Language points
1.meeting可数名词,意为“会议”。go to a meeting 意为“去开会”,have a meeting意为“开会”,也可意为“会面;集会;运动会”。
2.organize动词,意为“组织”。其名词形式为organization,意为“组织”。organized意为“有计划的;有组织的”。
3.If we have it today,half the class won't come.如果我们今天举行,一半的学生不会来。
(1)half形容词,意为“一半的”,一般要放在冠词之前。
eg:Half the workers come from Hunan.一半的工人来自湖南。
【拓展】①half还可作名词,意为“半;一半”,其复数形式为halves。
eg:half an hour半小时;
two years and a half=two and a half years两年半
②half of+名词意为“半数的……”,此结构作主语时谓语动词和介词of后的名词在数上保持一致。
(2)class在本句中意为“班上的同学”,是一个集合名词。集合名词通常表示两种含义:一是表示整体,二是表示成员。表示整体时被视为单数,谓语动词用第三人称单数形式;表示成员时被视为复数,谓语动词用复数形式。
常见的集合名词还有police,family,team等。
eg:The class are all interested in English.同学们都对英语感兴趣。
Our class is on the fifth floor.我们班在5楼。
4....order some food from a restaurant.……从餐馆订餐。
order动词,意为“订购;订货;点菜”。
order sth. from...意为“从……订购某物”。
【拓展】order作动词,还可意为“命令;嘱咐”。
order sb. to do sth.意为“命令某人做某事”。
5.too...to...意为“太……而不能……”,too是副词,后跟形容词或副词原级,to是动词不定式符号,后跟动词原形。
eg:She's too young to go to school.
她太小而不能去上学。
