Since I was a little girl growing up in Safranbolu,Turkey,I’ve dreamed of exploring the world—from the sandy beaches of California to the northern lights in Iceland.Until a couple of years ago,I couldn’t have even imagined this happening, but a few months ago my dreams finally became a reality.
I’m more than 7ft (2.15 metres) tall,so travelling is difficult for me.I am the tallest woman in the world, due to a rare genetic condition called Weaver Syndrome(韦弗综合征),which affects only 50 people.
My childhood was not easy.I was homeschooled because of my physical condition and from as early as I can remember,I knew I looked different from other people.I felt like a child trapped inside an adult’s body. When I was six,I was already 5ft in tall.As a social norm(标准),people expect men to be bigger and taller than women;this makes things very difficult for tall women, and I find it upsetting.
I often need to adjust things due to my height.Everything has to be altered to suit me,which can be very hard, but there are positives, too.I usually buy clothes from brands specializing in plus-size clothing, then alter them.I’ll find a dress that I like and then get it turned into a top.Bottoms always have to be tailored. It gives me a chance to be creative.
I’ve always been a very ambitious person. In 2014,when I was 17,I received the title for the tallest living teenager.I actually applied for it myself,as I saw the record holder at the time was shorter than me.
In 2021,I was named the tallest living woman, and last year I received the titles for the largest hands, longest fingers and longest back, too.I use these titles as a platform to raise awareness about my condition and also to empower people to be themselves.I hope to inspire and encourage other people with similar conditions to know they’re not alone and that anything is possible for them.
4.What makes the author’s childhood challenging
A.Her homeschooling.
B.Her mixed emotions.
C.Her abnormal height.
D.Her eagerness to travel.
5.How did the author respond to the titles
A.She turned down such strange names.
B.She realized her dreams by advertising them.
C.She was ashamed of being against the social norm.
D.She made full use of them to promote public awareness.
6.What can we infer about the author
A.She longs to help those identical to her.
B.She is an ambitious but stubborn person.
C.She specializes in tailoring her clothes by herself.
D.She holds the tallest record shorter than the former.
7.What is the best title of the text
A.I Am the Tallest Woman in the World
B.My Rare Genetic Condition Makes Travel Tough
C.The Taller You Are,the More Positive You Will Be
D.Being Too Tall Bans Me from Realizing My Dreams

While many dog owners would like to know what their pet does all day while left home alone, they don’t necessarily want a bunch of cameras placed inside their house. The PetTrack system offers a less annoying alternative,as it keeps_tabs_on pets via radio signals.
Created by a team of scientists at the Georgia Institute of Technology,PetTrack consists of three wirelessly connected parts:a sensor that’s worn by the dog on its collar,a few ultra-wideband radio transceivers(收发器) placed around the home, and a central data collection module.
As the dog walks from one place to another,it gets closer to some of the transceivers and farther away from others. These changes in distance can be detected by the system based on the amount of time that is spent between a radio signal being sent by each transceiver, and a response being received from the dog-worn sensor.By continuously analyzing how far the dog is from each transceiver, the central data collection module is able to triangulate(对……作三角测量)the animal’s present location within the house. It additionally receives data from an accelerometer in the dog’s sensor, which it analyzes to determine the animal’s current body position.
The data collection module relays all this information to an Internet-connected app on the user’s smartphone, via the home’s Wi-Fi network. As a result, whenever and wherever the user wants, they can open the app to check where the dog is.They can also view a record of where it’s been and what positions it’s been in throughout the day.
A single PetTrack system can monitor up to four pets at once, providing updates once a second. And unlike a camera-based system, there’s no risk of hackers taking advantage of it to watch users in their homes,or to see where their valuables are located.
There’s presently no word on when PetTrack may be commercialized. For now,you can only see a demonstration of the model.

A.It can monitor up to four pets at a time.
B.It will soon replace a camera-based system.
C.It has potential risk of being used by hackers.
D.It remains to be seen when it’ll be on the market.

“Don’t pass to Makayla,” Olivia’s teammate Jordan whispered.“She’s not serious about soccer,” said Jordan as she adjusted her Orange Team shirt. The score was tied,1-1,after halftime.
Thinking about what Jordan had said,Olivia got into position for the second half.As the center midfielder,Olivia loved to pass. She also loved it when all her teammates, including Makayla, had the chance to touch the ball. But Jordan was right.Makayla hardly ever took a shot.
After the judge blew the whistle(哨子) to start,Olivia received the ball from Jordan. She dribbled(运球) it,keeping it close.Jordan called for the ball, but was surrounded by the Green Team’s defense.Directly across from Olivia,Makayla waved her arms. She was all by herself.Hesitantly,Olivia passed the ball to her.But her shot missed, and the ball rolled out of bounds.
“I told you,” Jordan said, shaking her head.Probably Jordan was right.Olivia needed to find a way to pass the ball to Jordan, the team’s top scorer,to win the game.
After the Green Team threw in the ball from the sideline,Olivia received it and this time she pushed the ball to Jordan.Jordan received the ball, turned, and shot toward the far corner of the goal.Still, they failed.
As the other team set up for a goal kick,Olivia saw Makayla still standing inside the 18-yard box.The judge signaled her to move. The Orange Team wasn’t allowed there. When Makayla ran toward Olivia, she tripped and fell.“Are you OK?” Olivia asked.Makayla upped and rubbed(揉) her knees.“Yep,I know I’m still learning, but I love soccer.” “Me too,” Olivia said.
The Green Team rocketed a kick.Olivia stepped in front of her defender and trapped the ball.Jordan called for a pass, but she wasn’t open.Olivia held on to the ball. She cut right, then left, leaving a defender in the dust. With the ball at her feet, she looked up and there was Makayla, wide open in front of the net.

The traditional Chinese culture item I introduce is dian cha,a kind of tea art popular in the Song Dynasty. The technique begins with pouring hot water over powdered tea to create a paste. Then, more hot water is slowly added as the tea is constantly whisked by hand with a bamboo stick. This action of pouring hot water is called dian, giving this art the name dian cha.
I appreciate it because it is unique in the world.Besides,it makes drinking tea more enjoyable, which also gives us an insight into people’s lifestyle in the Song Dynasty.

With another defender closely behind to attack,Olivia had no choice.Olivia could only pass the ball to Makayla, but inside she didn’t want to pass it to her.She wanted to pass it to Jordan.Makayla was standing in front of the net, excited to receive a pass from Olivia, when one of the Green players lunged at Makayla, trying to block Makayla’s goal.Makayla split the ball to her right, eluded the other player, and then volleyed it,which then deceived the goalkeeper and sailed safely into the goal.
The crowd broke into thunderous applause and cheers.Makayla was shocked. She didn’t expect it.That’s when her teammates, running toward her, especially Jordan, hugged Makayla. She thanked Makayla for kicking the ball in and saving the team.Olivia came over and told Jordan that football is a team game—we need to work together and trust each player. It was inspiring that they persevered and won the game.
