Cherry Hill East graduate Max McGee will start his first day as a sports anchor (主持人) on ESPN’s Sports
Center on Jan.31. After three years of covering Baltimore and Maryland sports for WIZ-TV, McGee’s new
position will involve carrying out live interviews with athletes, reviewing previous games and looking ahead to
others.
A graduate of Cherry Hill East, McGee got his first broadcast experience on a sports show. It was an idea
encouraged by the late East softball coach Charlie Musumeci. “I remember him coming up to me after school,”
McGee remembered. He said, “You’d probably be really good on camera. I know you talk about sports. Why
don’t you give it a try ” “He really started something,” McGee added, “He saw something in me that I didn’t see
in myself.”
In 2008, McGee had a hard time. He was recovering from a setback (挫折) he experienced when he attended
Camden County College and played baseball. He dreamed of playing baseball as a career, but was cut by his team.
“My dream wasn’t over,” McGee added. “It was just a different chapter because I realized I would be able to
talk about sports for a living, instead of playing them. And that was great.”
He graduated in 2012. Then he went on to study journalism at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he
joined All Sports Update, a student-run program on Temple TV, and got broadcast experience through WHIP radio.
After 14 months of searching for a reporter’s job, he landed a job in Lake Charles, Louisiana, as a news reporter
and producer at KPLC-TV.
“I didn’t intend to be a news reporter, but looking back on it, it was probably the best thing that ever
happened in my career,” McGee noted.

attend or what subject to study, and get on camera as much as possible.

People perform graceful moves, all while standing on a bamboo strip in the river. You may think it’s a scene
from an art movie, but actually it is a form of intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产): bamboo drifting (独
竹漂).
Bamboo drifting dates back to over 2,000 years ago in the Chishui River area of Guizhou. During the Qin
Dynasty, the Bozhou district of Zunyi city was known for its high-quality nanmu. It was in great demand by the
royal court more than 2,000 kilometers to the north. With no transportation along the Chishui River, people had to
stand on one log (原木) to drift down the river. Later, local people began to compete along the way and the game
of wood drifting was born. In the Qing Dynasty, wood drifting became bamboo drifting because of bamboo’s
lower price. Now, communities in Guizhou hold bamboo drifting competitions every year during Dragon Boat
Festival. Due to the great strength and balance it takes for one to get the hang of this act, bamboo drifting was
included in the national intangible cultural heritage list in 2021.
Yang Liu, 24, is an inheritor (继承人) of bamboo drifting. Yang said the most challenging part of bamboo
drifting was keeping one’s balance. “I fell in the water several times when I was practising,” she said.
But the love for the ancient skill keeps Yang going. In the past 17 years, she has drifted all year round, in
winter cold and summer heat.
Yang also produces new ideas when spreading the culture of bamboo drifting. For example, she connects
dance with bamboo drifting to make it more graceful and wears hanfu when performing, creating a beautiful feel.
In 2020, Yang registered on social media platforms and posted her videos. “I want to spread it to other countries
so that more people around the world will like Chinese culture,” she told China Daily.
28. What can be learned from the first two paragraphs

C. The martial arts movie is a form of cultural heritage.
D. Bamboo drifting involves lots of skills.
29. What does the underlined phrase “get the hang of” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Master. B. Change. C. Prepare. D. Improve.
30. What is the most difficult for bamboo drifting in Yang Liu’s opinion
A. Designing moves. B. Keeping balance.
C. Choosing bamboos. D. Transporting goods.
31. What can we infer about Yang Liu
A. She has become the leader of bamboo drifting.
B. She learned bamboo drifting very easily.
C. She inherits bamboo drifting creatively.
D. She began learning bamboo drifting at 17.

Three minutes of looking at red light once a week may help our eyesight (the ability to see), new research
suggests. The findings show that red light might be a cheap and easy treatment for declines in color vision (色觉
减退) as we get older.
Last year, researchers from University College London did a study on red light therapy (疗法). 24 healthy
volunteers, aged between 28 and 72, were asked to look at red light for three minutes every day for two weeks.
Tests later found that the eyesight of people over the age of 40 improved.
To test the possible weak points of their therapy, they did a new study this year. Instead of using the light
every day, they used it once a week. The new study included 20 volunteers, aged between 34 and 70, all with
healthy vision. Some received red light therapy in the morning, and others received it in the afternoon. They were
then tested on their color vision up to a week later.
On the whole, those who got the treatment in the morning showed a 17% improvement in their color vision,
even a week later. Those who got the treatment in the afternoon did not have any improvement.
“We’ve found that one single exposure (暴露) to red light in the morning can greatly improve declining
vision,” said lead author Glen Jeffrey.
The findings do support their earlier work, and they might make the treatment more practicable, since a
once-weekly treatment is easier to stick to than a daily one. But the team’s promising results are still drawn on
small numbers of healthy volunteers. Larger studies would be needed to show the benefits of red light therapy.
“In the near future, a once-a-week three-minute exposure to deep red light could be done while making a
coffee or listening to a song, and such a simple thing could change eye care and vision around the world,” Jeffrey
said.
Given its low cost (as little as $15) per device(设备), and simplicity, theteam is excited about the
future of their therapy.
32. What plays a key role in red light therapy
A.The device used in the treatment. B. The time of day for treatment.
C. The time that one treatment lasts. D. The number of treatments received.
33. What makes it necessary to improve the study
A. The age of the volunteers. B. The poor vision of the volunteers.
C. The health condition of the volunteers. D. The number of the volunteers.
34. What is Jeffrey’s attitude towards the future of the therapy
A. Hopeful. B. Doubtful. C. Carefree. D. Unclear.
35. What is the purpose of this text
A. To state the importance of eye care. B. To explain the value of deep red light.
C. To introduce a way to fight vision decline. D.To encourage aged people to protect their eyesight.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
In 1907, Leo Baekeland invented Bakelite—the first ever plastic. Since then, plastics have been used widely
in various industries and people’s lives. Plastic bags were introduced to supermarkets in 1977. Now, 160,000
plastic bags are used globally every second!
36 However, they are extremely inconvenient for the earth:
Plastic bags live on much, much longer—perhaps as much as 1,000 years in a landfill (垃圾填埋地).
When plastic breaks down in the ocean, it doesn’t break down completely. 37 The toxic (有毒的)
chemicals from the plastic waste then enter the food chain.
Plastic bags cause the death of many sea animals when they are mistaken for food. In 2008, a whale was
found beached in California. It died due to the more than 22 kilos of plastic found in its stomach.
38 However, sometimes you get to the store and realize you left your reusable shopping bag at home.
The key to improving our environmental behavior is to make a plan. And you should build your
environmental muscle memory: Put your recyclable bags somewhere that will ensure you always remember to
bring them with you.
If you drive to the store, keep your bags in your car. 39 If you walk, store your reusable bags near your
front door.
Through this act of green, you have created a plan to ensure you will always have your reusable grocery bags
on hand when you need them. 40 So build a plan and keep to it!
A. If you bike, keep them in your basket.
B. But it only counts if you stick to the plan.
C. It remains harmful even when it breaks down.
D. Plastic bags are billed for their “convenience”.
E. It just gets smaller and ends up getting eaten by fish.
