8A Unit 4 Reading: Do it yourself

Background information
Reading is the highlight of the unit, and this reading material is about Andrew’s DIY experiences. So Students may have fun reading such interesting stories. However, students may have some difficulty understanding some house decoration items, so it’s important to learn the meanings of the new words and expressions in the context to have a good understanding.
The Ss in the Gifted Department have high learning ability, so it’s not difficult for them to understand the general idea of the passages. It’s important for the teacher to challenge them so as to keep them motivated and interested in class. In this class, Students will be encouraged to think further about the problems caused by Andrew, and work out the language rules according to some examples. They will have the chance to do DIY work according to what they have learnt, which is the output of the language learning.

Help Ss work out the article structure.

我上的是牛津译林2013版8AU4Reading1和Reading2,时间为一个小时。比传统的两个课时少了半个小时,是一堂高度浓缩的阅读课。
本节课设计的目标愿景有以下几个:教学策略方面:1、通过整体阅读,帮助学生理解文章基本内容;2、通过文章语境,鼓励学生找出并推测文章中的新词和难点;3、通过课文和相关的DIY话题,帮助学生掌握并正确运用语言点。
学习策略方面: 1、学生能够使用恰当的阅读方法和技巧使阅读过程更加有效;2、学生通过语言学习,能够使用英语指示完在成一个简单的DIY作品。
情感态度价值观方面:学生能够进一步深入思考DIY,懂得在发扬DIY精神的同时要具备相关的知识,以使DIY效果更优化。
下面,我来阐述一下具体教学过程。
本节阅读课分为pre-reading, while-reading, post-reading三个环节。
在pre-reading中,我设置了free talk和根据图片和标题的预测两个步骤。通过free talk,引发学生的兴趣,激发他们已有的?DIY背景知识。预测是一个重要的阅读技能,预测让学生主动思考即将阅读的内容,从而使他们更加有效地进行阅读。
在while-reading中,我首先让学生根据各段落的主要内容分析文章结构,并对三段内容各提出了一个general question。
接来下是新词和难点的处理。在对文章有了一个整体的感知和了解后,我让学生自己发现并找出文中的新词和难点,并鼓励学生通过文章的语境,用生生互助,师生互助的形式理解新词和难点。
为了帮助学生更深入地内化文本,我利用教材后的练习,使用判断正误的方式来帮助学生理解更多的细节内容。
本文关于Andrew的DIY经历是文章的主体和亮点,因此我让学生在了解Andrew这些有趣而糟糕的DIY经历后,对DIY作进一步思考,想想我们怎么样能帮助Andrew来解决这些问题,我们自己做DIY应该注意些什么。
初中生的英语学习要注重朗读的锻炼,在理解并分析了文章之后,我让学生跟着录音练习朗读。我采取的方式是让学生轻声跟读,以便听清录音,并且让学生跟在录音后面,而不是和录音同步朗读,以达到模仿录音语音和语调的目的。在跟读后,我鼓励学生大胆向班级展示自己的朗读,并让学生互相评价朗读的好坏。
有了朗读的铺垫,接下来就自然过渡到?post-reading的复述环节。
首先,学生根据PPT上的关键词,对文章进行复述,巩固和加深对文章内容的印象。
有了对文本再一次的整体回顾,接下来我让学生对DIY和Andrew进行进一步的思考, 得出这样的共识:那就是我们要认真谨慎对待DIY,在DIY前一定要学习相关的知识,但是我们要坚持DIY的精神,自己动手,自己做事。
语言知识的学习和巩固是Reading2的重要方面。第一,我设计了一个DIY广告推荐给Andrew,学生要用刚学到的知识来帮助我完成这个广告。第二,我通过Andrew和我自身的DIY经历,展示了instead, fill…with…, not only…but also这几个重要语言点。语言点的呈现放到了和DIY相关的语境中,避免了孤立和为了语言点而学语言点的感觉,另外,语言点的呈现使用让学生自己根据例子归纳的方法,最大化激发了学生的主动思考积极性。第三,我设计了一个课堂制作DIY爱心信封的活动,让学生亲身体验DIY,并且让他们运用所学的英语表达相应的步骤指示,让他们真正明白做好DIY需要相关的知识,并且使学生享受到了DIY的乐趣。
由于这是一节浓缩的阅读课,因此我还是有一些觉得困惑或困难的地方。比如,由于时间的限制,书上的课后练习未能全部完成,学生对一些新词的发音用法掌握可能会比较欠缺。另外新教材进度和内容与学生的学习情况无法完全匹配,在本课的学习中学生可能对部分内容会觉得过难或过易等。教学是一门缺憾的艺术,本节课难免会有疏漏和不足,恳请各位老师提出宝贵的意见和建议。
