There are many fun, free activities that you can do as a family. All that is required is a bit of imagination and some time. And the best part is that these are the kind of fun and family memories that a child will remember for a lifetime.
Family Game Night
Kids often get games for Christmas or birthdays, and would love to have a chance to play with their family or make up some games of their own. Charades(字谜游戏)is a fun game that will challenge children to use their imagination. Divide the family into teams and let each team come up with words and the other has to act out.
Family Art Time
Pick some time for the family to sit down and come up with their own art.
It doesn’t need to be just a drawing— take some old magazines, let the kids cut out pictures and paste them into their own shape. Or let them use leaves, branches and whatever else they can find to make something from their imagination.
Family Picnic
Taking the family for a picnic is a great way for some fun that doesn’t cost any money. If the weather is nice, take them to a park or playground and let them have a day of playing.
Family Field Trip
A family field trip doesn’t have to cost a cent. Ask a nearby farm if you can bring your kids out for a tour and to see some of the animals. Or take them to a park to find certain items from nature. Ask a local business if you could bring the family for a tour to see how things work—you might be surprised at the number of people who would be excited to share what they do with others, and it could be an interesting lesson for kids.
1.When playing the game charades, kids are supposed to ______.
A. prepare some cakes for each other
B. be quick to follow others’ actions
C. sing a song for each other in turn
D. connect actions with certain words
2.It can be inferred from the last paragraph that ______.
A. it costs a lot to visit a park for a family
B. you may share your own experience with workers
C. you should ask for permission from the farm owner
D. all the people will be excited to share what they have with you
3.The passage is mainly intended for ______.
A. teachers B. parents C. tourists D. teenagers
It’s time to go back to high school. Students are excited about the new beginning. But for many kids, the first day is more about friends than classes, and maybe with good reason. On that day, the teacher takes attendance(考勤), hands out books, and describes the teaching plan. If a student hears the same things in seven classes, you can’t blame(责备) them for thinking it’s going to be another long year. When the high schoolers’ parents ask what they did in school, it’s pretty likely that the answer will be “Nothing.”
It doesn’t have to be this way. Kids always want exciting changes, and you can give them a taste of how appealing your course will be. One English teacher asks students to write 77 words about what they want to get out of her class. Then she reads their responses out aloud. She keeps the responses until the last day of the school year. Finally she hands them back to students so that they can see if they achieved what they wanted. After encouraging kids with a year-long game, she begins the English course.
On the first day of science, a teacher gives students 30 minutes to build something to improve people’s lives. A history teacher organizes a debate on whether Swiss cheese is better than cheddar. In math class, another teacher puts students in groups of three, and gives them six minutes to come up with as many answers as possible to the question, “What is math good for ”
The new class activities are part of our school wide movement to improve the first day of classes. Many teachers choose to use creative ways to encourage kids from day one. And all students seem to enjoy the changes. Quite a few parents told me that their kids said, “I think English (or math or biology or Spanish) is going to be great!”
4.Which best describes the class on the first day of school in Paragraph 1
A. Too boring. B. A bit strange.
C. Really wonderful. D. Quite challenging.
5.What does the underlined word “appealing” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Confusing. B. Ordinary. C. Attractive. D. Unfamiliar.
6.What will the students find out in English class at the end of the school year
A. If their writing skills have improved.
B. If their expectations have been realized.
C. If they can understand the 77 words.
D. If the teacher likes their responses
7.What do the teachers in Paragraph 3 have in common
A. All try to organize different debates.
B. All ask students to work in groups.
C. All hold discussions on teaching plans.
D. All choose to do something exciting.
When we’re in trouble we always ask our parents for help. But would you like them to hear the conversations you have with your friends on the school playground Social networking sites have become extensions(延伸) of the school hallways, so would you add your parents as “friends” and allow them to view your online activities and conversations with friends
In the past the generation gap included a technology gap, where children were up to date with the latest technology and parents were left behind, content to continue their day-to-day lives as they always had because they didn’t need to know more about technology. However, many parents are beginning to realize just how important social networks are in their lives. This realization has given many parents the motivation(动机) to educate themselves about social networking sites. These days many people are attracted to social networking sites because they can choose who they have around them, there’s also a amount of control over privacy(隐私) that we don’t get in real life. Sometimes we feel that privacy is violated(违背) when we must accept a “friend” request from family members.
It’s a difficult choice whether or not to allow parents to become a part of our online lives. Sometimes we don’t want to “refuse” their request because that might hurt their feelings or make them feel you have something to hide. But if you do accept, then you will feel yourself being watched and no longer feel free to communicate the way you did before.
A survey suggested parents shouldn’t take it personally if their children overlook(忽略) their requests. When a teenager overlooks a parent’s friend request, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he is hiding something, but it means that he wants to be independent.
Perhaps talking with parents and explaining would help soften the blow if you choose not to add them to your friend list.
8.What can we infer from Paragraph 2
A. Parents feel secure about their privacy online.
B. Parents have realized the importance of social networks.
C. Social networks successfully fill the generation gap.
D. Social networks offer parents a motivation to educate themselves.
9.What maybe the reason for teenagers to refuse a parent’s friend request
A. They hide something from their parents.
B. Their parents make negative comments on them.
C. They are unwilling to be watched by parents.
D. Their parents tend to fall behind in technology.
10.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about
A. How to use the social networks correctly.
B. How do social networks affect people’s life.
C. Why do most of teenagers refuse their parents’ friend requests.
D. How to reduce the unpleasant influence of refusing parents’ friend requests.
11.What is the best title of the passage
A. Parents’ Friend Requests. B. Privacy Online.
C. The Importance of Relationship. D. The Development of Social Networks.
If English means endless new words, difficult grammar and sometimes strange pronunciation, you are wrong. Haven’t you noticed that you have become smarter since you started to learn a language
According to a new study by a British university, learning a second language can lead to an increase in your brain power. Researchers found that learning other languages changes grey matter density This is the area of the brain which processes (加工) information. It is similar to the way that exercise builds muscles. The study also found the younger people learn a second language, the greater the effect is.
A team led by Dr. Andrea Mechelli, from University College London (UCL), took a group of Britons who only spoke English. They were compared with a group of “early bilinguals” who had learnt a second language before the age of five, as well as a number of later learners.
Scans showed that grey matter density in the brain was greater in bilinguals than in people without a second language. But the longer a person waited before mastering a new language, the smaller the difference was.
“Our findings suggest that the structure of the brain is changed by the experience of learning a second language,” said the scientists. It means that the change itself increases the ability to learn.
Professor Dylan Vaughan Jones of the University of Wales, has researched the link between bilingualism and maths skills. “Having two languages gives you two windows on the world and makes the brain more flexible.” he said. “You are actually going beyond language and have a better understanding of different ideas.”
The findings were matched in a study of native Italian speakers who had learnt English as a second language between the ages of two and thirty-four. Reading writing, and comprehension were all tested. The results showed that the younger they started to learn, the better. “Studying a language means you get an entrance to another world,” explained the scientists.
12.Why does the writer mention “exercise” in the second paragraph
A. To make people believe language learning is helpful for their health.
B. To suggest language learning is also a kind of physical labor.
C. To prove that one needs more resources when he/she is learning a language.
D. To tell us that learning a language can train your brain effectively.
13.What can we know from the scientific findings
A. The ability of learning a second language is changing all the time.
B. The earlier you start to learn a second language, the higher the grey matter density is.
C. The experience of learning a second language has a bad effect on brain.
D. There is no difference between a later second language learner and one without a second language.
14.In the last two paragraphs, the author tries to tell us that ________.
A. early learning of a second language helps in studying other subjects
B. learning a second language is the same as studying maths
C. Italian is the best choice for you as a second language
D. you’d better choose the ages between 2 and 34 to learn a second language
15.What is mainly talked about in this passage
A. Language learning is closely connected with maths study.
B. Man has a great ability of learning a second language.

I always wondered how people would react if I tried to approach a stranger for help in a busy place like a street corner or in a bustling mall. I personally have hurried past a stranger who tried to catch my attention in a busy place.
Yesterday I had a taste of being stuck in such a desperate situation where you only hope of help would have to come from a total stranger.
I was in a busy shopping mall buying a large piece of luggage. After the purchase in one of the large and expensive shops, I picked up my phone from my pocket to call my driver waiting in the parking lot and my phone was dead.
I then requested the shop assistant selling me the luggage, which was not cheap at all, if she could ring the number of my driver for me. She replied, still all smiles, “I’m sorry Sir, but it is the shop policy that we cannot use mobile phones while working in the shop.”
As I was wondering what kind of policy that was, I saw a nice-looking teenage boy coming toward me. Remember my wife’s interesting theory that beautiful people are more likely to give you a hand when you’re in trouble, I thought I might have a chance. But before I could say a word, he walked past me. It turned out he simply didn’t see me.
I waited in the mall but it seemed nobody bothered to look at me. Disappointed and tired I got out of the shop on to the busy street in front. I stood there with people rushing by, looking at their faces to see if they will show kindness to me. I began wondering how many times I had reacted to strangers like the shop girl and the teenager.
注意:1. 续写的短文词数应为100左右;

Which/that②the③on④development⑤joined⑥times⑦enormously⑧transporting⑨and⑩powerful
故填which/that。
故填the。
have a great influence on意为“对……有重要影响”。故填on。
空前的“the improvement of world civilization”和空后的“the progress of human society”之间是并列关系,所以应用and连接。故填and。
33.答案:
Mother’s Day fell on May 14th this year. I made a gift for my mother. As my mother likes reading, I made a bookshelf for her.
Several days before the day I bought the wood on the Internet. Then I made the bookshelf all by myself. At first, I read the instructions. Then, following the instructions, I pieced together different pieces of wood and nailed the wood. Eventually, the bookshelf was assembled. Afterwards I painted the bookshelf purple, which is my mother’s favorite color. Looking at the bookshelf, I was filled with happiness.
When my mother received the gift, she hugged me, tears rolling down her face.

34.答案:
That was when I saw a young mother with her two kids. She was talking on the phone, and her voice told me she was a gentle and patient lady. The two kids were neatly dressed and waited quietly beside her. This must be a nice family, I thought to myself. Therefore, I approached to make a request. But as soon as I said, “Excuse me madam,” she grabbed both her kids and went away. Did I look like someone trying to hurt people I felt my heart sinking horribly.
Finally a man wearing a cheap T-shirt and dirty jeans seemed to notice me. I didn’t know why but I just stopped him and made my request. I was expecting him to rush past but he immediately called the number of my driver and waited till my car came to be sure I was picked up, turned around before I could thank him adequately and was gone. Surprised by his kindness, I promised I would do likewise to strangers who sought my help.
