I read an amazing book over 15 years ago that changed my life. It was called “Eat That Frog! 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time”, written by Brian Tracy, a legend in the field of personal development. What he means is that you should start your working day by focusing on doing the hardest task of the day first, if you want to be successful.
I've worked on this very thing for years. Every morning, seven days a week, my alarm goes off at 3:59 a. m. I get up and get to work. Most days, it's writing 1,500 words for my newsletters (简讯) or next book. Accountability (负责) is one of the important habits in my life, and I can never abandon it. Having goals is good. Having a 90 day deadline is great.
When I work with clients, we don't stop at setting three process goals for 90 days. We dig deeper and go to the next level. I demand they come up with one big action step to take in the next 24 hours that will move them ahead to their 90 day goal. What is the most important action you can take in the next 24 hours to move you ahead in life and help you accomplish your 90 day goal So ask yourself this: What big action step can you take to get results and move ahead in the next 72 hours The next seven days Two weeks A month
A deadline can have the biggest initial impact on your success. But it's accountability that keeps it going. After all, you can have all the greatest advice in the world, but if you don't have accountability, you'll fall off the truck. For years, I have benefited from the wisdom. Accountability is important and I can never, ever abandon it.
21.What did the author benefit from
A.Writing newsletters.
B.A book about people's development.
C.Setting his alarm.
D.Having a 90 day deadline.
22.What's the author's job according to the second paragraph
A.A writer. B.A professor.
C.A teacher. D.A businessman.
23.What does the passage mainly talk about
A.If you work with others, a deadline plays an important part.
B.If you want to be wise, you should abandon your deadline.
C.If you intend to success, you should stick to accountability.
D.If you meet with great difficulty, you should change your plans.

If native speakers of English are not to become international corporate pariahs (被社会遗弃者), they will need to learn how to speak global English — in other words, to communicate with non native speakers.
Displeasure at the complexity of native speakers' English is widespread in international business. During a study carried out at Kone Elevators of Finland, one Finnish manager complained, “The British are the worst... It is much more difficult to understand their English than that of other nationalities. When we non native speakers of English talk, it is much easier to understand. We have the same limited vocabulary.”
How can native speakers of English make themselves easier to understand and more likeable The most obvious way is to learn someone else's language. The great benefit of learning other languages is that you have some idea of what non native speakers are up against. However, the news that fewer than half of English schoolchildren are learning a foreign language suggests that this is not going to be a profitable route for many.
So what should native English speakers do to make themselves better understood First, slow down, but not to the point where members of your audience think you are supporting them. Second, avoid idiomatic and metaphorical (比喻性的) expressions: that's the way the cookie crumbles, people who live in glass houses should not throw stones, and the like.
Jokes are a difficult area. You will not forget the silence that follows one that is found puzzling. On the other hand, when jokes work, they can be a huge success with a non native speaking audience. If you have learnt other languages, you will know that very few achievements are as satisfying as understanding your first foreign joke. Try a few out with your non native speaking audience; you will soon learn which ones are worth repeating.
It is often unnecessary to avoid long words such as “association” and “nationality”, which are common to the Romance languages and will be widely understood in Europe and Latin America.
Listen to verbal responses for signs of whether you have been understood or not. Make sure your non native speaking colleagues have the chance to talk; they will often be rephrasing your words in an attempt to satisfy themselves that they have grasped (理解) what you said.
Always remember that the greatest friend of the non native speakers is repetition. Find more than one way of getting your point across and summarize frequently.
24.The example of one Finnish manager in the second paragraph means that ________.
A.speakers of other languages are friendlier than English speakers
B.it's difficult to completely understand native English
C.English has the same limited vocabulary as other languages
D.English is the most difficult to speak among all the languages
25.The following are the best ways for native speakers of English to make themselves more comprehensible EXCEPT ________.
A.decreasing the vocabulary of English
B.slowing down the speed of speaking English properly
C.avoiding using metaphorical expressions
D.trying to tell some jokes
26.Why does a non native speaker rephrase your words
A.They want to keep them in mind.
B.They don't understand them.
C.They wish to draw more attention.
D.They want to express they have understood.
27.What does this passage mainly show us
A.The complexity of English.
B.How native speakers of English learn English.
C.How native speakers of English improve themselves.
D.English is getting more and more important.
C
Since 1964, colleges and universities in the U. S. have used Test of English as a Foreign Language, or TOEFL, to measure an international applicant's level of English. Universities in English speaking European countries began using the International English Language Testing System, or IELTS, in 1989. These two tests have been the main choices for English ability testing in higher education admissions for international students until now.
In recent years, several companies have developed new English language tests that are low cost and easy to use. And they aim to do more than just offer greater choice in the admissions process.
Founded in 2012, Duolingo creates software that teaches users many different languages, including English. In 2014, the company launched its own test of English language ability.
Jennifer Dewar works with Duolingo, helping to develop the test. She formerly worked as an admissions official at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. The school is one of hundreds of colleges, universities and other organizations in and outside the U. S. that now accept the test results for international admissions into their study programs.
Dewar says Duolingo created the test to lower the barriers to higher education for people worldwide, especially those in developing countries.
TOEFL and the IELTS cost about $ 300. They are given in a limited number of centers around the world. Some test takers have to travel to take the tests, adding to the costs. Duolingo offers its test entirely over the Internet for $ 49. All test takers need is access to a computer with a microphone, listening device and self facing camera.
TOEFL, the IELTS and Duolingo measure a person's English reading, listening, speaking and writing abilities. But it takes about 45 minutes to complete a Duolingo test, compared to three or four hours for TOEFL or the IELTS. It is possible because Duolingo uses artificial intelligence (人工智能) to test test takers' abilities, using fewer questions to measure their skills.
28.Why were TOEFL and the IELTS set up
A.To make people understand English speaking countries.
B.To help teachers to teach in colleges and universities in Europe.
C.To test an international applicant's level of English.
D.To help international applicants to improve their English.
29.When did Duolingo begin to use its own test of English language ability
A.In 1964. B.In 1989. C.In 2012. D.In 2014.
30.Compared to TOEFL and the IELTS, Duolingo is ________.
A.widely used in English tests
B.a less difficult test
C.affordable and convenient
D.a face to face test
31.What is the author's purpose in writing the text
A.To introduce Duolingo.
B.To instruct us how to pass English tests.
C.To introduce overseas studying.
D.To promote English teaching.

Store Scent (香味)
What is the first thing you notice when you walk into a shop The products displayed (展示) at the entrance Or the soft background music
But have you ever noticed the smell Unless it is bad, the answer is likely to be no. But while a shop's scent may not be outstanding compared with sights and sounds, it is certainly there. And it is proving to be an increasingly powerful tool in encouraging people to purchase.
A brand store has become famous for its distinctive scent which floats through the fairly dark hall and out to the entrance, via scent machines. A smell may be attractive but it may not just be used for freshening air. One sports goods company once reported that when it first introduced scent into its stores, customers' intention to purchase increased by 80 percent.
When it comes to the best shopping streets in Paris, scent is just as important to a brand's success as the quality of its window displays and goods on sale. That is mainly because shopping is a very different experience to what it used to be.
Some years ago, the focus for brand name shopping was on a few people with sales assistants' disproving attitude and don't touch what you can't afford displays. Now the rise of electronic commerce (e commerce) has opened up famous brands to a wider audience. But while e shops can use sights and sounds, only bricks and mortar stores (实体店) can offer a full experience from the minute customers step through the door to the moment they leave. Another brand store seeks to be much more than a shop, but rather a destination. And scent is just one way to achieve this.
Now, a famous store uses complex man made smell to make sure that the soft scent of baby powder floats through the kid department, and coconut (椰子) scent in the swimsuit section. A department store has even opened a new lab, inviting customers on a journey into the store's windows to smell books, pots and drawers, in search of their perfect scent.
32.According to the passage, what is an increasingly powerful tool in the success of some brand stores
A.Friendly assistants.
B.Unique scents.
C.Soft background music.
D.Attractive window display.
33.E shops are mentioned in the passage to ________.
A.show the advantages of bricks and mortar stores
B.urge shop assistants to change their attitude
C.push stores to use sights and sounds
D.introduce the rise of e commerce
34.The underlined word “destination” in Paragraph 5 means ________.
A.a platform that exhibits goods
B.a spot where travelers like to stay
C.a place where customers love to go
D.a target that a store expects to meet
35.The main purpose of the passage is to ________.
A.compare and evaluate B.examine and assess
C.argue and discuss D.inform and explain

第二节 概要写作(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Many schools do not pay the right amount of attention to health education as it is often considered as an unimportant subject. And many parents are interested in the basic education of their teenagers — reading, writing and mathematics — but are not interested in the teaching of health. This is not right. Health education provides an introduction to the human body and to factors that improve or damage health. Knowing the knowledge about health can help students become healthy and live happily.
Health education does not only concentrate on being physically healthy. It also focuses on emotional health. Educating students on the importance of health builds their motivation (动力). As a result, they will try their best to keep in good health, prevent illness and avoid risky behavior. Letting students know the importance of good health in schools helps students make healthy life choices when they grow older and continue doing so throughout their lives. It helps them understand the danger of using drugs, smoking and drinking alcohol. It helps prevent various injuries and diseases.
Students these days are highly stressed. Being stressed to get better grades, to look good, to belong to the right groups and to dress right can all make for a stressful life. Once they complete their education, work stress can make the problem become worse. Family life can also add a large amount of stress to students' lives. Health education also concentrates on stress and helps students learn to handle pressure so that they can create a healthy and positive state of mind.
As teenagers, they may also not know how to manage their time. This prevents them from putting 100% of themselves into their tasks. For example, school tasks require strict time management, and students who are unable to manage time fall behind. Thus, health education is a necessary part of the education process. It can teach students to manage their time well in order to be more productive.

For eighty-four days, he has prepared his bait, lines and boat and headed out to the big blue ocean, only to return tired and empty-handed. Everything about him is old except his eyes, cheerful and undefeated, they are the same color as the sea.
While Santiago is preparing for his eighty-fifth try, a young boy named Manolin brings him some food and helps him prepare his tools. Manolin used to fish with Santiago, but has been forced by his parents to fish instead with a luckier boat. His parents, like everyone else, think it's only a waste of time to go fishing with the old man. However, the boy believes in Santiago, who taught him how to fish with all his rich knowledge about the sea. For Manolin, Santiago is like a father and teacher.
