情态动词&感叹句
情态动词
(一)定义
情态动词本身有各种意义,但不能单独作谓语,只能和实义动词一起构成谓语,表示说话人的语气、情感和态度,这样的动词称为情态动词。情态动词没有______和_____的变化。即情态动词第三人称单数不加-s。
(二)常见的情态动词
常见的情态动词有can (could)_______ ,may (might)________, must_______ ,should_____, will (would)________, need_______等,另外,have to________、had better________、ought to等动词词组也当作情态动词使用。情态动词后面必须加动词的_________。
(三)常见情态动词的用法
1.can(could)的用法
can表示体力、脑力方面的能力或客观的可能性。口语中, 在询问或说明一件事可不可以做时,常用“can”。情态动词“can”的过去式是“could”,否定式是“cannot”通常缩写成“can’t”, “could”的否定式是“could not”,通常缩写成“couldn’t”。在疑问句中,could并不是can的过去式,只是表示委婉的语气。

2.must的用法
must表示“必须”、“一定”的意思。其否定形式是mustn’t,表示“__________”。

用must(必须)进行提问时,肯定回答用________,否定回答用_______。

3.have to的用法
“have to”表示“不得不”、“必须”。have to的疑问形式是:助动词+…+have to,否定形式是:助动词+not+have to或者用needn’t.

4. should的用法
should用来提供帮助、提出建议,要求对方给出意见,还可表达义务、职责等。

5.will与would的用法
will表示“意愿”、“决心”等意思,一般与第二人称连用。 would表示过去的“意愿”、“决心”等。would也可以表示现在的情况,表达说话人向对方提出的要求,语气比“will”委婉、客气。在日常会话中,“我想要…”通常用“I would like to”或“I’d like to”来表示。

6.need的用法
need表示“需要”,用于疑问句或否定句。“need”作实义动词时,在肯定、否定、疑问句中都可以用。

— Yes, you must. (No, you needn’t.) 是的,你必须。(不,你不必。)
(四)易错点
1. can和be able to
两者表示能力时用法相同,但can只有原形和过去式两种形式,在其他时态中要用be able to来表示。另外be able to常常指经过努力,花费了时间和劳力之后才能做到某事。
例:Jim can’t speak English.
I’m sure you’ll be able to finish it quickly.
2.must, have to的用法
1)两词都表示“必须、必要”的意思。have to强调客观需要,must是说话人主观的看法。
例:—Must we hand in our homework today 我们必须今天上交作业吗?
—Yes, you must. ( No, you don’t have to/ you needn’t.) 是的,你必须。(不,你不必。)
2) have to有人称、数、时态的变化,而must只有一种形式。
例:He had to look after his sister at home yesterday.

3.may的回答
“May I … ”表示请求许可时,否定回答要用mustn’t或can’t,而不能用may not。
例:—May I go now 我现在可以走吗?
—Yes, you may/ can. 是的,可以。/ No, you mustn’t/ can’t. 不,不可以去。
4. must的回答
对must 引导的一般疑问句,肯定回答用must;否定回答用needn’t/ don’t have to.而不能用mustn’t. 因为mustn’t表“禁止”之意。
例:—Must I clean the dining room at once 我必须现在立刻打扫餐厅吗?
—Yes, you must. 是的, 你必须马上打扫。/ No, you don’t have to. / needn’t. 不,不必了。

(四)感叹句翻译技巧
去除主谓(+其他),找出感叹词修饰的部分,如果是名词(词组)用感叹词 what;如果是形容词或副词,用感叹词 how。

A girl named Carly Butler travelled 3, 755 miles from Canada to London. She wanted to retrace(重温) her grandmother’s daily life during World War II by the descriptions in old love letters.
Carly found 104 letters and telegrams between her grandmother in England and grandfather in Canada. Every week she would open seven new letters, and then she would do as described in the letters in the next week.
Her grandmother and her grandfather met at a dancing party in London in May 1943 and they stayed together just for three days, and then her grandfather married her grandmother.
Now, 67 years later, Carly left her own husband in Canada, opened her Grandmother’s letters and tried to follow the letters to retrace all the things in those letters.
So far, she has visited her grandmother’s birthplace in West Hampstead. She spent a day visiting Oxford and watching a film at the Marble Arch Cinema. Carly also plans to see her grandmother’s working place. Her grandmother passed away in 1998.
