed looks like. Then, the computer can pick out dog breeds in new, unlabeled photos. The more data the computer studies, the better it gets at its task.
Another important kind of machine learning is reinforcement (强化) learning. Using this type of learning is kind of like training your dog. The computer learns to achieve some goal by interacting (互动) with its environment. When the computer makes a choice that brings it closer to its goal, it gets a virtual reward (虚拟奖励). Through trial and error, the computer learns to make better choices. This type of machine learning has helped computers master difficult games like Go and StarCraft Ⅱ. It has also been used to teach self-driving cars how to get around.
Machine learning has helped create technology all around us. It powers language translators and search engines. Machine learning systems also organise posts in social media (社交媒体) feeds. They even help diagnose (诊断) diseases. In many ways, the problem-solving power of machine learning is reshaping the world.
32.What does the underlined phrase “pick up” in paragraph 1 probably mean
A.Beg. B.Explore. C.Require. D.Master.
33.Why does the author mention dog training in paragraph 3
A.To encourage self-learning. B.To show the love for dogs.
C.To explain an idea clearly. D.To voice his views on AI.
34.Which word best describes the author’s attitude towards machine learning
A.Positive. B.Disagreeable. C.Doubtful. D.Uncaring.
35.What can we learn about machine learning
A.It’s different from AI technology. B.It makes us further know dog’s breed.
C.It will take place of human translator. D.It has been applied widely in daily life.

Listening is an important but difficult part for middle school students in English exams. The following suggestions may benefit you a lot.
Relax yourself
Before listening, it’s necessary to have a peaceful state of mind. 36 If that doesn’t work, drinking some water or washing your face with cold water may help you to some extent.
37
As soon as the listening starts, focus on it without thinking about anything else. While listening, you can also recall the related knowledge in common with the material concerned, such as the vocabulary about the subject or topic, which is beneficial to your better understanding.
Grasp the main idea
Sometimes the monologue, dialogue or conversation you’re listening to is a little bit longer than you expect. And it’s normal that some unnecessary information is included. However, you don’t need to understand it completely. 38
Ignore the new words
Without doubt, there usually exist unfamiliar words in listening materials. In fact, it’s almost impossible for you to know or understand all the words in the listening material sometimes. 39 It’s mistaken to waste much time on figuring them out while listening.
Develop the habit of taking notes

A.Focus on listening.
B.The more words you memorize, the better it is.
C.Feeling nervous or worried is harmful and unnecessary.
D.What you need to do is turn a deaf ear to the new words.

My husband and I got to experience a total stranger's kindness and generosity first-hand during a 10-day trip across the High Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert.
On our second-to-last day in Morocco, we happily took a trip to Essaouira, an old and beautiful seaside town on the Atlantic. During the journey there, we stopped at an Argan co-operative(合作社), where we got to taste some Argan oil and honey. After that, we headed where we stayed. We arrived at our small guesthouse in Essaouira at around dinnertime, and on our way to a local restaurants my husband started to feel unwell. He went back to our guesthouse while I had dinner with some friends.
When I got back to our guesthouse after dinner, I found my husband sitting on the bathroom floor, looking very pale. He had been sick about six times in an hour. He spent the rest of the night in the bathroom, getting very familiar with the house's pipe. Our main suspect was the Argan honey—it probably didn't agree with him.
At about 6 a. m., my husband finally managed to leave the bathroom and crawl into bed. He was very weak and dehydrated(脱水的),so I went down to the reception to buy a bottle of water. When I got to the lobby(门厅),I found a young man behind the desk, who didn't look older than 18, and explained to him that my husband was sick and I needed to buy some bottled water for him.
Our house was very small and basic and didn't have a restaurant or cafe. The young man informed me that they didn't sell any drinks at the house, so I asked him where the nearest shop was.
I looked out the window and my heart started to race. I didn't fancy risking going into the unfamiliar streets of the Medina in the dark, all by myself. In fact, I was afraid of it.
