Unit 10 You're supposed to shake hands.

Section B在Section A的基础上对礼仪习俗进行拓展,主要介绍不同国家的餐桌礼仪。本部分还通过听、说、读写活动进一步巩固be supposed to 等结构的学习,让学生了解和熟知不同国家的不同风俗习惯。课文涉及不同国家的餐桌礼仪,呈现了与话题相关的表达,如a bit nervous,go out of one's way to do sth.,make sb.feel at home,be comfortable doing sth.等,还有一个重要句式“It's impolite to do sth.”。以上内容不仅拓展了单元目标语言,丰富了表达形式,还为口语和书面表达提供了更加丰富的词汇。

(1)Pair work(两两对话,谈论文化习俗)

(2)Role-play(分角色表演,帮助学生整体理解对话,引导学生学习对话中值得学习的语言现象,并收集整理)
Step 1 教师导入话题语境:John went to the welcome party for foreign students last night.He made some new friends.But something funny happened.
引出问题:What funny thing happened last night
Step 2 让学生单独阅读对话并回答下列问题。
①Who is Sato
②What did John do when he met Sato
③How are people in Japan expected to greet each other
④What did Katie do when she met Marie
⑤How did Katie feel when Marie kissed her on both sides of her face
⑥How are people in France expected to greet each other Is it polite if you don't do the same thing
Step 3 教师提示学生对话中值得关注的语言点。如:
the welcome party,as soon as,hold out,be supposed to,not mind doing,that's how…
Step 4 教师要求学生带有情感地朗读对话并进行练习。请部分学生展示、表演对话,教师注意对其语音、语调及情感进行点评。

把班上的学生分成几个小组,讨论以下问题并进行小组比赛,看哪一组完成得又快又好!

Listen to the recording and check the answers in 1a.
