Including a healthy diet and exercise in one’s busy schedule isn’t that easy. Yet Martina Laird, 31, managed to do so.
I’ve always loved power walking. I was in theatre in Stratford a few years ago and used to walk along a disused railway line. The sights are beautiful and it was so relaxing a type of walking meditation (沉思) with headphones on. I find gyms terrible and boring. I can’t see the point in getting a personal trainer. I don’t like the idea of having someone beside me while I exercise.
I don’t own a car, which means I walk everywhere. It really keeps me fit. I’d love to get a mountain bike. Bristol, where we film, has so many hills that cycling back from work each day would be an amazing exercise on its own.
I love fine food, but I don’t eat red meat or dairy products (奶制品). Cutting out bread has also made an amazing difference to my health. I have so much more energy. I always stick to healthy food and make my own juices for breakfast. When it’s freezing cold, I make my soups and take them to work. But I’m not perfect. I have my days of reaching for the biscuits. I also like to eat candies in the evening. They have left a bad influence on my teeth. I really want to stop and I’m giving it a try.
I’m really happy with my health and I’m about 75% happy with myself. But like any woman, I still a little admire that other 25%. As a woman in this profession, you can’t help comparing yourself to your workmates. There’s some pressure to be thin on TV, but I’m a role model and I don’t want to put out the message to young viewers that being underweight is healthy. You can only make the most of what you’ve got.
4. What exercise does Martina dream of
A. Power walking. B. Riding bicycles.
C. Training in the gym. D. Climbing mountains.
5. Which of the following does Martina mean to quit
A. Red meat. B. Dairy products. C. Candies. D. Juices.
6. What is Martina’s profession
A. She is an athlete. B. She is an actress.
C. She is a personal trainer. D. She is a fashion designer.
7. What may be the text
A. An advertisement. B. A health instruction.
C. A self-introduction. D. An interview report.

The annual Redhead Days Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands, drew thousands of red-haired people from around the world in August, 2023. The three-day event is a celebration of red hair, a feature only shared by only 1%-2% of the global population. And although redheads can be found all over the world, the numbers are higher for people from the north of Europe, where the rate (比率) is between 2% and 6%.
For many attendees, like 30-year-old Scottish Liam Hunter, the festival is an opportunity to feel a sense of belonging and self-acceptance. Hunter, who has experienced bullying (霸凌) due to his hair color, expressed a sense of satisfaction and unity at the event. “I don’t feel alone anymore. I feel together, a part of something,” he said.
The event, which attracted about 5, 000 redheads from various countries, offered a range of activities including painting workshops, make-up and skincare knowledge, photo shoots, musical performances, and speed-meet events.
Interestingly, the festival’s start was somewhat accidental. Bart Rouwenhorst, an artist and the event’s organizer, placed an advertisement in the local newspaper in 2005 seeking 15 red- haired models for a painting project. Surprisingly, he received responses from 150 individuals. Although Rouwenhorst is not a redhead himself, he decided to organize a group photo with all the respondents. The gathering got much attention and was considered a success, leading the organizers to establish it as an annual event.
Now the festival serves as a special stage for redheads to celebrate their differences, develop a sense of community, and raise awareness about the challenges they face, such as bullying and increased sensitivity (过敏) to the sun. It also provides an opportunity for non-redheads to learn about and appreciate the uniqueness of red hair.
8. What can we learn from the first paragraph
A. Redheads celebrate their festival with various activities.
B. Red hair is a common disease among the global population.
C. The Redhead Days Festival is celebrated around the world.
D. Population in northern Europe has a higher rate of redheads.
9. What does Hunter’s experience tell us
A. The redheads enjoy a high social position. B. The redheads take pride in their difference.
C. The redheads face discrimination sometimes. D. The redheads have trouble keeping up with others.
10. What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A. The origin of the festival. B. The popularity of the festival.
C. Customs during the festival. D. Activities during the festival.
11. Which of the following can best describe the event
A. Challenging. B. Informal. C. Remarkable. D. Meaningless.
D
A pond in Hawaii has turned so pink that it could be from the Barbie movie-but it’s no cause for a dance party. Drought may be reason for the strange color, scientists say, and they’re warning against entering the water or drinking it.
Workers at the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge (遇难所) on the island of Maui have been watching the situation of the pink water since October 30, 2023, after getting a phone call from somebody who was walking on the beach.
“I just got a report from somebody who was walking on the beach, and they called me up like ‘There’s something weird going on over here’,” said Bret Wolfe, the refuge manager.
Wolfe was concerned the bright pink could be a sign of an event called an algae bloom (绿藻泛地), but lab tests found such algae was not causing the color. Instead, an organism (微生物) called halobacteria might be the cause.
Halobacteria are a type of organism that lives in bodies of water with high levels of salt. The salinity (盐度) inside the Kealia Pond outlet area is now greater than 70 parts per thousand, which is twice the salinity of seawater. Wolfe said they will need to study the DNA to confirm the organism.
Maui’s drought is likely leading to the situation. Normally Waikapu Stream feeds into Kealia Pond and raises water levels there, but Wolfe said that hasn’t happened in a long time.
When it rains, the stream will flow into Kealia’s main pond and then into the outlet area that’s now pink. This will reduce the salinity and potentially change the water’s color.
The refuge has seen an increase in visitors after photos of the pink pond were posted on social media. Wolfe said he would love to have visitors come to learn about local aims to protect nature.
But officials have announced a special warning for people not to enter the water or eat any fish caught there.
12. What does the underlined word “weird” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Unusual. B. Attractive. C. Impossible. D. Dangerous.
13. Why are halobacteria considered to be the cause of the colour
A. Their DNA has been studied. B. They usually live in seawater.
C The salinity in the pond is now much greater. D. They did the same thing a short time ago.
14. What will the refuge do next
A. Clear the halobacteria away. B. Keep on studying the problem.
C. Add some fresh water to the pond. D. Stop people from visiting the pond.
15. What is the best title for the text
A. Climate change has caught serious drought in Hawaii.
B. A pond in Hawaii has become famous for a Barbie movie.
C. People in Hawaii are worried about water pollution.
D. A pond in Hawaii mysteriously turns bright pink.

Pip is a cute little squirrel (松鼠) from a loving family, whose mother often tells him that sharing is caring.
On a cold morning in the park, Pip was looking for a tree with enough branches to shelter him from the cold. Suddenly, he found a huge one, with many branches, and to his joy, a big, brown acorn was hanging from one of the lower ones.
Knowing how important acorns were at this time of year, Pip moved as fast as his tiny legs could carry him, and climbed up the side of the tree, heading towards the acorn. As he got close to the acorn, he thought about how hungry he was, as he hadn’t had any food for two days. He reached his paw (爪子) forward eagerly and just as he was about to take his first bite, somebody took the acorn from his paws and climbed down the tree. Angry and still hungry, Pip ran after the acorn thief, and jumped across the branches, from tree to tree. He would save his lunch, no matter what!
“Hey! Come back here! That’s my acorn. I found it, fair and square,” shouted Pip, who was out of breath.
The acorn thief was another squirrel, who Pip recognized as Rascal, a squirrel in the park who always stole food from others.
“You will never catch me, Pip! Everyone knows that you are the slowest squirrel in the park and I haven’t eaten today, so this nut is mine!” said Rascal.
Hearing Rascal make fun of him made Pip angrier and run faster. Finally, Pip caught up with Rascal. After what seemed like the longest fight ever, Pip managed to take the acorn out of Rascal’s paws and he ran as fast as he could to hide away. As Rascal tried to follow Pip, a huge tree branch fell on him and stopped him from running after the acorn. Rascal couldn’t climb over the branch and he was forced to admit defeat.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Pip happily hugged his acorn.

5 Which of the following does Martina mean to quit
A. Red meat. B. Dairy products. C. Candies. D. Juices.
6. What is Martina’s profession
A. She is an athlete. B. She is an actress.
C. She is a personal trainer. D. She is a fashion designer.
7. What may be the text
A. An advertisement. B. A health instruction.
C. A self-introduction. D. An interview report.
B 5. C 6. B 7. D

根据第四段“I also like to eat candies in the evening. They have left a bad influence on my teeth. I really want to stop and I’m giving it a try.(我晚上也喜欢吃糖果。它们对我的牙齿产生了不良影响。我真的很想停下来,我正在尝试)”可知,玛蒂娜·莱尔德打算放弃糖果,故选C项。

【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段“Including a healthy diet and exercise in one’s busy schedule isn’t that easy. Yet Martina Laird, 31, managed to do so.(在繁忙的日程中安排健康的饮食和锻炼并不那么容易。然而,31岁的玛蒂娜·莱尔德做到了。)”可推理出这是电视节目主持人的台词。再根据第二段“I’ve always loved power walking.( 我一直喜欢力量行走)”、第四段“I love fine food, but I don’t eat red meat or dairy products(我喜欢美食,但我不吃红肉或奶制品)”、以及最后一段“I’m really happy with my health and I’m about 75% happy with myself.(我对自己的健康非常满意,我对自己也有75%的满意)”可推理出,本文是一篇采访报道,故选D项。

D 9. C 10. A 11. C

根据第二段“For many attendees, like 30-year-old Scottish Liam Hunter, the festival is an opportunity to feel a sense of belonging and self-acceptance. Hunter, who has experienced bullying (霸凌) due to his hair color, expressed a sense of satisfaction and unity at the event.(对于许多参与者来说,比如30岁的苏格兰人利亚姆·亨特,这个节日是一个感受归属感和自我接纳的机会。亨特曾因自己的发色而遭受欺凌,他在活动中表达了一种满足感和团结感)”可知,亨特的经历告诉我们红头发的人有时会受到歧视。故选C。
【10题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第四段“Interestingly, the festival’s start was somewhat accidental. The gathering got much attention and was considered a success, leading the organizers to establish it as an annual event.(有趣的是,这个节日的开始有点偶然。2005年,艺术家兼活动组织者Bart Rouwenhorst在当地报纸上刊登了一则广告,为一个绘画项目寻找15名红发模特。令人惊讶的是,他收到了150个人的回复。虽然鲁文霍斯特本人并不是红发,但他还是决定和所有受访者拍一张合影。这次聚会受到了广泛的关注,被认为是一次成功的聚会,因此组织者将其确立为一年一度的活动)”可知,第四段的主要内容是节日的起源。故选A。
根据倒数第二段“The gathering got much attention and was considered a success, leading the organizers to establish it as an annual event.(这次聚会受到了广泛关注,被认为是一次成功的聚会,因此组织者将其确立为一年一度的活动)”可推知,这一活动是引人注目的。故选C。

C. The salinity in the pond is now much greater.
A 13. C 14. B 15. D
根据第一段“A pond in Hawaii has turned so pink that it could be from the Barbie movie(夏威夷的一个池塘变成了粉红色,就像芭比娃娃电影里的一样)”及划线词上一句“I just got a report from somebody who was walking on the beach, and they called me up like,(我刚接到一个在海滩上散步的人的报告,他们打电话给我…)” 故选A项。
根据第五段“Halobacteria are a type of organism that lives in bodies of water with high levels of salt. The salinity(盐度)inside the Kealia Pond outlet area is now greater than 70 parts per thousand, which is twice the salinity of seawater.(盐细菌是一种生活在高含盐量水体中的生物。现在,Kealia池塘出水口的盐度超过了千分之70,是海水盐度的两倍)”可知,人们是根据这个池塘的异常的含盐度来推测是这种细菌导致水的颜色变化。故选C项。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据第五段末句“Wolfe said they will need to study the DNA to confirm the organism.(沃尔夫说,他们需要研究DNA来确认这种生物)”可知,该机构会继续研究这个问题,以确定其真正原因。
根据第一段“A pond in Hawaii has turned so pink that it could be from the Barbie movie-but it’s no cause for a dance party. Drought may be reason for the strange color, scientists say, and they’re warning against entering the water or drinking it.(夏威夷的一个池塘变成了粉红色,就像芭比娃娃电影里的一样——但这不是举办舞会的理由。

The best choice I’ve made
Dear teacher and classmates,
In the summer vacation of my second year at middle school, my parents gave me a chance to make a decision by myself. That summer, I could choose to go on a trip to my favourite place or do some volunteer work. To be frank, I really wanted to go on a trip with them. But in the end, I chose to volunteer in the poor areas in the west of our country, which turned out to be the best choice in my life, since it helped me learn an important lesson of life. 47.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Pip happily hugged his acorn. He realized that Rascal would not be able to steal his acorn again. But as he was about to take his first delicious bite, he thought about Rascal, who had not eaten either that day, as well as his mother’s words “sharing is caring”. He realized that he should not be mean to Rascal, just because he was hungry. Pip made his way back to the branch and helped Rascal climb over it by lifting him with a smaller branch.
“Why did you help me, Pip ” asked Rascal, quite surprised. Hearing the words, Pip calmly responded, “Because my mom has told me that sharing is caring, Rascal.” Then he broke the acorn in half and handed a piece to Rascal. Together, the two tired squirrels found a tree nearby, sat there for shelter and enjoyed their acorn. After a long peace, Rascal broke the silence and promised that he would never steal others’ things any more. Slowly, a precious friendship bloomed between them, along with the spring flowers.
