阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
When it comes to perfect views, it really does take a village. Searching for the most camera-ready communities on the planet, we find four villages that fit the bill. Spend a few minutes there and you will realize that “quaint(古色古香的)” and “charming” aren’t just adjectives and that they are a way of life.
Sidi Bou Said in Tunisia
The village seems to disappear into the sky and the blue horizon. All the houses are painted white, the skies are clear, and the background includes the Bay of Tunis which is only in a deeper shade of blue. It’s not surprising that the atmosphere here is a bit free, and it is also home to plenty of lively cafes and art galleries.
Wengen in Switzerland
Wonder how the world was before cars were invented Wengen, a Switzerland’s village, might just help you get the answer. Cars have been banned in this area for more than 100 years. Imagine seeing woods all around you, snow covered mountains, log cabins(木屋) and the locals who have kept their Swiss culture undamaged.
Eze in France
France’s most attractive village is Eze. Seemingly frozen in time, Eze has managed to keep its old-world charm. It is the perfect melting pot(熔炉) of cultures because of its closeness to Nice, and today the village enjoys its rich heritage. The architecture here is so special that Walt Disney frequented this village for inspiration.
Bibury in England
Bibury was described by William Morris as “the most beautiful village in England”—known for its watercolor views. The 17th-century stone cottages and a still-working 1902 farm are some of the ancient village’s must-sees.
21.What are the tourists prevented from doing in Wengen
A.Traveling around by car. B.Viewing woods everywhere.
C.Learning about Swiss culture. D.Appreciating snowy mountains.
22.Which village did Walt Disney often visit to get inspired
A.Eze in France. B.Bibury in England.
C.Wengen in Switzerland. D.Sidi Bou Said in Tunisi.
23.What do the four villages have in common
A.They have modern architecture. B.They are all situated by the sea.
C.They have beautiful stone cottages. D.They own old-world and amazing scenery.

I’ve been into volunteer work since childhood. As a girl, I volunteered at animal shelters, played music at nursing homes, and helped with community cleanup. In college, I volunteered heavily at a large yearly conference, which is where I first met and fell in love with my husband Tom, who was on my team of co-volunteers. Since getting married in 2013, we’ve been living in Beirut, Lebanon. My husband works for a nonprofit organization. I have an online coaching business, so I’ve many opportunities to volunteer for youth education.
Volunteering has been a way of life for me and I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t enjoy it. Most of the time, you do feel that you’re making a difference. Once I led a project that provided food to Syrian families. When it was nearing Ramadan, the biggest holiday season in Islam, I filled the food package with nuts, olive oil, sweets... We took the package unannounced and arrived just as the Syrian family was sitting on their floor for breakfast. They had nothing but some bread and a pot of tea. The mother cried when seeing us, saying she would never forget our kindness.
Another time, some friends and I volunteered to a distant church with only a few elderly residents. The building was old and the churchyard needed attention. We spent the weekend in the home of one of these old ladies so we could clean and repair the church. I’ll never forget the new life in her eyes as she stayed with us. She couldn’t repair broken doors or pull weeds, but she loved us like nothing else. It breaks my heart to remember this old lady beaming with joy for such small efforts we made. Volunteer work is satisfying not because you have done some work, but because your presence has an effect on people around.
Volunteering makes me a better person because it puts my focus on others. It makes me grateful for what I have and gives me a chance to serve people, which gives a deep sense of meaning to my life.
24.When did the author meet her husband for the first time
A.When she was a child. B.When she was a college student.

C.She had no food. D.She was very moved.

A group of researchers have developed a new material which is soft but very strong. It can be worn and washed like ordinary clothing and could finally turn sports clothes into smart “wearables”.
The so-called “carbon nanotube threads” (碳纳米管线) can be used to measure heart rate to test heart conditions. But instead of having to be stuck on the skin, they can be fixed on a T-shirt and worn like usual athletic wear. The researchers say the threads can comfortably move with the wearer, and be washed and worn repeatedly without breaking down.
Though going into production for customers is still a long way off, the material could finally help replace some medical facilities, such as the heart-rate monitoring machines and watches, in addition to other possible uses. For the latest study, researchers worked with a rope-maker to make the threads together into a mate rial similar to ordinary thread that could be sewn(缝纫) into athletic clothes. The resulting “smart” shirt provides “soft, wearable, dry sensors for continuous” heart-rate monitoring, the study states. With some improvement, the clothes with these carbon nanotube threads could be able to track other human body life signs, according to the researchers.
The “smart” shirts aren’t entirely without wires(电线), however. One example shows the nanotube in the shirt feeding testing results to wires on the bottom that transmit the information through Bluetooth technology to a computer.
“The threadlike material— thin enough to run through a sewing machine— is not only soft and comfortable to the touch, but also so strong that you can build a powerline out of it,” said Dewy, a member of the research team. “Nothing else behaves like this promising material.”
28.What is the new material expected to do
A.Make a new style of sportswear. B.Take the place of traditional clothes.
C.Provide measurement for heartbeats. D.Help determine the type of an illness.
29.What does the underlined word “transmit” mean in paragraph 4
A.Send. B.Connect. C.Add. D.Track.
30.What can we learn about the new material
A.It’ll cause a waste of resources. B.It has gained a large sales market.
C.It has a bright future for development. D.It’ll improve the function of the heart.
31.What is the best title for the text
A.Scientists Are Studying Human Body Life Signs
B.Advanced Medical Facilities Are Put into Wide Use
C.Smart Wearables Are Well Received Among Athletes
D.Carbon Nanotube Threads Are Created to Test Heart Rate

More educators and researchers are bringing attention to misinformation (错误信息) through the internet and social media. Teaching media literacy (素养) can be a problem. Those against teaching internet literacy say it’s the same as thought control, which prevents some teachers from using it in class.
Erin, a mother from Massachusetts who has worked as a reporter, said that media literacy is ask ill as important as computer engineering for the economy. She created a nonprofit group called Media Literacy Now to support digital literacy education. “Basic communication is part of our information economy, and there will be huge effects for our economy if we don’t get this right,” she said.
Shawn Lee, who teaches social studies in Seattle, Washington, has taught about double-checking online reports, getting information from more than a few places and using critical(批评的)thinking. He also created an organization for teachers to share experiences.
Teaching internet literacy to fight misinformation may be more effective than new laws. Some US states have added new standards for teaching internet literacy. Subjects can include how the internet and social media work, how to find misinformation by looking at many sources. Other ways of identifying misinformation might include looking for missing background information or recognizing emotional headlines.
Media and internet literacy is taught around the world. Finland and Canada have developed programs over the years to teach young people about the media. The goal is to get young people to understand what in the news and on the internet is a fact, and what isn’t.
Media and internet literacy is often compared to driver’s education. “We need speed limits, and we need well designed roads and good regulations(规定) to ensure cars are safe. But we also teach people how to drive safely,” a director of education Johnson said.
This combination of government, industry and educators is considered the model that is needed for internet and media literacy. Education is needed for an effective answer to fight internet misinformation.
32.What’s the view of people against teaching internet literacy
A.It needs laws to prove its effect. B.It adds to teachers’ heavy work.
C.It’s like controlling people’s thought. D.It may face strong criticism of parents.
33.What has Shawn done to support internet literacy
A.He’s created Media Literacy Now. B.He’s taught students critical thinking.
C.He’s invented online double-checking. D.He’s asked teachers to share experiences.
34.What is the fourth paragraph mainly about
A.What’s been done about online literacy. B.What effect online literacy has on us.
C.How we can stop misinformation online. D.How we could beat online misinformation.
35.What does Johnson think about teaching internet literacy
A.People should learn about safe surfing. B.It should be covered in driver’s education.
C.It calls for the efforts of online education. D.Finland and Canada have experience in this.

I could hear footsteps(脚步声) following me. I stopped and turned to see who it was. The dark street light did not allow me to see far and it looked like I was alone. I could not hear anything other than my heart beating wildly. Was it my imagination
I was returning home after a late music lesson. My parents were attending a meeting so I had to get home on my own. The distance from my music teacher’s house to my home was just 500 meters. The street was darker than I had expected but I was not very worried about the short walk home. I was busy thinking about my upcoming music exam when I became aware that I was being followed.
I continued on my way, keeping an eye out for any sounds. There it was again, the sound of someone walking behind me. Fear came over me and I hurried on. My house was just around the corner. I decided to run. To my surprise, the person following me began to run too. I looked behind me and saw a dark figure catching up with me. Suddenly, I ran into a dustbin by the road and fell over.
I felt a hand catch hold of my arm and I screamed loudly in fear. The hand let go of my arm and I pushed myself off the ground quickly, getting ready to run again. It was at that moment that I found myself looking at a young lady dressed in a dark sports suit. It looked like she had been scared by my reaction.
The next moment, there were a lot of footsteps coming from the dark and I could hear someone calling my name. To my surprise, a few seconds later my parents appeared together with a few people who were my neighbors.

读后续写
The young lady who looked anxious at first now seemed as relaxed as me. We all walked to our houses which were just two doors away. As my mother applied medicine to my arms and legs, I was asked to explain why I ran away from our new neighbor, the young lady. After listening to what I said patiently, my new neighbor couldn’t help laughing. She told us that she moved here just several days ago and was new to the neighborhood. She had gone jogging that evening.
My new neighbor explained that she was walking behind me when she heard footsteps following her. She
decided to run when she saw me start running. It turned out that what she had heard was the neighborhood watch group checking the street. When I fell, she went to help me up, which unfortunately led to my screaming out in fear. The night ended with our having dinner together. Indeed, it was an unusual introduction to the neighborhood for my new neighbor. However, after that, we became good friends and often jogged together after dinner.
