William Dunn is the founder of Take a Kid Fishing, a nonprofit(非营利的)organization in Lakeland, Florida, which teaches poor and fatherless kids through the sport of fishing.
A dozen years ago, inspired by his six-year-old fatherless neighbor, Camran, who got angry and shouted at his mom, William asked Camran’s mom for permission to take Camran fishing. Camran was “hooked” from that first trip. The two fished together several times a week, and William saw positive changes in Camran’s behavior. “That’s when I realized that I had the duty to help fatherless kids,” he says.
On weekends, William and a few other volunteers take 20 to 25 kids out fishing on a rental boat, which was supported by the captain of the Double Eagle. Many have never been fishing or even on a boat, so William —or Big Will, as the kids call him —starts by teaching the basic skills. Then come the life lessons that fishing offers: patience, team work and the simple joy of relaxing in the outdoors. Take a Kid Fishing has taken more than 600 fishing trips with almost 2,000 kids who don’t have a father in their lives.
He wants to share his love of fishing with kids who don’t have a father to take them. “I just want to show them that I care about them, that I’m there for them,” he says. Because many kids go on many trips, William is able to build relationships with them. He and Camran, now 20, still regularly fish together, and Camran sees Big Will as a father figure.
Take a Kid Fishing has a huge impact, but it started because William wanted to help one kid. Do you know a child who might benefit from your friendship Introduce them to fishing or another hobby you enjoy. You can make a great difference to their life.
24. What does the underlined word “hooked” in Paragraph 2 mean

For motorcycle(摩托车)enthusiasts, nothing beats the excitement of riding your motorcycle on the open highway with the wind on your back. With gas prices going up, motorcycles are cheap and a much greener way to travel.
Along with the benefits comes the risk of personal injury if an accident occurs. After all, you’re not protected by steel like you are while driving your car. But besides wearing a helmet, the latest safety innovations are personal airbags that you can wear.
Airbags have been protecting people in car accidents for decades. Now; a Swedish company, Mo’cycle, has made jeans that can be filled/with air for motorcycle riders. The jeans are designed to offer protection for the rider’s lower body in case of an accident. The airbag jeans look like ordinary trousers and are reusable. They are made of a special material which is stronger and weighs less than steel. The airbag component(组件)is removable and the jeans can be washed, dried, and worn again.
The jeans help to reduce damage from roadways after a fall. The airbags help cushion(缓冲)the rider if he or she falls off the motorcycle. Mo’cycle worked together with airbag technology company He lite to design and produce the airbags. The airbags are actually built into the jeans and are triggered(触发)in milliseconds if the rider is separated from the vehicle.
This innovative technology is designed to defend motorcycle riders by protecting the lower body areas, like the riders’ upper legs, the lower waist, and especially the tailbone! According to the company, “It is a completely new way to use airbag technology to protect the lower part of the backbone, because backbone injuries are likely to cause disability of motorcycle riders.”
Mo’cycle’s airbag jeans are available at present on the company’s campaign along with an airbag vest and a complete protection package(套装). Making the roads safer for motorcyclists is certainly a worthy effort. So the next time you have an urge to ride, make sure you put on*protective device before you hit the open road.
28. Why are airbags in cars mentioned in Paragraph 3
A. To illustrate how to use airbags. B. To introduce the topic of airbag jeans.
C. To compare cars and motorcycles. D. To show the best way to protect drivers.
29. What does Paragraph 4 mainly tell us about the airbag jeans
A. Their production and sales. B. Their designs and appearance.
C. Their functions and how they work. D. Their materials and components.
30. What do we know about Mo’cycle’s airbag jeans from the last paragraph
A. They are on sale now. B. They need to be improved.
C. They keep passers-by safe. D. They inspire an urge to ride.
31. What can be the best title of this text
A. Airbag Jeans for Motorcyclists B. Safety Rules for Motorcyclists
C. Risks that Motorcyclists Face D. Innovation in the Clothing Industry

When a tiny glass frog sleeps, its body becomes so transparent(透明的)that it can be nearly invisible. Even the red blood disappears. It’s an unusual trick —most see-through animals live in water all the time, which don’t produce red blood cells(细胞).
But when the frogs are active, blood begins to flow, and the bright red blood can be seen again. So, scientists set out to discover what happens to all that blood.
In a new study, researchers found out how, while sleeping, a glass frog sends most of the red blood cells to its liver(肝脏)In the process, the liver grows in size by about 40% to accommodate the extra cells. Like some other organs, such as its heart, the frog’s liver is covered in a mirrored part, which reflects lights, that helps the frog hide itself from enemies.
“If these frogs are awake, stressed or under anesthesia(麻醉), their blood systems are full of red blood cells, and they are not transparent,” explains an expert. “The only way to study transparency is when these animals are happily asleep, which is difficult to achieve in a research laboratory.”
Luckily, there is an imaging technology which can check red blood cells without breaking the skin of frogs. The team used this technique on frogs while they were sleeping. They found the animals moved a shocking 89% of their red blood cells to their livers while sleeping.
How exactly these frogs can send most of the red blood cells to its liver without getting blood clots(血栓)remains a mystery. Most other animals’ blood becomes very thick if the cells become concentrated, which can help cure a wound or—in a worse situation — stop blood from flowing to important areas. Understanding more about how the frogs stay health y while jam-packing(挤满)their livers with red blood cells could help promote blood clot research in humans.
32. Why are the glass frogs unusual
A. They are very tiny. B. They live in the water all the time.
C. They almost cannot be seen. D. They don’t produce red blood cells.
33 What happens to its liver when a glass frog is sleeping
A. It absorbs lights. B. It produces blood clots.
C. It works like a heart. D. It becomes larger in size.
34. What troubled the researchers when they studied transparency of glass frogs
A. To stop blood from flowing. B. To put the frogs to a proper state for study.
C. To check the red blood cells. D. To measure the frogs’ movement.
35. What can be learned from the last paragraph
A. Blood clots cause many deaths for humans.
B. Scientists have learned the secret of glass frogs.
C. Further study will probably be made on glass frogs.
D. Packing red blood cells together is harmful to animals.

Most of us look forward to the weekend as a time to relax, connect with friends and family. But as the weekend comes to an end, many of us are missing out on Sunday Funday and instead experiencing a sense of anxiety. Experts have named this worry the “Sunday scaries.” 36 . Here’s how experts say you can overcome your end-of-weekend anxiety.
Organize your Sunday
Organizing can be a best friend when feeling the Sunday scaries. 37 . You might still get a sense of fear, but that feeling will disappear when you’re doing something that makes you feel good.
38
When organizing your Sunday, try not to arrange too many chores(杂事). If you’re feeling more stress in general, it’s important to make space for relaxing activities. And there’s no right way to relax. Maybe a mid-afternoon shower or bath, maybe an attractive movie or show.
Find out your anxiety sources
39 . Is it a deadline, meeting or presentation Even if there’s not a single reason behind your Sunday anxiety, experts recommend creating many to-do lists to make it all easier to control. One list for tasks that need to be completed immediately, another for tasks that are less urgent, and a final list for tasks that you’d like to complete at some point.
Create some excitement for the week ahead
Having something to look forward to gives you something to think about that’s enjoyable, rather than only focusing on the fear you feel. Instead of focusing on the awful things you expect from the week, build excitement over a coffee with a good friend. 40 .
A. Don’t forget to relax
B. Stop doing too many chores
C. Try to figure out what’s really causing you to fear the week
D But even though the Sunday scaries are common, they are easy to control
E. Instead of sitting on the sofa and watching the clock, do something you enjoy
E. It is a strong feeling of fear and anxiety about going to work or school the next day
G. This allows you to change your thoughts to something fun and helps improve your mood

My husband was out of town for work last week. When he travels, he typically is only gone for a day or two, but this time it was a few days longer. He was supposed to come home the next night, but as he was boarding the plane, his flight had been canceled(取消)and he had to return to the hotel to wait for the next flight. He learned very quickly that the city was struggling against a high crime rate(犯罪率). He was not able to get a Uber or taxi at 4: 30 am to get to the airport for his flight because the workers were fearful of their lives. When I told my kids that their dad was not going to be home that night, they were both upset.
My husband was the head coach of my children’s baseball team. They had a game the next morning and my husband was trying so badly to make it home in time. The thought of possibly missing our sons’ game really made him mad. He wanted to be there because this was their thing and he didn’t want to disappoint them or the other boys.
A young man by the name of As her, who worked at the hotel my husband stayed at, overheard my husband’s dilemma(窘境). He realized my husband was not able to take a vehicle to the airport. This young man offered to wake up and get my husband to the airport at 4: 30 am. My husband was in shock —a complete stranger would offer to do such a big act of kindness. When he called to tell me the possible ride, he was so hopeful. This young man kept his word and brought my husband to the airport safely.
I didn’t want to get my sons to have too high expectation, so I told them, “Dad is trying to get home for your game but I am not sure whether he will make it.” That morning, on the way to the baseball field, both my kids looked up in the sky during the entire ride to the field and pointed at the planes in the sky saying, “Maybe that’s Dad’s plane.”

第二节(满分25分)
参考范文:
We saw some children and their parents at the entrance when arriving at the stadium. As we were approaching the baseball field, we were a little late, for the match would soon start. The stadium was crowded with parents who came to watch their children’s game. Some were encouraging their children and some were telling them particular skills. My two children hung their heads and walked reluctantly to the field. At this time, I also felt sad. How I wished their father had come, and unconsciously turned my head to look at the entrance.
Just then, I received a call from my husband. He said, “I am arriving in a few minutes.” I turned back again and saw a familiar figure walking towards me and my sons. Gradually, he changed from walking to running. It turned out that the familiar figure was my husband father of my two children. He successfully came back in time for the game. We were all overjoyed to see him back. He encouraged the children to perform well and said he would always watch them play. At this time, the children ran to the field happily.
