When I was in middle school,my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest.I said no without thinking.I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil,so English was only my second language.Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So,why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail His reply:“Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself,I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words,I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject.Paul Revere was a silversmith(银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18,1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny;and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think,as he sped through the night Did he get tired Have doubts Did he want to quit I sympathized immediately.I got tired.I had doubts.I wanted to quit. But,like Revere’s horse,I kept going.I worked hard.I checked my spelling.I asked my older sister to correct my grammar.I checked out a half-dozen books on Paul Revere from the library.I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher,he read it,laughed out loud, and said,“Great. Now,write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it,the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win,I wouldn’t care.

Who(人物) my social studies teacher and I
When(时间) when I was in middle school

What(事件) My social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest.
Why(起因) Encouraged by his words,I agreed to give it a try.
How(结果) 续写中介绍
(1)When I was in middle school,my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest.I said no without thinking.(时间状语从句;非谓语动词)
(2)Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.(动名词作主语;结果状语从句;定语从句;“否定词+比较级”表示最高级)
(3)...why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail?(定语从句)
(4)Encouraged by his words,I agreed to give it a try.(过去分词短语作状语)
(5)If I didn’t win,I wouldn’t care.(虚拟语气)
It was the day of the big cross-country run.Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route(路线) through thick evergreen forest.
I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old.His usual big toothy smile was absent today.I walked over and asked him why he wasn’t with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run.
What was wrong He had worked so hard for this event!
I quickly searched the crowd for the school’s coach and asked him what had happened.“I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him,” he explained uncomfortably.“I gave him the choice to run or not,and let him decide.”
I bit back my frustration(懊恼).I knew the coach meant well—he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted,I turned to find him coming towards me,his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward.
David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid.He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team.It just took him longer—that’s all.David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children,he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school,I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination.

(2)情感线:happy→____________→frustrated→____________

Step 1:写第二段尾句(主题升华句);
Step 2:写第一段尾句;
Step 3:根据第一段首句写第一段的第二句;
Step 4:根据第二段首句写第二段的第二句;
Step 5:
第一段 Step 3:衔接句2(首句后的第一句): ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ (情节发展的细节内容待补) Step 2:衔接句1(段尾句): ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ 第二段 Step 4:衔接句3(首句后的第一句): ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ (情节发展的细节内容待补) Step 1:主题升华句(段尾句): ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________
第一段内容框架 根据第一段所给的段首句“A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news.”以及第二段首句“I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation.”
①No more words could convey my gratitude to him.It was he who made me realize nothing is impossible to a willing heart.
②Since then,my teacher’s encouraging words, just like a lighthouse in the mist, would always be lighting in the sky of my life.
③Then he pointed that my passion, devotion and persistence contributed to my success.“Just like the horse you wrote,he got tired and had doubts, but he kept going.”
④I benefit a lot from my loved teacher. His painstaking care and encouragement will influence my lifetime.
⑤After that, his words have echoed in my ears for many years, and every time I start writing,I will think of my teacher. He taught me how to believe in myself and guided me towards a bright future.
①From then on,not only did I have a good command of writing, but I also knew the truth—fear never builds the future, but hope does.
②Only then did I realize that it was bravery and determination that can conquer all the difficulties.Hard work paid off eventually.
Step 2:
①When the award presentation finished,I felt a mixture of feelings.I wanted to say something to my teacher.
②With the prize cup in one hand and award certificate in the other hand,I threw my eyes at my teacher, who gave me a thumbs-up,with his eyes twinkling with pleasure and pride. It was at that moment that I was overwhelmed with gratitude to my teacher.
③I explained why I chose this special subject and even acted out one-role play as Revere’s horse on the stage, which made the audience laugh out.In the end,I showed my gratitude to the horse rider—my social studies teacher.
④Everything went smoothly and I was surrounded by flowers and applause. However, the person with whom I desired to share my joy was my teacher.
⑤Patiently and confidently,I told the audience how I once didn’t love writing and now enjoyed writing and how I realized the value of perseverance with the help of my teacher.
Step 3:
第一段所给首句是“A few weeks later,when I almost forgot the contest,there came the news.”(几个星期后,当我几乎忘记比赛的时候,传来了消息)。
①It was exciting to learn that I had gained the first prize and an award ceremony would be held in three days.
②I received a phone call, and it was from the organization that said I had won the grand prize.
③“You won the first prize in the writing contest,” one of my classmates rushed to my desk.
④The moment I saw my name on the top of the first prize list, surprise and joy occupied my mind.
⑤My teacher walked into the classroom,a shining bright smile being on his face, announcing I won the first place in the writing contest when everyone was surprised in disbelief firstly but then gave me thunderous applause.
Step 4:
第二段所给首句是“I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation.”(颁奖后我去了老师的办公室)。
①“Thank you very much!” I showed my certificate to him with my eyes watering,“Without you,I couldn’t have done it.”
②Bathed in the enjoyment,he waved at me and expressed his congratulations.
③The teacher walked towards me excitedly and gave me a big hug, saying,“Congratulations, boy.”

A MOTHER’S DAY SURPRISE
The twins were filled with excitement as they thought of the surprise they were planning for Mother’s Day.How pleased and proud Mother would be when they brought her breakfast in bed. They planned to make French toast and chicken porridge. They had watched their mother in the kitchen. There was nothing to it.Jenna and Jeff knew exactly what to do.
The big day came at last. The alarm rang at 6 a.m.The pair went down the stairs quietly to the kitchen. They decided to boil the porridge first. They put some rice into a pot of water and left it to boil while they made the French toast.Jeff broke two eggs into a plate and added in some milk.Jenna found the bread and put two slices into the egg mixture.Next,Jeff turned on the second stove burner to heat up the frying pan.Everything was going smoothly until Jeff started frying the bread. The pan was too hot and the bread turned black within seconds.Jenna threw the burnt piece into the sink and put in the other slice of bread. This time, she turned down the fire so it cooked nicely.
Then Jeff noticed steam shooting out of the pot and the lid starting to shake. The next minute, the porridge boiled over and put out the fire.Jenna panicked.Thankfully,Jeff stayed calm and turned off the gas quickly. But the stove was a mess now.Jenna told Jeff to clean it up so they could continue to cook the rest of the porridge. But Jeff’s hand touched the hot burner and he gave a cry of pain.Jenna made him put his hand in cold water. Then she caught the smell of burning.Oh dear! The piece of bread in the pan had turned black as well.

3.Negative—Positive
1.原文中当老师让“我”参加比赛时,“我”的反应是马上拒绝“I said no without thinking.I did not love writing.”,续写第一段中“我”得到获奖消息后增加了自信,可以写“The recognition cleared all my self-doubt and filled up my lack of self-confidence greatly.”,这样就自然地照应了文本中的伏笔内容。
2.原文第二段最后提到“Encouraged by his words,I agreed to give it a try.”,因此续写的第一段作者在领奖时会想到老师的鼓励,所以可以写“The encouragement from my social studies teacher came into my mind.”
3.原文第四段提到“I asked my older sister to correct my grammar.”,故在第一段续写中可以写得知获奖消息后第一时间分享给姐姐来照应。
第一次“No one laughed harder than he did.”;第二次“When I handed in the essay to my teacher,he read it,laughed out loud, and said...”。 第二段老师打开办公室的门见到“我”后高兴的样子可以写“No one laughed harder than he did in the office. But this time, instead of playing jokes on me,he conveyed his sincere appreciation of my achievements in that laughter.”。
5.原文第一段提到“My family came from Brazil,so English was only my second language.”,因此续写第二段的结尾时可以写“No longer did I feel inferior to others as a second language learner...”;原文第一段提到“I did not love writing.”,因此续写第二段的结尾时可以写“...and never did I feel so keen on writing from then on.”。
6.原文中多次提到“马”,比如“I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject.”“from the horse’s mouth”“But,like Revere’s horse,I kept going.”。既然主人公参赛的作品是从“马”的角度来叙述的,那么我们可以在续写结尾处以“马”来比喻主人公未来不知疲倦地继续写作之路“Despite the challenges and odds laying ahead,I never stopped writing, like Revere’s horse never stopped speeding that night.”。

The Meredith family lived in a small community. As the economy was in decline, some people in the town had lost their jobs. Many of their families were struggling to make ends meet.People were trying to help each other meet the challenges.
Mrs Meredith was a most kind and thoughtful woman. She spent a great deal of time visiting the poor. She knew they had problems, and they needed all kinds of help. When she had time, she would bring food and medicine to them.
One morning she told her children about a family she had visited the day before. There was a man sick in bed,his wife, who took care of him and could not go out to work, and their little boy.The little boy—his name was Bernard—had interested her very much.
“I wish you could see him,” she said to her own children,John,Harry, and Clara.“He is such a help to his mother. He wants very much to earn some money, but I don’t see what he can do.”
After their mother left the room, the children sat thinking about Bernard.“I wish we could help him to earn money,” said Clara.“His family is suffering so much.”
“So do I,” said Harry.“We really should do something to assist them.”
For some moments,John said nothing, but, suddenly,he sprang to his feet and cried,“I have a great idea!I have a solution that we can all help accomplish(完成).”
The other children also jumped up all attention. When John had an idea,it was sure to be a good one.“I tell you what we can do,” said John.“You know that big box of corn Uncle John sent us?Well,we can make popcorn(爆米花),and put it into paper bags, and Bernard can take it around to the houses and sell it.”

I had an interesting childhood. It was filled with surprises and amusements, all because of my mother—loving, sweet, yet absent-minded and forgetful. One strange family trip we took when I was eleven tells a lot about her.
Despite mom’s being absent-minded and forgetful, she is still a kind and nice mom.
It was summer, and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before. He decided to take me on a trip to the Wild West.
Never had I had such a thrilling yet dangerous vacation before. The special trip to the Wild West was deeply engraved in my mind.
A funny thing happened to Arthur when he was on the way to work one day.
What a funny day!Arthur couldn’t stop laughing whenever he looked back on this funny experience.
(1)(2023·新课标Ⅰ,Ⅱ) Since then,my teacher’s encouraging words, just like a lighthouse in the mist, would always be lighting in the sky of my life.

(4) (2020·新课标Ⅰ,Ⅱ)It is love that makes the world go round;just as a saying goes,“The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose.”

With a shadow of a happy family cast on the window,I felt my little sister was the best gift I’d ever got.

(5)In the heavy snow, passion and love burnt as they hugged and smiled.

Whenever I...,the sight of her doing sth will invariably appear vividly before my eyes:...如:
Whenever I stand looking about on the steps leading to the room, the sight of her saying goodbye to our home for the last time will invariably appear vividly before my eyes:Neatly dressed, she looked somewhat impatient and melancholy and meanwhile also seemed to feel quite hopeful about things to come.

I used to be very active in sports and games when I was in primary school.I won the B Division long jump and was a good sprinter(短跑运动员).As a result,I was chosen to represent the school in the long jump and relay events at the District Sports Meet. Before the sports meet,I had put in a lot of hard work and dedication during the training sessions.I woke up early every morning to go for runs and did countless drills to improve my technique. My teammates and I supported and encouraged each other during the training, pushing ourselves to do better and achieve our goals.
The meet lasted two days.I had no events scheduled for the first day,so I kept myself busy by watching the others compete.Large tents were provided for the young competitors on one side of the track.Despite being assigned the last tent that was furthest from the track,I made the best of the situation by decorating it with our school colors and creating a supportive atmosphere.
The next day,I was getting ready for my events. The long jump was scheduled for the early afternoon, followed by the 8×50m relay later in the afternoon.I thought I was a pretty good jumper, but as the competition began,I realized I was vastly outclassed. We finished our jumps, and I came in fourth place, just missing out on a medal.
That was disappointing, but I reminded myself that we still had a chance in the 8×50m relay, for which I was assigned to run the fifth leg.The race date arrived. We filed into our assigned spots and prepared for the race. After a tense minute or so,I heard the starter’s gun go off. When the first runners took off,I watched nervously and excitedly as my team runners kept up with the others. As they got closer,I realized we were at least in second place.

I looked up from my desk to see the teacher writing on the board:“Battle of the Books!” She smiled and said,“This time it’s a team work. You’re going to be in teams of two,and set a reading goal.Every team that meets their goal by the end of the month will get a prize!” The lunch bell sounded before she could explain any more rules.
As I gathered my things,Liya passed my desk and said,“Teammates?” Since Liya and I shared the same interest in graphic novel(漫画小说),and we took Hindi language class together,we teamed up automatically.I was both relieved and excited to have my team. Then we got to the cafeteria and quickly threw out a bunch of ideas of what to do at our table.
I looked to our third friend Kash, with whom the three of us always do stuff together,“Kash,do you have ideas for us?” “Why would I give you guys ideas?” he said gloomily(阴沉地).“I’ll save that for my team...whoever that is.Now I see how I rank in the friendship line-up.” Kash replied in an angry tone.
I knew he was mad for a reason. If I were him,not only would I think that I ranked last in that group, but I’d also be panicking about what team I could join. But now,I was on the inside and Kash wasn’t.I felt like the only way to fix this would be three people on a team. So,as the teacher walked by our table,I asked for her permission. What surprised me was that she had intended to draw names to assign random groups, but didn’t get a chance to say it before lunch.
Awkward and frustrated,we were stuck in this dilemma.Having first teamed up without Kash didn’t mean we didn’t like him.I knew we—especially I—wouldn’t be able to enjoy any prize if our friend felt bad about being left out. So,I decided to do something to make it up for him and convince Kash he was an equal friend.

The day when the jobs were handed out was one of the most exciting for all the children in the class. It took place during the first week of the term.On that day, every boy and girl was given a job for which they would be responsible for the rest of that school year.
As everything else, some jobs were more interesting, and the children were eager to be given one of the interesting ones. When giving them out,the teacher took into account which children had been most responsible during the previous year, and those children were usually the ones who most looked forward to this day.Among them Rita stood out.She was a kind and quiet girl;and during the previous year she had carried out the teacher’s instructions perfectly. All the children knew Rita was the favourite to be given the best job of all—to look after the class dog.
But this year there was a big surprise. Each child received one of the normal jobs, like preparing the books or the radio for the lessons, telling the time, cleaning the blackboard, and looking after one of the pets. But Rita’s job was very different. She was given a little box containing some sand and some ants. And even though the teacher insisted that they were very special ants,Rita couldn’t help feeling disappointed.Anyway, she accepted the task. Most of her classmates felt sorry for her. They sympathised with her and remarked on how unfair it was that she had been given that job.Even Rita’s father felt sorry for her,and as an act of protest,he told Rita to pay no attention to this insignificant pet. However,Rita, who liked her teacher very much, preferred to show the teacher her ability by doing something special with such an insignificant task.“I will turn this ‘little task’ into something great,” Rita said to herself.

“Why are we bringing groceries for Mrs Killinger?” Bobby asked his mother,Anna,as they walked back from the supermarket with a few extra bags for their elderly neighbor. He enjoyed helping his mother with these tasks, but they had never bought anything for any neighbor before.
“Honey,Mrs Killinger is now having trouble walking around,so I offered to bring some things from the market,” Anna explained as they climbed up the wooden steps to Mrs Killinger’s house and rang the doorbell.
“OK,but she could get a wheelchair and move around,” the boy commented as if it was the most straightforward solution in the world.
“You know,Bobby.Mrs Killinger doesn’t have the money to buy one right now. They can get expensive,” Anna explained, and Bobby pursed his lips in thought.
Mrs Killinger answered the door, smiled, and invited them for some coffee and cookies.Bobby noticed how slowly she moved, and an idea formed in his mind.He told the older woman and his mother all about it,and they grinned at him indulgently(宽容地).Neither of them thought Bobby would do it.
That’s why Anna was surprised the following day when Bobby had made several ads.“Mom,can you add your phone number here,so people can call me with work?”
“Oh,honey. This is very sweet. But I don’t know if it’ll be enough to raise the money she needs to buy a wheelchair,” Anna explained. She loved that her son had such a big heart, but she didn’t want him to be heartbroken if no one called or he couldn’t raise the money.
“Well,at least,I can say that I tried to help,” Bobby chirped(欢快地说) with his bright smile and eager eyes.Anna nodded and added her phone number to the ads.In his ads,Bobby offered his “services” which included helping with shopping, mowing lawns, keeping company, and walking dogs.He also left the price of his services, which made Anna smile. He honestly just wanted to help.

One fall,my wife Elli and I had a single goal:to photograph polar bears. We were staying at a research camp outside “the polar bear capital of the world” —the town of Churchill in Manitoba,Canada.
Taking pictures of polar bears is amazing but also dangerous.Polar bears—like all wild animals—should be photographed from a safe distance. When I’m face to face with a polar bear,I like it to be through a camera with a telephoto lens. But sometimes, that is easier said than done. This was one of those times.
As Elli and I cooked dinner,a young male polar bear who was playing in a nearby lake sniffed, and smelled our garlic bread.
The hungry bear followed his nose to our camp, which was surrounded by a high wire fence. He pulled and bit the wire.He stood on his back legs and pushed at the wooden fence posts.
Terrified,Elli and I tried all the bear defense actions we knew.We yelled at the bear, hit pots hard, and fired blank shotgun shells into the air.Sometimes loud noises like these will scare bears off.Not this polar bear though—he just kept trying to tear down the fence with his massive paws.
I radioed the camp manager for help.He told me a helicopter was on its way,but it would be 30 minutes before it arrived.Making the best of this close encounter,I took some pictures of the bear.
Elli and I feared the fence wouldn’t last through 30 more minutes of the bear’s punishment. The camp manager suggested I use pepper spray. The spray burns the bears’ eyes, but doesn’t hurt them.So I approached our uninvited guest slowly and, through the fence, sprayed him in the face. With an angry roar(吼叫),the bear ran to the lake to wash his eyes.

I was invited to a cookout on an old friend’s farm in Western Washington.I parked my car outside the farm and walked past a milking house which had apparently not been used in many years.A noise at a window caught my attention,so I entered it.It was a hummingbird(蜂鸟),desperately trying to escape. She was covered in spider-webs(蛛网) and was barely able to move her wings. She ceased her struggle the instant I picked her up.
With the bird in my cupped hand,I looked around to see how she had gotten in.The broken window glass was the likely answer.I stuffed a piece of cloth into the hole and took her outside, closing the door securely behind me.
When I opened my hand, the bird did not fly away;she sat looking at me with her bright eyes.I removed the sticky spider-webs that covered her head and wings.Still, she made no attempt to fly.Perhaps she had been struggling against the window too long and was too tired Or too thirsty
As I carried her up the blackberry-lined path toward my car where I kept a water bottle, she began to move.I stopped, and she soon took wing but did not immediately fly away.
Hovering(悬停),she approached within six inches of my face. For a very long moment, this tiny creature looked into my eyes, turning her head from side to side. Then she flew quickly out of sight.
During the cookout,I told my hosts about the hummingbird incident. They promised to fix the window. As I was departing,my friends walked me to my car.I was standing by the car when a hummingbird flew to the center of our group and began hovering. She turned from person to person until she came to me.She again looked directly into my eyes, then let out a squeaking call and was gone. For a moment, all were speechless. Then someone said,“She must have come to say goodbye.”

A few weeks later,I went to the farm again. As my car neared it my thoughts drifted back to the moment when I rescued the hummingbird from the spider’s webs.I rushed back to the deserted house. It was a great comfort that the original hole in the window was nowhere to be found.Leaving the house,I couldn’t help wondering how it was getting on now.Had it managed to find its way back home,or was it still out there somewhere struggling to survive? I was just about to leave when the hummingbird appeared.A flash of movement caught my attention.I turned around to see the same hummingbird hovering in the air.It seemed that the bird was waiting for me,its beady eyes locked on mine as if trying to convey some deep, unspoken gratitude.I felt a surge of relief and awe at the sight of this sound and grateful creature, and I knew that I would always cherish the memories we shared as I climbed into my car and drove away. 1. 结尾升华句“...I would always cherish the memories we shared...” 第一段第二句“As my car neared it my thoughts drifted back to the moment when I rescued the hummingbird from the spider’s webs.” 同样,第二段第二、三句“A flash of movement caught my attention.I turned around to see the same hummingbird hovering in the air.”

We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me.Sitting on the roadside with his head down,David kept silent.“I know you have made full preparations for the run,” I put my palm on his back and persuaded him to take part in the run.“Ignore what the players from other teams would say and I believe you could make it!” Hearing my words,David beamed a big smile, stood up and moved towards the starting line.
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. I followed him to the starting line.Looking at his determined face,I was touched by his courage. When the run began, every runner rushed forward like a flash after hearing the starting pistol.Though trying hard,David was left far behind. However,he went all out to keep up with the others, his small body rocking from side to side, showing no sign of giving up.Worn out,David reached the finishing line and all the students cheered up for him.“Congratulations!”The coach came closer and proudly claimed.David showed his usual big toothy smile.

根据第一段所给的段首句“As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared.” 由第二段首句“The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up.”

As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared.Seeing the mess in the kitchen,he immediately understood what had happened, but he wasn’t upset.Instead,he applied some medicine to Jeff’s hand, and then set out to help them clean up the mess, throwing away the burnt toast.Next, they began to make breakfast, and by now the twins looked cheerful. Before long, the porridge was ready.Their father instructed them to fry the rest of the bread.Soon, the breakfast was ready, too.
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up.Opening her eyes, she couldn’t believe what she had seen. Before she could ask any question, their father turned up and told his wife about how the twins had made preparations to give her the surprise breakfast, and what trouble they had gone through when making the porridge and toast.Disbelief gave way to excitement and pride.Hugging them in her arms, she said,“Thank you, children. It’s such an unforgettable Mother’s Day for me.”

When Mrs.Meredith heard of John’s idea, she thought it was a good one, too. So she praised John for his proposal, and offered him some advice.Very soon the children were busy popping the corn, while their mother went out to buy the paper bags. When she came back, she brought Bernard with her.All the children came surrounding Bernard and they gave a basket to Bernard. The basket was full of paper bags which were filled with popcorn.
With everything ready,Bernard started out on his new business. And much sooner than could be expected,Bernard returned with an empty basket.Never before had he earned so much money in his life. When he found that it was all to be his,he was so happy that he could hardly speak, but his bright smiling face spoke for him.People began to watch for the “little popcorn boy”,who earned some money to take home every week. All this was because of John’s bright idea.

A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news.To everyone’s surprise,I,an immigrant, won the first place in the writing contest.Hearing the good news,I felt a sense of joy surging through me.I leapt into the air and shouted out loud,“I made it!” During the award presentation ceremony,I was invited to deliver a speech.Patiently and confidently,I told the audience how I once didn’t love writing and now enjoyed writing and how I realized the value of perseverance with the help of my teacher.
I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. With the trophy in hand,I entered the office. My teacher rose from the seat and came up to me.“Congratulations!” he said, slapping me on the back.He grinned from ear to ear as I showed him the trophy.“I owe my success to you.”I said sincerely,“Without your encouragement and belief,I wouldn’t have succeeded.”He laughed, his eyes shining with excitement.“I knew you had it in you.I’m proud of you for not giving up.” Whenever looking back on this incident,I feel extremely grateful to him.It was my social studies teacher who encouraged me to realize my potential and thus changed the trajectory of my life.

My turn arrived and I took the baton(接力棒) cleanly and began my run.The air rushed past me as I moved closer to the next runner. Then disaster struck! I saw a boy run across the track into my path out of nowhere.I couldn’t get away from him fast enough. We were sent somersaulting over him after colliding with a crunch.Because I was young and agile,I was able to quickly pick myself up and continue the race. However, the collision cost us valuable time.I handed the baton to the next runner.I knew everything was lost when he ran with all his might, but it was too late. We’d blown our chance at a medal.
As a result,I left the meet empty-handed.As a result,we just assumed it was bad luck.I,for one, felt terrible for letting the team down, but what was done was done, and we had no choice but to accept it.Anyway,it was an eventful but unsatisfying day for me.I have learned about failure and success and how to deal with them, and I am now grateful for the lessons.

That night,I was struck by an idea as I read a graphic novel that all three of us liked.Thrilled and inspired,I sprang in front of my desk, racked my brains and started drawing a few scenes of three of us giggling, chattering and enjoying each other’s company like we usually did.On the last page,I wrote,“Dear Kash, you are not the one left behind.Liya and I are so sorry about the way we messed things up.” Pierced to the heart with guilt,I gingerly tucked the paintings into an envelope, hoping this would be an icebreaker.
The next day,I handed my pages of apology to Kash.He took it,looking surprised at the first sight. After he read it,an expression of intense joy illuminated his eyes.Blushed,I broke the silence,“I’m sorry, dude. We should have talked to you.” With her eyes fixed on the floor,Liya came over and apologized in a low voice,“You mean a lot to us.” Hearing her words,Kash shook his head and beamed,“I was way too sensitive.” We exchanged a knowing smile, realizing that sincerity, trust and communication were always the key to clearing up the misunderstanding between friends.

To learn more about her little ants,Rita turned to Dr.Martinez,a famous entomologist(昆虫学家).With his help, she learned about the incredible abilities of these tiny creatures, such as their strength and organization.Rita became fascinated by the ants and started studying them with great interest. She observed their behavior, their interactions, and their construction of tunnels and mounds. She even started a small ant farm at home, carefully monitoring the growth and development of the colony.Rita realized that her seemingly insignificant task was actually a great opportunity to learn and explore the wonders of nature.
Several months later, one day,Dr.Martinez came to Rita’s class to choose a young assistant. He was looking for a bright and curious student who had shown a genuine interest in the world of insects. To everyone’s surprise,he chose Rita. She was overjoyed and felt that her hard work and dedication had paid off.As Dr.Martinez’s assistant,Rita had the opportunity to work alongside him, learning about different types of insects, their habitats, and their roles in the ecosystem. She traveled with him to different places to collect samples, and even got to participate in a research project on ant behavior.

A few minutes later, the bear headed back to our camp.Roars and screams pierced the silence with needle-like shrillness. The noises turned Elli and I pale with horror.I feared that the giant would destroy our whole fence. He roared repeatedly, shattering what was left of the silence.Elli seized this opportunity to take some pictures of the bear. The animal’s noises echoed all around us.We betrayed our feelings by huddling together, shivering with fear. After thoroughly scrutinizing the area,he trotted forward a few steps.
At that very moment, the helicopter arrived. My heart leaped with joy as I knew we were likely to be saved.Elli used pepper spray again to buy us enough time. But this time the bear became more alert. He regarded us with the merciless necessity of hunger,so we threw all the food we had.He then turned away and started devouring. As we were climbing the rope ladder,Elli prayed like a thousand times to show thankfulness of being safe and sound.

Dora watched her bird in silence. She found her bird kept looking out of the window. In the trees outside, many birds were playing gladly. She thought that perhaps her bird didn’t like being kept in the cage at all.Just as she missed staying with her friends,it also wanted to go out to play like other birds. But before she got sick, she didn’t think a lot about her bird. Now Dora realized she shouldn’t selfishly take away its freedom for her own enjoyment.
She decided to let go of the bird. When her mother came inside,Dora told her mother about her decision. She said,“Mom,can you set my bird free?” Her mother was surprised and asked why.“I’m sure it also wants friends,” said Dora. Her mother agreed. She opened the cage and the bird cheerfully flew out of the window and disappeared soon.A few days later,Dora could play with her friends again. How excited she was! And when she looked out at the birds in the trees, she knew her bird must be very happy at that moment.
