三、阅读理解(原创)

During my teen years, I wasn't an outgoing person at all. I was never interested in volunteering. I just thought it was something people who had a lot of free time did. My view of volunteering changed when I started university. I heard new friends talk about all the ways that they had helped others and, in return, they had improved themselves.
I started volunteering when I was 19 years old. As an English major (专业) student, I volunteered in kindergartens (幼儿园) to teach children English. Later, I realized I couldn't get anything new out of my volunteer service. I decided to move out of my comfort zone (舒适区). I volunteered at different art festivals and for community service. These opportunities helped me to greatly improve my organization and communication skills.
The most important and life-changing volunteering experience for me came in the summer of 2021. It became clear to me that volunteering locally was not enough. It was time for me to try volunteering abroad. I spent a month and a half in Romania teaching English to children from poor families. That experience helped me to improve my teaching skills. It also completely changed me as a person. I met people from all over the world and learned to work together with them. Since then, I have made many international friends. These days, I am always able to do better than my colleagues whenever my job requires cross-cultural communication.
Volunteering is one of the best things you could ever do, both for yourself and for the people you are going to help along the way. Don't ever hesitate (犹豫) to join the community of volunteers!
