[2023·河北省衡水市高二上学期期末]Later this month, Tate Britain will host its first Van Gogh exhibition since 1947. Here we've rounded up 4 of his best paintings before the show.
Potato Eaters
Potato Eaters was Van Gogh's first major work and, despite a distinct lack of colour, it was one that he was most proud of. His aim was to represent the difficulties of country life, so the farmers are painted in earthy tones with rough faces and bony hands. He was more concerned with conveying his message than achieving technical perfection in this painting.
Irises
Van Gogh finished almost 142 pieces during his stay in the Saint Remy de Provence asylum (精神病院), where he was a voluntary patient from 1889 to 1890. This piece was started shortly after he arrived there. The hospital garden provided much inspiration for the artist during his stay there. Originally, the flowers in this work were painted purple but the red pigment (色素) faded over time and has now turned blue.
Cafe Terrace at Night
Despite being painted more than 130 years ago, this cafe still exists in France and has since been renamed the Cafe Van Gogh. This artwork marks the first time Van Gogh's famous post impressionistic star filled sky was seen in a piece, and it was painted on the ground, in person, rather than from memory. While the artwork doesn't bear his signature, it's widely known to be Van Gogh's, as he mentioned Cafe Terrace at Night in a number of his letters.
Wheat Field With Cypresses
This piece was inspired by the view from Van Gogh's asylum window and was finished on the spot. The work was the title of three paintings that offer an insight into his stay at the hospital. Van Gogh was so pleased with the summer landscape that he made three copies there, one of the same size—which hangs in the National Gallery and two smaller copies which he planned to gift to his mother and sister.
21.Which painting did Vincent van Gogh take most pride in
A.Irises. B.Potato Eaters.
C.Cafe Terrace at Night. D.Wheat Field With Cypresses.
22.What is the original color of the flowers in Irises
A.Purple. B.Blue. C.Red. D.Yellow.
23.What do the last two paintings have in common
A.They were the same in size. B.They had more than one copy.
C.They were signed by the artist. D.They were painted on the ground.

[2023·鄂东南省级示范高二上学期联考]In a classroom in rural Kenya's Rift Valley, a student takes notes alongside her fellow classmates. She wears the same school uniform—a grey skirt and a green sweater. However, she is more than 80 years older than them. Priscilla Sitienei, who turned 99 years old on February 11, said she went back to class to set a good example for her great grandchildren and to start a new career. “I'd like to become a doctor because I used to be a midwife (助产士)”, she said, adding that her children were supportive of her decision.
Back in 2003, the government of the East African country began an education campaign to help to pay for the cost of primary schooling, allowing some older members of society who had missed out on education in their younger days to continue their dreams. This has given Sitienei more than an education. She's also become a film star. She traveled to Paris last year for the first showing of a film about her journey titled “Gogo”, which means “grandmother” in her native Kalenjin language. She'll also be heading to New York City soon for the launch of the film there.
Sitienei, who is in her sixth year of primary school, said her aims were far more practical than becoming a movie star. She had the idea when her great granddaughter dropped out of school after getting pregnant, “I jokingly asked her if she had any money remaining on her school fee and she said yes, so I told her that I'd use it to attend school.” She said she had hoped that her great granddaughter would continue with her studies. But when she refused, Sitienei decided to go to school herself.
Sitienei also enjoys other school activities, including physical education classes. “It keeps me fit. I get to jump around, even though not as much as they can do, but I at least move my body. That's my joy,” she said.
Her teachers use Sitienei's wide experience to keep the peace during lessons. “I appoint Sitienei to help control the class. And it works. When I go outside, the class remains silent,” said Leonida Talaam, her class teacher.
24.How does Priscilla Sitienei differ from her classmates
A.The learning approach. B. The dressing style.
C.Study efficiency. D. Physical age.
25.Why are Paris and New York City mentioned in paragraph 2
A.To show the daily routines of a film star.
B.To state Sitienei is really fond of traveling.
C.To indicate effects of the education campaign on Sitienei.
D.To explain the hard work it takes to make dreams come true.
26.Which word best describes Sitienei
A.Active. B.Passive. C.Independent. D.Intelligent.
27.What can be inferred about Sitienei from the last paragraph
A.She hates noise in class very much. B.She is a good helper to her class teacher.
C.She always enjoys staying in silence alone. D.She often replaces her teacher to give lessons.
C
[2023·河北省邢台市高二上学期第一次检测]“My daughters are dealing with friendship disagreements, school pressures and college application. My younger daughter sets her alarm for 5 a.m. to finish her homework before school begins,” says Cameron Gaeren, a mother in Chicago. Her daughters are not alone. A survey found that about 30% of the 1,018 teens surveyed reported feeling anxious or overwhelmed (不堪重负的).
Still, kids don't often accept parents' help. That's because when teens are overwhelmed, parents may say things like “When I was your age, I had a job, and I still did my homework and made time for my friends. I know that you can do this, too.” They mean well trying to connect with their teens in this comparative way, but often it causes a communication breakdown.
When teens are stressed, most parents try to solve their problems, but often what teens really need is to develop problem solving skills of their own. Sheryl Ziegler, an expert in Denver, says it's important to teach teens how to develop cognitive empathy (同理心), which allows them to try to understand someone else's thoughts and how they view the world. For example, if a teen is upset because a friend doesn't return a text, parents can ask, “What do you think might be going on for her?” or “Remember last week when you didn't text back right away because you were studying for an exam?”
Because teenagers are so emotionally driven, they may act in mad ways. A disagreement with a teacher or a friend or an unanswered text can make them feel like the end of the world. Research shows that cognitive empathy skills can help teens realize that people and situations can change, which allows them to face social challenges more easily. By developing their cognitive empathy, teens can remind themselves that even when feelings take over, stressful situations last for a short time only.
28.What does the first paragraph try to tell us
A.Teens have a busy schedule. B.Teens face a number of challenges.
C.Teens need more communication. D.Teens don't get along well with others.
29.Which of the following can best describe parents' solution to teenagers' problems
A.Creative. B.Simple. C.Ineffective. D.Unclear.
30.What should parents do for teenagers according to Ziegler
A.Help them solve their problems. B.Express their understanding of them.
C.Bring up examples related to themselves. D.Teach them to understand what's on others' mind.
31.How can cognitive empathy help teens
A.It strengthens their kindness. B.It improves their speaking ability.
C.It helps them manage their emotions. D.It makes them focus their energies on others.
D
[2023·湖北省黄冈市高二上学期期中]Growing up, we are constantly reminded that young people are the most affected by technology. We are the “antisocial social club”, those who prefer to text our friends in the same room rather than having to make eye contact with them. And even though never ending studies reveal to us the extent of our social media addiction, warning us that we are slowly turning into tech zombies, we should at least consider that it's not only us young ones any more.
There's the rise of the Instagram mums, who like to post an abundance of cute baby pictures, showing their seemingly put together lifestyles and sharing their many mom feelings along the way. They are the so called “Facebook mum generation”, a growing group of parents that like to overshare and, in the process, are slowly pushing out young people who can't bear to see another one of mum's embarrassing selfies (自拍照).
Actually, new research suggests that parents' technology addiction is negatively affecting their children's behaviour. According to the study, 40% of mothers and 32% of fathers have admitted to having some sort of phone addiction. This has led to a significant fall in verbal (口头的) interactions within families and even a decline in mothers encouraging their children.
There is no denying that I get annoyed when I receive the “I'll be with you shortly line” from a parent, when all I want to do is ask one question. But, at the same time, leaving the room to wait until my father is finished with his “serious business”, has now become the norm (常态). Whether you want to escape your pestering children for a bit, or want to stay up late flicking through Twitter, know that wanting to do all of this is normal. We—your children—know how addictive it can be and how difficult it is to switch off. But before telling us to “put our phones away at the table” or even worse, pulling up statistics of how damaging social media can be for us, maybe lead by example and consider how much time you spend on the phone as well as how this is impacting your children and your relationship with them. Maybe in this way we can work on our addiction together.
32.What's the main reason why young people leave Facebook
A.Mums like to post baby pictures on it. B.More and more parents like to overshare.
C.The young people don't like mum's selfies. D.The information on it is boring for them.
33.What can we infer from the text
A.Instagram mums are living a bright life.
B.Young people are the most affected by technology.
C.Parents should set good examples for their children.
D.Only 40% of mothers are unwilling to encourage their children.
34.What's the meaning of the underlined word in the last paragraph
A.cute. B.intelligent. C.annoying. D.aggressive.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A.Parents Are Addicted to Phones Too.
B.Facebook Mum Generation Is Growing.
C.Young People Are Turning into Tech zombies.
D.The Negative Effect of Parents' Technology Addiction.

[2023·山东省潍坊市高二上学期期中]Sally had longed to become a dancer since three. However, a terrible car accident made that ambition nearly come to an end overnight in 2011. Sally, then a 15 year old high school student in California was injured severely in the accident that left her paralyzed (瘫痪的) from the waist down. For most people, that would have dashed any hope of a dancing career. But for Sally, it was just the beginning of new life. Instead of being a barrier, her wheelchair made her more courageous. “I wanted to prove to my community and to myself that I was still ‘normal',” she said with a determined look,“Whatever normal meant.”
In her eyes, normal meant dancing, so Sally did it in her wheelchair right alongside her nondisabled high school dance team. “Half of my body was taken away from me, and I have to move it with my hands,” Sally said. “It definitely took a lot of learning and patience.”
After graduation, Sally expanded her dance network to include women who had the same situation as her. She met people online who had suffered various spinal cord injuries (脊髓损伤), and invited them to dance with her by sharing her determination. “It was such an amazing experience.” Hoping to reach more people in a larger city, Sally moved to Los Angeles in 2016 and formed a team of dancers with disabilities called DREAM. “I want to show that dance is dance, whether you're walking or you're rolling.”
In Sally's dancing team, there was a girl Ella aged 12, who had been feeling depressed since the terrible accident. Having known about the girl's situation, Sally made efforts to seek every chance to help the little girl find back the confidence to live. Thanks to Sally's continuous efforts, the little girl recovered physically and mentally day by day. The other day, an invitation to a national dancing competition arrived. After a heated discussion, they reached an agreement that they would recommend Ella to the competition on behalf of the team.
