Unit 11 Sad movies make me cry.
本单元主题属于“人与自我”范畴,涉及“情感表达”。围绕情感的话题,通过学习让学生能够表达自己的感受。
Section A通过谈论不同事物对情绪的影响,要求学生学习与情感有关的词汇,并通过听说读写逐步掌握make+sb.+do sth.和make+sb./sth.+adj.的结构并能够正确运用这些结构表达人的情绪等相关内容。教学重点一是要帮助学生建立使役动词(make,let,have)之后要跟省略to的动词不定式的意识;二是在make+sb./sth.+adj.这个结构中,学生要理解这里的adj.有两种形式——形容词和动词过去分词充当的形容词。
Section B是Section A内容的继续和延伸。在话题上,从事物对人情感产生影响的简单叙述,转向描述人们对某种情感所持有的观念;在语言上,除了进一步综合训练和掌握单元语言内容外,正确、得体地运用相关形容词描述情感,表达情感变化是本部分的重点;在技能上,由简单技能训练转向侧重听说读写的综合性训练。

Period Ⅰ Section A(1a~2d)
1.学习与人的情感相关的词汇。
2.谈论事物如何影响人的情感。
1.能够谈论或询问事物对情绪的影响或人对某一件事或物的看法。
2.能够听辨出用于描述事物和表达情感的形容词,并听懂使役动词make表达情感的语句。
3.能够通过学习表达情感的词汇恰当的表达自己的感情,并培养学生正确处理事情的能力。
4.让学生学会比较,分析不同事物的优缺点,从而进行优化选择。

2.难点:用“make+宾语+省略to的动词不定式”谈论事物对人情绪的影响。
Step 1 Lead-in
Present the pictures and point to Picture 1 and have a talk about it with a student.
T:How do you feel about Picture 1
S1:It makes me relaxed.
Have some students talk about other pictures in pairs like this:
Picture 2:It makes me sleepy.
Picture 3:It makes me excited/energetic.
Picture 4:It makes me scary.
Picture 5:It makes me hungry/want to eat.

Step 2 Work on 1a~1c
1a:Show two restaurants of 1a.Make students look at the pictures carefully and guide students to describe them.Then work in pairs to talk about which restaurant they would like to go to and why.Ask some students to give their answers.
1b:Ask students to look through the sentences in 1b and ask some students to guess how the things in the two restaurants affect them.Play the recording for the first time and students only need to listen carefully.Play the recording again.This time ask students to fill in the blanks.Then check the answers with the whole class.
1c:Invite two students to role-play the sample conversation in 1c.Then call students to make conversations to talk about their own opinions with a partner.Invite several pairs of students to act out their conversations in front of the class.
Sample conversation:
S1:I'd rather go to the Rockin' Restaurant because I like loud music.
S2:But that music makes me mad.I want to eat something quietly at Blue Ocean.

Step 3 Listening(2a~2b)
2a:Listen and number the pictures [1-4] in the order you hear them.
(1)Ask students to look at the pictures in 2a.Ask them some questions.For example:
Who are in the pictures What is happening in each picture
(2)Have students look at the pictures and describe them.
(3)Play the recording and ask the students to number the pictures in 2a in the order they hear.
(4)Play the recording again and check the answers in class.
2b:Have the students read the statements in 2b and guess the answers.Play the recording for the third time and find out what Tina and John said about how different things affect them.Then play the recording for the fourth time and complete the sentences in 2b.Check the answers with students.
【设计意图】2a,2b以听力训练的方式,让学生更深层次地理解和巩固所学目标语言。
Step 4 Work on 2c
Ask students to make conversations in pairs, using the information in 2a and 2b.Invite several pairs to act out their conversations.

Step 5 Role-play the conversation in 2d
1.Let the students read the conversation individually and answer the questions:
(1)Who have a lot in common
(2)What advice does Bert give to Nancy
2.Play the recording and get students to listen and repeat, and then role-play the conversation.
3.Ask several pairs to act it out.
4.Let students make up their own conversation in pairs and act it out.

Step 6 Homework
1.Remember the words and phrases in this lesson.
2.Ask the students to list some things around them and then describe how the things affect them by using the structures “make+sb./sth.+adj.” and “make+sb.+infinitive without to”.

1.Introduce the cultural background of fable.Explain the meaning of “fable”.
2.Introduce the characters in The Shirt of a Happy Man:king,queen,doctor,prime minister,banker,police,singer,top general
Step 3 Reading
●Before reading
Ask students to predict what they will read in this passage with the help of the title and the picture.Ask students to look through the questions in 3a.
●While reading
1.Let students scan the passage and check their predictions.
2.Get students to read the passage and try to find out the answers to the questions in 3a, and encourage students to ask their partners for help if needed.Then check the answers.
3.Then ask students to listen to the story carefully and find out key phrases, key structures and sentences with the structure “make sb./sth.+adj.”.
4.Then help students sum up some key language points and explain some phrases and the key structures.(Phrases:feel like doing sth., for no reason, call in, prime minister, take one's position, go out, in three days' time.Key structure:neither…nor…, It's true that…)
5.Complete the chart in 3b.
(1)Ask different students to read the phrases in the box of 3b and say their Chinese meanings.
(2)Then ask students to skim the passage again and find words or phrases from the story with meanings similar to the phrases in the box.
(3)Ask different students to say the answers and check them in class.
●After reading
1.Role-play the story
Ask students to work in groups to make up a textbook drama according to the story, and then role-play it in groups.
Invite two groups to role-play the story in front of the class.
2.Retell the passage according to the following mind map.

Step 4 Grammar Focus
1.Ask the students to read and remember the sentences in Grammar Focus by themselves, and then help students to summarize the key structures “make+sb./sth.+adj.” and “make+sb.+infinitive without to”.
2.Ask students to make sentences to practice the key structures “make+sb./sth.+adj.” and “make+sb.+infinitive without to”.
3.Invite different students to share their sentences with the class.

Step 5 Work on 4a&4b
1.Students read the passage to learn the main ideas of the diary and then fill in the blanks in 4a.
2.Show the chart and ask two students the questions:What makes you happy?What makes you want to cry?…And get them to fill their answers in the chart in 4b.Students work in groups of three.Practice the conversations.

2.Invite each group to share their possible endings with others.

1.Ask students to look through the questions in 1d and think about their answers.
2.Play the recording for the third time and have them write down the key words to each question.
3.Play the recording again and ask students to write down their answers.
4.Invite different students to answer the questions and ask other students to check their answers in class.

●Before reading
1.Ask students to talk about how his mistake makes him/her feel.Then invite some students share his/her experience and feeling with the class.
2.Let students listen to the passage in 2b and find the new words and key phrases in the passage, and then let them try to guess their meanings.Then present the new words on the screen and use pictures or explanations to teach the new words and key phrases.

2d:Ask different students to read the sentences in 2d and explain the meanings of the underlined parts.Then have them read the story again by themselves and find out the idioms or phrases from the story to replace the underlined parts.Call different students to say their answers and check the answers with the class.Then ask them to make sentences with these idioms or phrases.
