四、阅读理解
Being safe in your everyday life needs knowledge. If you remember the following information, your life will be much safer.
Always notice the environment around you. You shouldn't walk alone outside. Make sure where the public phones are. If anything dangerous happens, you can find them easily.
Your bag should be carried towards the front of your body instead of putting it on your back. When a bus is full of people, it is easy enough for a thief to take away the things in the bag on your back.
If you are followed by someone you don't know, cross the street and go to the other way, let the person understand that you know he or she is after you. Next, don't go home at once. You are safer in the street than you are alone in your home or in a lift.
If you have to take a bus to a place far away, try to get to the stop a few minutes earlier before the bus leaves. This stops other people from studying you. On the bus, don't sit alone. Sit behind the driver or with other people. Don't sleep.
( )16.Which of the following is NOT safe when you are out
A.Go home alone late at night. B.Make sure where the public phones are.

What if there is a fire in your house Would you know what to do Here are several suggestions which might help you escape (逃生) from the fire.
Leaving the house through a door should be your first choice as an escape route. Windows on a higher floor may be a safe escape route if you could get help from another person.
If you can see smoke in the house, stay low to the ground as you go to the door. In a fire, smoke and poisonous (有毒的) air hurt more people. You'll breathe less smoke if you stay close to the ground.
If fire or smoke is blocking (阻塞) an escape route, firefighters (消防队员) will have difficulty finding you. The sooner they find you, the sooner you can get out.
Meanwhile, keep heat and smoke from getting through the door by blocking the cracks (缝隙) around the door with blankets or clothing. If there is a window, open it all the way and stand in front of it. If you can get a piece of clothing, cover your mouth to keep from breathing in the smoke. This works even better if you wet the cloth first.
If your clothes catch fire during a fire, don't run! You had better stop, drop to the ground, and roll. This will cut off the air and put out the fire.

We all know the dangers of fires. It's good and necessary for a family to learn how to prevent from a fire. Here are some suggestions.
Put a smoke alarm (火警) in the house. Smoke from a fire causes the alarm to go off. The alarm makes a loud sound. The sound tells everyone to leave the house at once.
Make escape(逃脱)plans. We should know all the ways out of the house. If there is a fire, everyone follows the plan to get out. Part of the plan is to check all the windows to make sure they can be opened easily.
Buy fire extinguishers (灭火器) in the house. Everyone in the family should know how to use them.
Practice for a fire. We do fire practices because we teach children about fire safety. Everyone in the family should know the following fire rules:
Don't open the hot door! The fire can grow more quickly if you open the door.
Stay close to the floor! Smoke can be more dangerous than the fire. The best air is near the floor because smoke rises.
What will you do if your hair or clothes start to burn First, stop! Don't run! The fire burns faster because of more air. Drop! Fall to the floor. Then roll! Turning over and over will make the fire go out. Put a blanket (毯子) around you to keep air away from the fire that may still be on you.
There are many possible causes for fires. A wise family is ready all the time. If there is a fire, don't forget to call 119 for help.

Nowadays, most people seldom write things by hand. However, some studies show that handwriting has many advantages.
A survey showed writing by hand was better for learning and memory than using a keyboard. “When you write your shopping list or English notes by hand, you can remember these better and more quickly,” said Audrey, a researcher of the survey.
The result showed that brains of young adults were much more active when they wrote by hand than when they used a keyboard. According to Audrey, lots of senses were activated (激活) when writing something by hand. These sense experiences built the relation of different parts of a brain each other, which was helpful for learning.
Audrey did another survey with her teammates and they invited 12 young adults and 12 children to take part in it. The survey was different from what Audrey had done before because it was the first time that children had taken part in such a survey.
The result also showed the importance to children in learning to draw or write by hand at an early age. “Learning to write by hand is a slower process, but it's important for children,” she said. When children wrote something by hand, the hand movements could form the shapes of words and put these children in a condition of learning. It also helped them form good learning habits.
Therefore, people had better write things by hand as often as possible.
