After completing my first year of studies, I decided to relax by taking a trip through one of the most richly cultured countries in Asia:Nepal.
The first thing I noticed about Nepal was its people. Kind and friendly, ready to help someone in need. I'm saying so because of what I've witnessed between the citizens themselves, rather than how they treated me as a visitor. It is shown in the way bus conductors and passengers alike keep the bus waiting for that last passenger who is lagging behind (落后).It is evident in how a motorist smiles and waves off a kid who runs onto the street after his ball. The people are like a hot bowl of soup on a rainy day.
The first place I visited in Nepal was the Sauraha village in the district of Chitwan. It is an amazingly peaceful place, where the people live life at their own pace. It is a great area to see some of the wildlife, such as rhinos and elephants. The capital city of Kathmandu was where I spent most of my time. The city is usually very dusty, so make sure to wear a mask. Another great area in Kathmandu is the district of Thamel. Unlike most other districts,Thamel is very busy throughout the day. Out of all the places I've been to within Nepal, Pokhara is undoubtedly the best place to visit. There are a lot of fun things to try out. I've gone paragliding as well as boating in Fewa Lake, but you can also go rafting, zip flying and paramotoring.
Nepal is a very affordable destination to travel to.I travelled through the country for about two months, and spent a little over 500 US dollars.Accommodation around Nepal is inexpensive, mostly varying from about 500 to 1,500 rupees per night per person.During my stay in Kathmandu, I stayed at a great hotel for two weeks, for 300 rupees per night, which is a great deal.
In a word, Nepal is a fantastic place. Whether you are looking to relax in the wildness and peace of nature, or for an exciting new adventure, Nepal has a variety of choices to offer.
24.Why does the author mention bus conductors in paragraph 2
A.To thank them for all their hard work. B.To introduce Nepal's public transportation.
C.To explain Nepalese people's sense of time. D.To show the friendliness of Nepalese people.
25.What do we know about the Sauraha village
A.It is busy. B.It is dusty.
C.It offers visitors a lot of activities. D.It is a great place to see wild animals.
26.What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A.How much it costs to travel in Nepal. B.The places the author visited in Nepal.
C.What the author experienced in Kathmandu. D.The working people the author met in Kathmandu.
27.How does the author develop the passage
A.By following time order. B.By showing district differences.
C.By explaining people's behavior. D.By describing his own experiences.

[2023·山东省聊城市高二上学期联考]In a street largely unchanged since it was built in the 1800s, Hobart's Battery Point is probably the last place you would expect to find a farm.
In one corner of Peter Handy's backyard is a controlled environment unit that houses vertical pastures (垂直牧场), the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere (半球). Mr. Handy is changing the definition of what it means to be a farmer. “I know it's really funny, because when people say to me, ‘Where's your farm?’, I'll say ‘it's in Battery Point' and they're like,‘No, there's no farms in Battery Point',” he said “People think the Martians have landed because we've got this massive, big pink light that comes out of it from the bottom but other than that, they'd have no idea.”
Not just a backyard project, Mr. Handy is running a business. “It's here because I need to be as close to my customers, the chefs and restaurants of Hobart,” he said. “I aim to use the least amount of food miles as possible and make this a super efficient business.”
Using LED lights and hydroponic nutrients, the farm grows leafy greens, root vegetables and flowering plants. “I don't have to worry about floods, wind, wild animals, electric fences, turning the soil over,” Mr .Handy said. Using 95 percent less water than traditional farming, the farm ticks the box environmentally. “I mean, this is definitely not the answer to food sustainability in the world. But it's definitely a part of it.”
Science writer Julian Cribb believes a world food crisis is coming, due to a combination of loss of water, loss of topsoil, climate change and overuse of poisons. “We're going to need to change the nature of the way we produce food and change the human diet at the same time,” he said, “and new urban farming methods would see most of the world's great cities feeding themselves.”
Mr. Cribb said Australia was still quite a way off from adopting urban farming. But he believes that it poses a rather unique opportunity for Australian farmers to sell their expertise to cities, teaching people to grow food in urban environments.
28.What might people think of Mr. Handy's farm
A.Scared. B.Impressed. C.Disappointed. D.Confused.
29.What does Mr. Handy say about his farm
A.It is not affected by weather. B.It mainly plants and sells flowers.
C.It serves customers from near and far. D.It is the solution to food sustainability.
30.What's the purpose of Mr. Gribb's words in paragraph 5
A.To praise his contribution to science. B.To explain how urban farming works.
C.To stress the necessity of urban farming. D.To present the seriousness of the food crisis.
31.What's the passage mainly about
A.Cities are struggling to get food. B.Technology is changing people's life.
C.Peter Handy is a successful businessman. D.Food production is being moved into cities.

[2023·湖北省高二上学期联考]Germany's factories, which power Europe's economy, produced less during September than at any time in the past two years, which experts say could be an indicator of an approaching European recession (经济衰退).
The S & P Global Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index, or S&P Global PMI, found that Germany's manufacturing activity dropped to 47.8 in September, from 49.1 in August. The survey said the drop in factory output was due to customers either putting off or canceling orders because of fast rising prices caused by more expensive fuel bills.
Joe Hayes, a senior economist at S&P Global, said while the whole world is in the middle of a manufacturing decline, Europe appears to be at the slowdown's center. “Production fell at a rate which has only been larger during crisis periods,” Hayes told TheTelegraph. “New orders also fell at a rapid pace, reflecting the hesitancy among clients to buy goods at expensive prices.”
The analysis also showed that Europe's other manufacturing powerhouse, France, is struggling to remain competitive. The S&P Global PMI said French companies' order books shrank during September, with around one third of businesses reporting customers had canceled orders because of rising prices.
Phil Smith, an associate director at S&P Global, said Europe is experiencing “a continuous downturn”. He added that producers had been “coming under pressure from a deepening drop in demand as well as an energy led rise in cost inflation (通货膨胀)”.
32.What happened in Europe this September
A.Factories' efficiency rose in Europe. B.Factories' production dropped in Germany.
C.Customers' purchase continuously increased. D.Fuel bills' prices constantly decreased.
33.What is the possible reason for the fall
A.The whole world is experiencing recession. B.Factories fail to remain competitive.
C.Expensive fuel bills lead to a drop in demand. D.Customers hesitate to buy cheap goods.
34.What does the underlined word “shrank” mean in paragraph 4
A.Expanded. B.Faded. C.Changed. D.Decreased.
35.What is Phil Smith's attitude towards European economy
A.Negative. B.Hopeful. C.Positive. D.Unconcerned.

Shop at your local farmers' market
__37__. Shopping produce that is in season is a lot cheaper than buying produce that isn't, and the best place to know what's in season is at a farmers' market. To keep it simple and healthy, experts suggest having one source of protein in each meal, at least one vegetable and a whole grain. Making healthy meals in this way saves you time and money, and makes it easy to eat healthy.
Stock up on frozen produce
Buying frozen fruits and vegetables is a great way to eat healthy on a budget. Frozen produce less than fresh produce. Plus, fruits and vegetables will last a lot longer and usually can be chopped (切) and ready to go, so you don't have to spend time washing and cutting.__40__.
A.Cook at home
B.Eat less meat and dairy
C.Meal preparing doesn't have to be difficult
D.Make sure you use your produce fully and try not to waste anything

[2023·辽宁省鞍山市高二上学期测试]It was just another busy day until I met the boy on the bus. He was not a passenger like me. He was, what we call a street child, an 8 10 year old kid with a worn T shirt. These poorly dressed kids were seen almost everywhere in Dhaka city. But what was special about that boy was his face. There was “something” in him that caught my attention. That was an angelic(天使般的)baby face with little care.
He got straight into the bus as it stopped at a traffic light. The bus helper shouted at him in the first place. But instead of talking back, the boy kept silent and started handing out a piece of paper to all the passengers. What was written in the paper was, in short, that his father died a couple of years ago. His mother worked at houses. He badly needed money to help his family, so he wished someone warm hearted to buy chocolates from him.
This was nothing new to people who took a bus every day and I was no different. I had my earphones on, listening to some relaxing music to kill time. When he came to me to get the paper back, I casually gave him some money. Thankfully it brought some smiles on his face. He was about to give me ten chocolates in return for the money I gave to him when I stopped him.
“I don't like chocolates, brother. So there is no need of chocolates. You can have the money,” I said.
All of a sudden, the smile on his face disappeared.
“I'm not a beggar. Please take the chocolate, or take your money back.”
His straight answer greatly surprised me. I even felt he was slightly angry. I had given money to many kids before, without taking their chocolates. But this time something seemed different. I realized his angelic baby face was not the only thing special about him.

Text 10
Hello, everybody. Today I'll introduce when and how the supermarket came into being. The first supermarket was opened about 80 years ago. It was opened in New York by Michael J.Cullen.
Cullen was born in 1884 and died in 1936. He had worked as a shop assistant in a store for nearly 30 years. Then he thought of a better way of selling things. In 1929, he wrote a letter to his boss, the owner of the company he worked for.
In the letter, the 45 year old sales manager thought of the idea of creating supermarkets. In the supermarkets, prices were reduced on some products to encourage buying. Goods were to be placed on open shelves so that they could easily be reached. The advantages of the supermarkets could be advertised on radios and newspapers.
He never received a reply. He left the company and moved to New York. In the summer of 1930 he opened the nation's first supermarket in somebody's old garage. Its name was King Kullen. It had everything modern supermarkets have: separate departments, self service, discount pricing, and chain marketing.
Other King Kullen stores soon followed and in 1936 sales had reached $6 million from 17 stores.
Today,King Kullen remains a family owned business with 47 stores.
