Air-crash investigators Larry Vance and Anthony Brickhouse have details from certain jobs rooted in their memories. They could tell exact dates, locations, and fight numbers effortlessly. Vance’s “big one” is Swiss Air Flight 11 in 1998. He was put in the position of dealing with all the families from very early on, many of whom held the hope that their relatives could have survived. All 229 passengers and crew died. Burning fabric; burning flesh. The smell catches in your throat, and stays in your mind long after you’ve left the scene. Investigations can take anywhere from days to years.
“What can affect people in these jobs is the ongoing emotional damage,” said Vivien Lee, a psychologist. But mental health assistance is often lacking within the industry. Evidence suggests that investigators. like first responders, can suffer from negative emotional effects, including frequent thoughts and PTSD
“One emotion of losing relatives is anger,” Brickhouse reflected. “And they’re looking to you to figure out what happened to their loved ones.” Depending on the size of the crash, that anger can come alongside a lot of international media attention.”
But more often, Vance said, the questions he faces are perhaps even tougher to answer than what caused the crash. “How did my loved one die What were they feeling What were they seeing ” And tougher still: “Were they suffering ”
Listening to the black box recordings takes an emotional damage. He said it was more unbearable by knowing that he’s listening to the final minutes of someone’s life. Some people in his industry listen to a black box recording once and choose to never do it again, he said.
The knowledge that they’re doing an essential job can make the tougher aspects of the work a little easier. “The end result of your work is that you try to make the world a safer place, so that this doesn’t happen to somebody else,” Vance said.
28. What can be inferred about the air-crash investigators
A. They often get throat problems
B. They must have good memories.
C. They experienced the same accident.
D. They have to face many challenges.
29. What should be done to help the air-crash investigators
A. Helping them avoid air crashes. B. Sending first respondents with them.
C. Offering qualified psychologists D. Teaching them how to communicate.
30. Which of the following statements is true, according to Vance’s words
A. Making the world a safer place takes time.
B. Answering the relatives’ questions is tougher.
C. Investigating the cause of the crash is bearable.
D. Finding the black box takes an emotional damage.
31. Which word can be used to describe the air-crash investigators
A. Self-giving. B. Easy-going. C. Generous. D. Independent.

When James Haskell started playing professional rugby football, technology’ influence was very limited. One of its first and important uses within the game, he says, was just urine testing (尿检). “A lot has changed since then. Now all the players wear GPS heart-rate monitors,” the former England and Wasps ruby union player says. Data and technology have become important parts of a professional sports team and its players’ lives, Haskell says.
But this is only the beginning.
“New 5G will bring a whole set of new devices to the sports industry and the connectivity of supply chains that isn’t possible today,” explains Scott Petty, the chief technology officer of Vodafone UK. Vodafone’s recent research shows 70 per cent of decision-makers in the sports industry believe it is behind other industries in, adopting new technology.
However, things are changing gradually. The research suggests that 76 per cent of sports leaders say new 5G technology will drive innovation within their organizations. According to research, sport is an area where new 5G will have a huge impact. It has the ability to transform the fan experience and help athletes improve their fitness and training programmes. Around 74 per cent of sports leaders believe 5G will help meet rising fan expectations.
Haskell is looking forward to seeing what 5G will enable in the future. Vodafone’s new 5G network was launched (推出) in July. At the launch, two Wasps players demonstrated an innovative use of the tech when they conducted a joint training session, despite being 100 miles apart. At an event in London, Will Rowlands (擒抱摔倒) tackled a bag and almost at the same time, through wearable devices, De Jongh felt the force of the tackle.
Going forwards, Haskell expects that players will be able to quantify (量化) their performance in new ways. The key to this The ability to read real-time data and make training programmes completely personalized.
Haskell says, “This ability will be terrific and you’ll suddenly be able to quantify everything!”
This will be game-changing.
32. What does Haskell say about the early use of technology in rugby football
A. It mainly focused on performance data collecting.
B. It changed his attitude towards rugby football.
C. It excited people’s attention to rugby football.
D. It made an impact only to a small extent.
33. What can we learn from Vodafone’s recent research
A. The sports industry should find a new way to meet fan expectations.

A. It was a real success. B It raised doubts among players.
C. It made Vodafone world-famous. D. It fell far short of the expectations.
35. What does the underlined word “terrific” in paragraph7mean?
A. Unnecessary. B. Impressive. C. Unique. D. Impossible.

Learn a new language and, at some point, you’ll meet native speakers that have you questioning your language abilities. 36 And what’s that slang (俚语) they’re using ! If this sounds all too familiar to you, then welcome! You’ve leveled up to a new stage of language learning best known as the dialect. The differences between a dialect and a language have a number of technicalities and exceptions tied to them. But as a language learner, you’re probably more interested in the practical takeaway.
37 . We can see how the standard elements of English change across the US, the UK, and even Singapore, where Singlish exists as a hyper-regional dialect of English.
The first thing you’ll notice about each English dialect is the shift in pronunciation. This shift, better known as an accent, is an important element of a dialect. 38 . Don’t worry too much about this. What’s important is that you’re able to identify differences during conversations and feel comfortable adapting to them.
Studies show that children who primarily speak a dialect are hyper-aware of the differences, and are able to reach reading and writing goals more quickly as a result. 39 Learning a dialect, rather than just the standard language, requires a deeper dig into cultural nuances (细微差异) that aren’t lost on native speakers. In short: Learning a dialect shows that you care! It’s an incredible way to connect with new cultural communities in the process.
Before you learn a dialect, you should have a firm grasp of the fundamentals of a “standard” language. That way, you’ll be able to gain meaning through context. 40 Movies, music, books, and news are all fantastic ways to pick up on those dialectical nuances.
A. Then, enlarge your exposure.
B. There’re many varieties of English.
How does their accent sound so different
D. But accent isn’t always necessary to a dialect.
E. Dialects also allow you to build deeper connections.
K. Some people are good at shifting between different accents.
G. Dialects are often closely tied with geographical boundaries.

Miss Clare patted him and encouraged, “An apology never comes late.” Hearing this, Frank raised his eyebrows and said sincerely, “I shouldn’t have said that. Sorry.” Emily looked down at her skateboard, wiped her tears and murmured, “Actually, that’s OK.” spinning the loose wheel.

You know, I didn’t go anywhere either this summer,” he said. Then they three looked at each other and burst into laughter. 32. 根据第一段第I句“When James Haskell started playing professional rugby football, technology’ influence was very limited. One of its first and important uses within the game, he says, was just urine testing (尿检).”
根据第四段第2句“The research suggests that 76 per cent of sports leaders say new 5G technology will drive innovation within their organizations.”
34. A 推理判断题,根据第五段第3和第4句话“At the launch, two Wasps players demonstrated an innovative use of the tech when they conducted a joint training session, despite being 100 miles apart. At an event in London, Will Rowlands tackled (擒抱摔倒) a bag and almost at the same time, through wearable devices, De Jongh felt the force of the tackle.”
据第六段最后一句“The ability to read real-time data and make training programmes completely personalized.”,以及最后的一段“This will be game-changing.”
根据前文“native speakers that have you questioning your language abilities”以及后文“You’ve leveled up to a new stage of language learning best known as the dialect.” 与此同时,根据36题空后的“And what’s that slang (俚语) they’re using !”
第二段后续内容“We can see how the standard elements of English change across the US, the UK, and even Singapore, where Singlish exists as a hyper-regional dialect of English.”

Text 10
M: American students have experienced a worldwide health crisis, nationwide protests and school closings and restrictions over the past two years. But art classes in schools have helped some students deal with their emotions and difficulties.
Art classes like painting, music and acting classes, provide a way for students to express themselves.
“I remember that students felt comfortable only in the band room,” said Gary Mayne, who is a behavioral expert and former music teacher.
Some experts say art classes provide a way to teach social and emotional learning. Social and emotional learning deals with finding a way for students to control their emotions, have relationships with others and show empathy. Many schools place a lot of attention on social and emotional learning. This could be because students’ mental health has become more of a concern following the coronavirus pandemic.
“Art educators, they see kids for multiple years,” Maurice Elias told Chalkbeat, a non-profit news provider. Elias is head of the Rutgers University Social-Emotional and Character Development Lab in New Jersey. “They build strong relationships and connections with the kids. They have a tremendous influence on their mental health. “
Sarah Potpinka teaches eight subjects as the only art teacher at Putnam High School in Connecticut. When classes went online, she asked her student to take pictures of how their lives had changed during the pandemic. Many of her students’ works were filled with anger.
