Slowly but surely, we’re moving closer and closer to 5G world. From smart-home security(安全) to self-driving cars, all the internet-connected devices in your life will be able to talk to each other at lightning-fast speeds. Objectively speaking, the fastest 4G download speeds in the US top out at an average of 10.42 Mbps. But by comparison, 5G promises gigabit(千兆) speeds.
“5G is one of those signs, along with artificial intelligence(人工智能),of this coming data age,” said Steve Koenig, senior director of market research for the Consumer Technology Association. The self-driving vehicle(车辆) is a great emblem of this data age, and that is to say, it is a sign of time, because with one single task, driving, you have a large number of data coming from the vehicle itself, and a variety of sensors(传感器) are collecting a lot of information to model its environment as it moves. It’s pulling in data from other vehicles about road conditions down the lane(车道). It could be weather information, but also connected infrastructure (基础设施)construction. There is lots of data behind that task, which is why we need high speeds.
Augmented reality glasses and virtual headset haven’t yet broken the mainstream, but tech companies are joyfully betting(打赌) that these devices will eventually replace our smartphones. With 5G, that could actually happen. This is notable(显著的) because companies such as Apple are reportedly developing AR glasses to assist--or perhaps even replace--smartphones.
Ericsson stated at February' s Mobile World Congress how smart glasses could become faster and lighter with a 5G connection, because instead of being weighed down with components(部件), the glasses could rely on hardware for processing(处理)power.
But don't get too excited. There's still a lot of work to be done in the meantime, including various trials to make sure the radios play nicely with hardware and infrastructure construction, so 5G isn’t concentrated(集中) only in big cities.
24.What does the author want to stress in Paragraph 1
A.The lightning- fast speeds of 5G. B.The expectation of 5G world.
C.The difference between 4G and 5G. D.The internet-connected devices in our life.
25.What does the underlined word “emblem” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.Exhibition. B.Success. C.Symbol. D.Explanation.
26.What will the author probably tell us next
A.How to fully expand 5G coverage(覆盖范围). B.Smart glasses will become faster and lighter.
C.Why 5G isn't concentrated in big cities. D.The importance of infrastructure construction.
27.Where is this passage probably taken from
A.A science fiction. B.A science magazine.
C.A business report. D.A film documentary.

When I was six, Dad brought home a dog one day, who was called “Brownie”. My brothers and I all loved Brownie and did different things with her. One of us would walk her, another would feed her, then there were baths, playing catch and many other games, Brownie, in return, loved each and every one of us. One thing that most touched my heart was that she would go to whoever was sick and just be with them. we always felt better when she was around.
One day, as I was getting her food, she chewed up(咬破)one of Dad’s shoes, which had to be thrown away in the end. I knew Dad would be mad and I had to let her know what she did was wrong. When I looked at her and said, ”Bad girl,” she looked down at the ground and then went and hid. I saw a tear in her eyes.
Brownie turned out to be more than just our family pet, she went everywhere with us . People would stop and ask if they could pet her. Of course she’d let anyone pet her. She was just the most lovable dog. There were many times when we’d be out walking and a small child would come over and pull her hair. she never barked(吠) or tried to get away. Funny thing is she would smile. This frightened people because they thought she was showing her teeth. Far from the truth, she loves everyone.
Now many years have passed since Brownie died of old age. I still miss days when she was with us.

Are morning people born or made In my case it was definitely made. In my early 20s, I rarely went to bed before midnight, and I would almost always get up late the next morning.
But after a while I couldn’t ignore the high relationship between success and rising early. On those rare occasions where I did get up early, I noticed that my productivity was almost always higher. So I set out to become a habitual early riser. But whenever my alarm went off, my first thought was always to stop that noise and go back to sleep. Eventually some sleep research showed me that I was using the wrong strategy.
The most common wrong strategy is this:You assume that if you’re going to get up earlier, you’d better go to bed earlier. It sounds very reasonable, but will usually fail.
There are two main schools (流派) of thought on sleep patterns. The first is that you should go to bed and get up at the same time every day. The second school says you should go to bed when you’re tired and get up when you naturally wake up. However, I have found both of them are wrong if you care about productivity. If you sleep at set hours, you’ll sometimes go to bed when you aren’t sleepy enough. You’re wasting time lying in bed awake and not being asleep.
If your sleep is based on what your body tells you, you’ll probably be sleeping more than you need. Also, your mornings may be less predictable if you’re getting up at different times.
The solution for me has been to combine both methods. I go to bed when I’m sleepy and get up with an alarm clock at a fixed time. So I always get up at the same time (in my case 5 am), but I go to bed at different times every night — sometimes at 9:30pm, and other times at midnight. Most of the time I go to bed between 10-11 pm.
However, going to bed only when I’m sleepy, and getting up at a fixed time every morning is my way. If you want to become an early riser, you can try your own.
32.According to the passage, the underlined phrase refers to ________.
A.people who stay up until the next morning
B.people who feel sleepy in the morning
C.people who get up early in the morning
D.people whose productivity is the highest in the morning
33.Why did the author want to become a habitual early riser
A.Because he/she wanted to form the habit of going to bed early and getting up early.
B.Because he/she wanted to see which of the two main schools of thought on sleep patterns was right.
C.Because he/she had found that his / her productivity was higher when he / she got up early.
D.Because he/she was told the high relationship between success and rising early.
34.The author experienced all the following EXCEPT ________.
A.asking scholars for advice on sleeping habits B.getting up early occasionally
C.pressing off the alarm to go on sleeping D.going to bed after midnight
35.The passage is mainly about ________.
A.how to have good sleep
B.how to become an early riser
C.wrong strategies for getting up early
D.main schools of thought on sleep patterns

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
You might think that if you’ve been born with working ears, listening shouldn’t be all that hard. But up to one in four leaders struggles with listening skills, and ifs common to be a bad listener in day-to-day life.
36 One answer is that many of us listen to respond rather than to hear what’s being said. When we’re chatting with someone, we’re constantly thinking of what we’re going to say next instead of actually processing what the other party is saying. 37
We do it because we want to be good conversationalists and avoid uncomfortable pauses (停顿) in the discussion. 38 The solution, according to psychologist Kenneth E. Miller, is incredibly simple. “Before you respond in a conversation, take a breath. Not an enormous, loud, obvious breath that screams out ‘I am trying a new technique for better listening!’ No, just a normal, simple, ordinary breath. That’s it.”
Could something so small make a difference Yes, insists Miller. 39 “I find I interrupt people a lot less often,” he reports. “In response, people seem more relaxed when we are talking.” He’s not the only one to spot a difference. On New York Magazine’s blog, The Cut, Katie Heany describes a sort of natural experiment that shows the power of simply taking a breath before you respond. “A friend of a friend who currently lives in France often pauses a lot before she replies, mainly because her French is only somewhat fluent. As a result, all her French friends tell her she’s an amazing listener. This is not something she hears much in English,” she writes.
40 All you need is this simple technique. Go ahead, give it a try and see if it works for you.
A.The moment they’re done speaking, we leap in with a comment or question.
B.How can we be a good listener
C.This is because we are trying to make a reasonable response at once.
D.Why do we struggle with listening
E.He’s noticed positive effects in everyday conversations.
F.You don’t have to be barely fluent in a language to achieve “great listener” status.
G.But often the result is the other person feels unheard.

Single mother Krystal works hard to provide daily necessities for her kid. They may not have many material things. But love is clearly in no short supply.
Krystal was having a particularly tough time making ends meet. The bike she rode to work broke and couldn’t be used. But she couldn’t afford a new one. So she had to walk to work, spending an extra hour on the way. Once in a while, she would wonder whether there was hope in life. Her son, 13-year-old William Preston, couldn’t help but notice.
Seeing his mother work so hard to earn money, William, the sweet young man, was always helping his mother with housework. He didn’t want to see his mom walking to work every day. So, he decided he was going to do whatever it took to buy his mom another bike.
William saw on YouTube that a boy bought his mom a bike and then surprised her with it. He also wanted to do that. William came across a cheap used bike on sale on Facebook. And he knew what he needed to do to help out his struggling mom.
In fact, the 13-year-old has been doing yard work for people in his community to make some money. So, he continued to work hard and save money, which was impressive enough for someone his age. But William took it one step further.
Back in his own room, William was staring at the big box of toys that his relatives and friends had bought him as gifts. He treasured the toys. He spent most of his spare time playing with them. Among them was the game player Xbox, his most prized possession (财产). When his mother called him to have supper, he had an idea.

66.Dear Alice,
I am more than happy to receive your letter. In your letter, you ask me about my study and living life in the first term of Senior One. Let me introduce it to you.
The study and living life in the first semester of Senior One is different from that of Junior. What I want to mention most is that the life of first term is more independent, study is more challenging and we have to learn 9 subjects. With the help of teachers and classmates, I was well accustomed to the life of Senior High.
With the new term coming, I make up my mind to try harder. Still, I will pay more attention to forming the study habit of preview and review, which is of vital importance to improve study efficiency.
Lastly, I have an expectancy that my study and living life of this new semester will be both amazing and fulfilling and I can have some time to join my favorite clubs.
Looking forward to your letter. Best Wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
67.After school, he brought his Xbox to a second-hand shop nearby. When asked why he wanted to sell the game player, William told the shopkeeper about his idea. The shopkeeper was impressed by the considerate boy and bought the game player at a relatively higher price. With this money in his pocket, William figured out that he needed to do yard work for one more week to get enough money for the bike. Day after day, the money in his pocket increased. On the seventh day, he finally managed to save enough money.
With the money he had saved, William bought the bike on Facebook. When Krystal came back from work with tired body, she was surprised to see a bike in the house. Learning what William had done for her, tears welled up in her eyes. She gave William a big hug, saying, “I love you, my dear son. Thank you so much.” Krystal shared their story on YouTube, “When I was in a tough time, my son William came here. His act of kindness has helped restore my hope for the future.”

M:How many hours do you spend sitting in a chair every day Eight hours in the office plus three hours in front of the TV after work is the answer for most of adult people. You probably don’t need an expert to tell you that sitting too much is not good for your health. To make matters worse, a study suggests that the negative effects of sitting too much cannot be made up by a good diet and regular exercise, according to an article in the New York Times. The article reported that a 2010 study of nearly 9,000 Australians found that for each additional hour of television a person watched per day, the risk of dying rose by 11 percent. Another study tracked the health of 123,000 Americans between 1992 and 2006. The death rate for men who spent six hours or more per day sitting was about 20 percent higher than for men who sat for three hours or less. The death rate for women who sat for more than six hours a day was about 40 percent higher. Although there is no information about the effects of sitting too much on children, experts believe sitting too much is also bad on them, even if it probably can’t lead to higher death rate.
