The Best Natural Attractions in Mexico
Turtle Beaches
Between June and November, sea turtles return to the beaches of their birth to lay their eggs in the sand. With hunting and natural enemies threatening these species, communities have established protected nesting areas. Many are open for public viewing and participation in egg collection and baby-turtle release. Turtles are found along the Yucatán coast, in Baja Sur, on the Oaxaca coast, in Puerto Vallarta, and on Costa Alegre.
Whale-Watching
Each year between December and April, magnificent gray whales return to breed and instruct their young in the waters of Banderas Bay, fronting Puerto Vallarta, and in Los Cabos. It is a destination you can’t miss if you’re interested in marine mammals. Then you will witness how wonderful the huge creature is.
Butterfly March
Mexico is a land known for its cultural diversity, and no place drives this home more than a mountain forest where you stand surrounded by the beautiful wings of millions of monarch butterflies. The setting is the grand highlands of Michoacán, from mid-to-late November through March.

Here's the story of my growth over the past year. If anyone is inspired (激励) by this, that's wonderful.
I'd been stuck as this under-confident, fat and just frightened girl for years and years and years. Since I was a little girl, I'd been stuck like this, and I had lived a life where I'd be afraid of everything. But then it all started changing. Something clicked, and in over a period of 6 months I finally managed to stick to one of my diets, bringing me from overweight straight down to underweight. This proved ( 证明) that I could change myself.
One single time, I heard about a public speaking thing going on at my university, and for the first time, I managed to keep up the courage to go there. For the first time I was able to share my story, and able to do it in front of so many people possibly judging (评判) me, and suddenly all the fears about speaking publicly started vanishing. I never felt more confident.
This taught me I could get rid (去除) of my fears. It was from that point on that my road to change went from a rocky mess to a full-on empty highway.
Using the fact that I could change, and that I could get rid of my fears, I started working on them one by one. My fear of talking to strangers ,my fear of asking simple questions, my fear of hanging out with people, my fear of being myself... All of them were gone. And I still continue to progress to this day. I've never stopped.
4. When did the author know she could change herself

Some people say global English is no longer just controlled by British or American English, but is running free and developing uniquely local forms. Can you figure out the following terms
“I like your smile, but unlike you put your shoes on my face.” This is a way of saying “Keep off the grass.” Or “people mountain, people sea”, which means “very crowded”.
These examples are what we call Chinglish. When it comes to Chinglish, if all you know is “good good study, day day up”, you will be considered “out man”.
Nowadays, more Chinglish words have been created, for example, a Chinese idiom is translated as “smilence”, a combination by the English word “smile” and “silence”.
Chinglish usually offers a humorous look at misuses of the English language in Chinese street signs, products, and advertising. They are favored by some English-speaking tourists and visitors. Dominic Swire has been living in Beijing for a couple of years. “I think many Chinese people complain about the Chinglish and badly translated English. But you know, sometimes for us foreigners, it’s actually quite charming to see them. I think if the translations of English in China were all perfect, then something would be lost from Chinese culture.”
However, Chinglish will probably become a “cultural relic” in the near future. Beijing has made a comprehensive plan to improve foreign language services and correct Chinglish within five years. “It is very ridiculous to see Chinglish on the signs in some scenic spots. And they are a kind of barrier for communication between Chinese and people from other countries,” a Beijinger said.
Some Chinese university experts side with Chinglish. They argue that English has absorbed elements from other languages such as French and Spanish in its growth, and now it’s Chinese’s turn.
8. Which of the following statements explains what Chinglish is
A. English words which get new Chinese meanings.
B. The Chinese words which are difficult to translate.
C. The words combining English vocabulary and Chinese grammar.
D. The local words preventing foreigners from learning Chinese well.
9. Who will be called “out man” according to the passage
A. A person who knows little about Chinglish word.
B. A student who hates learning foreign languages.
C. A tourist who fails to understand local translations.
D. An expert who doesn’t support Chinglish at all.
10. Which statement about Chinglish will Swire probably agree with
A. It can show the humour of Chinese. B. It helps him to learn Chinese well.
C. It will attract more foreign tourists. D. It seems part of Chinese culture.
11. Why Chinglish is likely to become a “cultural relic” in Beijing
A. Because it has become a unique bridge between Chinese and English.
B. Because Chinglish is a chance to enrich Chinese and English.
C. Because it improves the understanding between Chinese and foreigners.
D. Because Beijing is determined to get rid of Chinglish signs.
C 9. A 10. D 11. D

根据第二段内容““I like your smile, but unlike you put your shoes on my face.” This is a way of saying “Keep off the grass.” Or “people mountain, people sea”, which means “very crowded”.
根据第三段的“When it comes to Chinglish, if all you know is “good good study, day day up”, you will be considered “out man”.( 说到中式英语,如果你只知道“good good study, day day up”,你就会被认为是“out man”)”可推断,如果关于中式英语,你只是知道“good good study, day day up”,你被认为是“out man”,因此推断一个对中式英语知之甚少的人将被称为“out man”。故选A。
根据第五段中Swire说话的内容“I think many Chinese people complain about the Chinglish and badly translated English. But you know, sometimes for us foreigners, it’s actually quite charming to see them. I think if the translations of English in China were all perfect, then something would be lost from Chinese culture. (我想很多中国人抱怨中式英语和翻译不好的英语。但是你知道,有时候对我们外国人来说,看到它们真的很迷人。我认为如果中国的英语翻译都是完美的,那么中国文化就会失去一些东西)”可知,他认为中式英语是中国文化的一部分。故选D项。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中的“Beijing has made a comprehensive plan to improve foreign language services and correct Chinglish within five years. “It is very ridiculous to see Chinglish on the signs in some scenic spots. And they are a kind of barrier for communication between Chinese and people from other countries,” a Beijinger said. (北京已经制定了一项全面计划,在五年内提高外语服务和纠正中式英语。一个北京人说道:“在一些景点看到中式英语的标语是很可笑的。并且它们也是中国人与其他外国人交流的障碍。”)”可推知,中式英语会成为文化遗迹是因为在政府的政策下会逐渐消除中式英语,尤其是那些标语。故选D项。
D
You may have noticed sudden, brief twitching (抽动) at some point while your dog was sleeping and wondered if they were dreaming or even expressing some type of discomfort. These involuntary movements only occur during dream states and usually don’t last long. So is twitching just a normal part of dreaming, or are there times when you should worry
Dogs sleep an average of 12-14 hours each day. While they sleep, a dog’s brain processes information and experiences from the day through dreams. Twitching is often related to active dream cycles in the brain.
According to research by psychologist Stanley Coren, an average-size dog will dream about every 20 minutes, and these dreams will last about a minute. Larger breeds (品种) have fewer dreams that last longer—about every 45 minutes for 4 minutes. The opposite is true for smaller breed dogs; they will dream about every 10 minutes for up to 30 seconds.
Dogs experience the same dream stages as humans, including non-rapid eye movement (NREM), short-wave sleep (SWS), and rapid eye movement (REM). During the REM state, a dog’s eyes move around behind their closed eyelids, and the large body muscles are turned off so the dream is not physically acted out. The amount of twitching depends on how much these off switches cramp muscle movement.
If your dog sleeps next to you, they may unintentionally disturb your sleep with their sudden body movements. However, it is often advised not to awaken a dog that is twitching in their sleep unless they are clearly in distress.
A bad dream or night terror could be the cause of these involuntary movements, and they may wake up frightened. Try to avoid touching them so they don’t bite you as a result of being shocked and panicked. Instead, gently call your dog’s name until they respond. Speak calmly and tell them that they are safe and secure after they wake up. While they appear to be pretty active in their sleep, dreaming dogs may be slaw to awaken.
12. Which of the following influences how often dogs dream
A. Their sleeping time. B. Their body size.
C. Their daily experiences. D. Their health conditions.
13. What does the underlined word “distress” mean in paragraph 4
A. Adventure. B. Power. C. Suffering. D. Thought.
14. Why is it advised not to wake up a dog twitching in sleep
A. To avoid being bitten by the dog. B. To ensure the dog enough sleep.
C. To make the dog getting shocked. D. To escape being annoyed by the dog.
15. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. How does dogs’ brain work B. Why do dogs twitch in their sleep
C. Why do dogs dream at night D. How does dogs’ twitch affect their sleep
B 13. C 14. A 15. B
根据第三段“According to research by psychologist Stanley Coren, an average-size dog will dream about every 20 minutes, and these dreams will last about a minute. Larger breeds (品种) have fewer dreams that last longer—about every 45 minutes for 4 minutes. The opposite is true for smaller breed dogs; they will dream about every 10 minutes for up to 30 seconds.(根据心理学家Stanley Coren的研究,一只中等大小的狗每20分钟会做一个梦,这些梦会持续大约一分钟。体型较大的狗做梦的时间较短,大约每45分钟做一次,持续4分钟。小型犬的情况正好相反;它们每10分钟做一次梦,持续30秒。)”可知,狗的体型会影响狗的做梦频率。故选B。
【13题详解】
词句猜测题。根据倒数第二段“it is often advised not to awaken a dog that is twitching in their sleep unless they are clearly in(通常建议不要唤醒在睡梦中抽搐的狗,除非它们明显处于……中)”和最后一段“A bad dream or night terror could be the cause of these involuntary movements, and they may wake up frightened.(噩梦或夜惊可能是这些不自主运动的原因,它们可能会害怕地醒来。)”
根据最后一段“Try to avoid touching them so they don’t bite you as a result of being shocked and panicked.(尽量避免碰到它们,这样它们就不会因为受惊而咬你)”可知,建议不要吵醒睡梦中抽搐的狗是为了避免被狗咬伤。故选A。
通读全文,尤其是第一段“You may have noticed sudden, brief twitching (抽动) at some point while your dog was sleeping and wondered if they were dreaming or even expressing some type of discomfort.(当你的狗睡觉时,你可能会注意到它突然、短暂的抽搐,你可能会怀疑它们是在做梦,还是在表达某种不适。)” 由此可知,B选项“Why do dogs twitch in their sleep (为什么狗在睡梦中抽搐?)”

根据空前“Anxiety and depression are complex conditions. But can everyone benefit from learning how to care for their mind (焦虑和抑郁是复杂的情况。但是,每个人都能从学习如何照顾自己的心灵中受益吗?)”可知此处对每个人是否都能从学习如何照顾自己的心灵中受益提出了疑问,空处承上启下,结合下文提出的几种预防焦虑和抑郁的方法可知空处应对这个问题进行回答,并引出下文内容,F项The following behaviors are key ones linked to prevention of anxiety and depression.(以下行为是预防焦虑和抑郁的关键。)
根据空前“This can include feeling like you must be perfect to be accepted or an unrealistic sense of others’ expectations.(这可能包括觉得自己必须完美才能被接受,或者对别人的期望抱有不切实际的想法。)”
根据本段小标题“Social Connection (社会联系)”以及空前“From the time we are born , we need social connection in order to grow and succeed. (从我们出生的时候起,我们就需要社会联系来成长和成功。)”可知从我们出生的时候起我们就要不断地与社会联系,根据空后“It can be talking to one trusted person about how you're really doing or having a visit with any family member or friend.(可以是和一个你信任的人谈论你的真实情况,也可以是拜访任何家人或朋友。)” But it doesn’t have to be a big party or an office full of people.(但它并不一定是一个盛大的聚会或一个满是人的办公室。)
根据空前“If this feels out of reach, try making a short list of people who at any point have given you a sense of belonging.(如果觉得遥不可及,试着列一个简短的名单,列出那些在任何时候给过你归属感的人。)” Studies have shown that just thinking of positive relationships can help you bear stress.
根据空前“Exercise can be important for preventing depression since having a sedentary(缺乏锻炼的)lifestyle is a risk factor. (运动对预防抑郁症很重要,因为久坐的生活方式也是一个风险因素。)”可知运动有助于预防抑郁症,根据空后“Another study found that 12 weeks of exercise at 30 minutes, three to five times per week reduced symptoms by 47%.(另一项研究发现,每周运动三到五次,每次30分钟,持续12周,可以减轻47%的症状。)” One study found that 15 minutes a day of exercise significantly prevents depression.(一项研究发现,每天15分钟的锻炼可以显著预防抑郁症。)

Here's the story of my growth over the past year. If anyone is inspired (激励) by this, that's wonderful.
I'd been stuck as this under-confident fat and just frightened girl for years and years and years.

C It will attract more foreign tourists.
