【词汇用法】
burn v.着火;燃烧 (burnt,burnt / burned,burned),
eg:Ouch! The sand is so hot! I can burn my feet.
哎哟!沙子这么烫!会烫伤脚的。
burning adj.着火的;燃烧的。
eg:He was trapped in a burning house. 他被困在正在燃烧的房屋里。
burning adj. 强烈的;炽热的;火辣辣的
burnt adj. 烧坏的;烫伤的
Teachers are often compared to burning candles. 教师经常被比喻为燃烧的蜡烛。

3.arrive / 'ra v/ v. 到达
e.g. When did you arrive at school 你什么时候到校的?

辨析:arrive, get 与reach
arrive后接介词in 或at 后再接地点。at 后接小地点,in 后接大地点。
get后加介词to 后再接地点。
reach后直接接地点。也指到达某一数量。
e.g. He arrived at home very late. 他到家很晚。

We reached the library on foot. 我们步行到达图书馆。
【重点句型】
I was about to go up when I decided to get a coffee first.

be about to do sth. 意为“正要做某事,即将做某事”,表将来。侧重于表示动作马上就要发生,常与when引导的从句连用,但不与具体的时间状语连用。本句中的 when 表示“这时”,用于描述一个几乎同时发生的动作。
e.g. Be quiet. The film is about to start. 安静,电影马上开始。
They were about to leave when it began to rain.
他们正要离开,这时天突然开始下雨了。
One of my friends is about to have her second baby.
我的一个朋友马上就要生第二个小孩了。
The medical team is about to leave for Wuhan. 医疗队即将出发前往武汉。
2.We stared in disbelief at the black smoke rising above the burning building. 我们直愣愣地盯着从燃烧着的大楼上升起的黑烟,无法相信(这一切)。
(1)stare 动词,意为“盯着看;凝视”。常与介词 at 连用。
e.g. She stared at him for a long time. 她久久凝视着他。
Don't stare at me like that.别那样盯着我看。
(2)disbelief 不可数名词,意为“不信;怀疑”。它是由 belief 加否定前缀 dis-构成的。in disbelief 意为“怀疑地;难以置信地”。
e.g. Anna asked him again in disbelief. 安娜难以置信地又问了他一次。
拓展:常见的加否定前缀 dis-构成的单词
like 喜欢—dislike 不喜欢 honest 诚实的—dishonest 不诚实的
cover 盖住—discover 揭开 appear 出现—disappear 消失;不见
(3)above 此处用作介词,意为“在……上面;(数量或度量)在……以上”。
e.g. There is a clock above the fireplace. 壁炉上方有一座钟。
辨析:above 与 over
above “在……上面”,但不一定在“正上方”,不与表面接触,反义词为 below。
Over “在……上面”,表示“正上方”,不与表面接触,反义词为 under。
e.g. The water came above our knees. 水没过了我们的膝盖。
There is a bridge over the river. 河上有一座桥。
(4)burn 动词,意为“着火;燃烧”。该句中,burning 是动词-ing形式的形容词,作定语,修饰后面的名词 building。
e.g. The young man rushed into the burning house.那个年轻人冲进着火的房子。
3. I felt lucky to be alive. 我感到幸运的是我还活着。
alive 形容词,意为“活着;在世”,常在句中作表语,也被称为表语形容词。
e.g. His parents are still alive. 他的父母仍然健在。
辨析:alive、living 与 lively
alive 意为“活着”,通常作表语,有时也可作后置定语。
living意为“有生命的;活(着)的”,可作前置定语或表语。
lively意为“生动的;活泼的”,可作定语或表语。

拓展:①till/until 用于肯定句中,主句动词常为延续性动词,表示这个动作一直延续到 till/until 所表示的时间为止。
e.g. He will wait for you until you come. 他会等着你,直到你来。
②till/until 用于否定句中,构成 not ... till/until ... 结构,表示“直到……才……”,主句常用瞬间动词,表示 till/until 所表示的时间一到,该动作就发生。
e.g. They didn’t start the dinner until Jack came.他们等杰克来了才开始吃晚饭。

in line with (与……)成一排 wait in line with 意为“与……排队等候”。

A neighbor called 911 at 11:09 a.m. after seeing smoke coming from a house in the 165 block of 54th Street Southeast.
The man who lives in the home was able to get his older child and the family dog out of the house on fire. Just then Monroe police officers arrived. The father said his younger child was still on the upper level of the house but he didn't know where.
Officers did a quick search of the house but couldn't find the girl. One of them closed the door to the master bedroom, where the fire started, controlling it and slowing its spread. Firefighters arrived and after searching the closet and narrow beds in another bedroom, one firefighter noticed the closed toy box at the foot of the bed.
“She wasn't making sounds,” later the firefighter said of the girl, whose exact age he didn't know. “I opened it up and saw her. She was lying in the toy box just balled up.”
Firefighters got the girl outside, where she was examined by doctors and found to be fine. The fire was quickly put out. The police officer who managed to shut the master bedroom door was highly praised. And the girl's father was so thankful to firefighters.
