As a rule, a child who has once been happy with a tale likes to have it retold in almost the same words, but this should not lead parents to treat printed fairy stories as formal texts. It is always much better to tell a story than read it out of a book, and, if a parent can produce what, in the actual situation of the time and the child, is an improvement on the printed text, so much the better.
A charge made against fairy tales is that they harm the child by frightening him or making him sad thinking. To prove the latter, one would have to show in a controlled experiment that children who have read fairy stories were more often sorry for cruelty than those who had not. As to fears, there are, I think, some cases of children being dangerously terrified by some fairy stories. Often, however, this arises from the child having heard the story once. Familiarity with the story by repetition turns the pain of fear into the pleasure of a fear faced and mastered.
There are also people who object to fairy stories on the grounds that they are not objectively true, that giants, witches, two headed dragons, magic carpets, etc. do not exist; and that, instead of being fond of the strange side in fairy tales, the child should be taught to learn the reality by studying history. I find such people, I must say, so peculiar (奇怪的) that I do not know how to argue with them. If their case were sound, the world should be full of mad men attempting to fly from New York to Philadelphia on a stick or covering a telephone with kisses in the belief that it was their beloved girlfriend.
No fairy story ever declared to be a description of the real world and no clever child has ever believed that it was.
24.The author considers that a fairy story is more effective when ________.
A.it is repeated without any change B.it is treated as a joke
C.some changes are made to it by a parent D.it is set in the present
25.According to the passage, great fear can take place in a child when the story is ________.
A.in a realistic setting B.told in a different way
C.repeated too often D.heard for the first time
26.The advantage claimed for repeating fairy stories to young children is that it ________.
A.develops their power of memory
B.makes them less fearful
C.makes them believe there is more to be afraid of
D.encourages them not to have strange beliefs
27.One of the reasons why some people are not in favor of fairy tales is that ________.
A.they are full of history B.they make teachers of history difficult to teach
C.they are not interesting D.they are just made up of unreal stories
C
Teenagers who check social media for several hours a day are at the risk of developing ADHD (多动症), a study has concluded.
The research team, from the University of Southern California, tracked 2,600 teenagers aged 15 and 16. They asked them how many times they checked their phones and other digital devices for various reasons, and then monitored them for symptoms of ADHD. After two years, those who had checked their phones the most often were twice as likely as those who checked the least often to show signs of ADHD.
Writing in the JAMA medical journal, the scientists said, “Modern media devices immediately inform users when new text messages, social media postings, or videogame play invitations arrive. Exposure to such information may draw attention away from important tasks. Frequent distraction could interrupt the development of constant attention and organization skills.”
They believe constant access to instant entertainment also has an impact. Researcher Professor Adam Leventhal said all previous research had focused on the link between ADHD and televisions. “What's new is that previous studies on this topic were done many years ago, when social media, mobile phones, tablets and mobile apps didn't exist. We can say with confidence that teens who are exposed to higher levels of digital media are significantly more likely to develop ADHD symptoms in the future,” he said.
Leventhal believes the findings help fill a gap in understanding how new mobile media devices and seemingly limitless content pose a mental health risk for children. And the findings serve as a warning.
British scientists welcomed the findings. But Professor Andy Przybylski of the Oxford Internet Institute said, “The study relies on survey responses provided by the students in question. It is not clear if teachers or parents would rate the children similarly or if the self reported measure of digital screen use is related with either actual behavior or higher quality survey items.”
28.How did the researchers conduct the study
A.By monitoring 2,600 teenagers with ADHD.
B.By tracking the participants for two years.
C.By analyzing data from previous researches online.
D.By controlling different teens’time spent on social media.
29.What does Leventhal think of the exposure to higher levels of digital media
A.It will cause diverse ADHD symptoms.
B.It will create higher ADHD risks.
C.It will weaken teenagers' confidence.
D.It will have a major influence on organization skills.
30.What does Professor Andy Przybylski think of the study
A.It provides a better understanding of the media.
B.It should have focused on parents' responses.
C.Its findings are not reliable enough.
D.It's a breakthrough in this field.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.The Use of Digital Media Is on the Rise
B.Teens Are Increasingly Exposed to ADHD
C.Heavy Use of Social Media May Increase ADHD Risks
D.Teens' Exposure to Modern Media Calls More Attention
D
I watched my dad close the door. It was a really cold night in dead silence and I was all alone at home. My parents left because they had been running fever for several days and they were showing other symptoms of COVID 19. It was the 9th day of Wuhan lockdown starting on January 23.
The virus we now know as COVID 19 is somehow fearsome partly because it does not discriminate (区别对待) in choosing who it infects. But that is only partly true. All the evidence suggest that it can be merciless to older people, so I was wondering whether my parents would make__it and whether we would ever take family photos, which my parents and I had talked about during the Spring Festival holiday.
On their second day away my parents called and asked me how I was. We talked using FaceTime, and the moment I saw my mom lying there with an oxygen mask and my dad could not talk without breathing heavily, I realized that I had to live on my own.
But two weeks later, I came across a fever and had to go into quarantine (隔离) and be put under medical observations for 14 days. Fortunately, my illness turned out to be due to a bacterial infections but not COVID 19.
Everything there was hectic, and there seemed to be a shortage of medical staff and materials were in short supply. Even though the doctors and nurses were covered from head to toe, I could see how tired they were when I looked into their bloodshot eyes.
They would work a whole day preparing for new patients and seemed incredibly apologetic for not having everything that was needed. Most of the patients were really understanding, but of course there were those who were not, and complained loudly, but all the doctors and nurses tried their best to deal with it in a calming way. And they are all from other cities like Shanghai and Guangzhou, and some of them are just three or four years older than me.
When the quarantine was over, every patient effusively thanked the workers for what they had done, but the answer they received was exactly the same: “That's what we're here for.”
32.When did the author's parents leave her for the hospital
A.January 23. B.January 30. C.January 31. D.February 1.
33.What does the underlined phrase “make it” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.Succeed. B.Join in. C.Arrive. D.Survive.
34.What can we learn according to the passage
A.Both the author and her parents got infected with COVID 19.
B.The majority of the patients understood the doctors and nurses.
C.The patients apologized to the doctors and nurses because they were too tired.
D.The author didn't get infected with COVID 19 because the virus can only infect the older.
35.What does the author think of the medical workers according to the passage
A.Admirable. B.Outgoing. C.Impatient. D.Active.

Six orders an hour is the norm for the lunchtime rush, but Guo said he is sometimes called upon to deliver ten meals. “__40__ You just have to apologize,” he said.

On the morning of Jan. 25, the very day of the Chinese Lunar New Year, I was unpleasantly woken up by a phone call. It was for my father. He picked it up, and I sensed from his shaky voice that something went wrong.
As soon as he hung up, my father turned to my mother and then me, saying, “It was the secretary. He called everyone to meet in the office right now because of the outbreak of the COVID 19”.
“But dad, it's the Spring Festival!” How I wished my father could change his mind and stay with us. Wasn't the day meant for families to be together My father, an official working in another town, seldom came back home. And was the virus serious enough to keep us apart I was upset. To my great disappointment, my father left home without hesitation, comforting me by saying that he would be back soon.
In the following days, news loaded with the fast spread of COVID 19 and the astonishing death toll scared everyone in the country. Father never returned home, only occasionally talking on the WeChat, over which he told us how he went from door to door, checking every family and persuading people to stay at home. I realized that my father was working in dangerous conditions under incredibly great burden. He always looked tired but determined. Every time I told him to take care of himself,he would smile and say, “Don't worry, son. Your father is as strong as a bull. ” At those moments, tears would well up in my eyes, and all my complaints would go away before I could say anything. The talk was brief but meant a lot to me.
I learned from the media that the medical staff, government officials, and almost everyone involved were working in the battle against the COVID 19. It was these guardian angels (守护天使) who, despite the possibility of getting infected themselves, were risking their life so that the rest of us could be safe. Among them was my father. He's protecting the people, me included.

Text 10
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to our tour. Now we're on the way to some points of historical interest in the city. If you look out of the window on your right, you'll see the Grange, one of the oldest buildings in the city. It was built 200 years ago, and still has most of the old furniture. Perhaps the most interesting thing is that every Saturday afternoon, you can come and watch them bake bread the way it was done 200 years ago. On your left is a university building. This university building is just 125 years old. We'll be stopping in a quarter of an hour at Bridgetown Castle. It was built by Sir Henry Pellat for his young wife. He brought almost all of the building materials from England. Notice the beautiful glass windows. Unfortunately, Sir Henry's young wife became ill and died before the castle was completed. Sir Henry became so unhappy that he left the castle and returned to England. No family members have ever lived there.

由第二段的“As to fears, there are, I think, some cases of children being dangerously terrified by some fairy stories. Often, however, this arises from the child having heard the story once.”
由第二段中的“Familiarity with the story by repetition turns the pain of fear into the pleasure of a fear faced and mastered.”
根据第二段中的“After two years, those who had checked their phones the most often were twice as likely as those who checked the least often to show signs of ADHD.(两年后,那些最经常查看手机的人表现出多动症症状的可能性是那些最不经常查看手机的人的两倍。)”
根据第四段中的“We can say with confidence that teens who are exposed to higher levels of digital media are significantly more likely to develop ADHD symptoms in the future”可知,Leventhal认为频繁接触数字媒体的青少年在未来更有可能出现ADHD症状。
根据文章最后一句“It is not clear if teachers or parents would rate the children similarly or if the self reported measure of digital screen use is related with either actual behavior or higher quality survey items.”
根据第一段“Teenagers who check social media for several hours a day are at the risk of developing ADHD (多动症), a study has concluded.”
根据第一段中“My parents left because they had been running fever for several days and they were showing other symptoms of COVID 19. It was the 9th day of Wuhan lockdown starting on January 23.”
根据前面的“All the evidence suggest that it can be merciless to older people (所有的证据都表明它对老年人很残忍)”和后面的“whether we would ever take family photos, which my parents and I had talked about during the Spring Festival holiday (我们究竟是否能拍全家福,这是我父母和我在春节期间讨论过的)”可知,我想知道我的父母是否能“幸存”于这次疫情。
根据倒数第二段中“Most of the patients were really understanding, but of course there were those who were not, and complained loudly, but all the doctors and nurses tried their best to deal with it in a calming way.”
根据最后一段“When the quarantine was over, every patient effusively thanked the workers for what they had done, but the answer they received was exactly the same:‘That's what we're here for.’”

36.答案与解析:A 根据上文“After a quick handoff to the customer, he races down 20 flights.”
37.答案与解析:E 根据下文“Meals appear with just a few taps on a smartphone.(在手机上只需要轻点几下就可以点餐了。)”
38.答案与解析:B 根据上文“Sometimes, the buildings you deliver to don't have elevators.”和下文“Then, you have to climb ten flights of stairs.”
He joined Eleme only last year.”

be situated on“坐落在;位于”。
根据时间状语“since it was built in 2006”可知,用现在完成时。
