Part 5 模拟演练
(2022·广东韶关·一模)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
I was walking along the road to school one day and I met my friend Raine. He suggested that we skip school and go to the movies. I refused as my dad was very fierce and strict. After much persuasion, I gave in. There was a Will Smith movie on and I was a fan.
So we set off to the movies together, bought our tickets, popcorn and drinks and settled down comfortably. As we were early, the lights were still on. We watched people come in groups, families and there were couples too. Some of them looked like school students playing truant(逃学)like us. As I turned around, I caught a glimpse of my uncle Andy and Aunt Jane walking in. They were kind and cared about me very much. I sank into my seat quickly to avoid being spotted. I signaled to Raine that there was someone I didn’t want to see and Raine made it more obvious by turning around and asking “Who And where ” loudly. It made me sit even lower in my seat.
To make things worse, they came and sat in the row behind us and were saying to each other how I would have loved to come to this movie as I adored Will Smith. They were even commenting about the students playing truant. Soon the movie began and I was glad when the lights were turned off but I didn’t enjoy the movie at all for fear of being spotted. So, I sat there like an astronaut, peering over the front seat.
Every now and then I would secretly take a quick look at my aunt and uncle. I was sure they were also looking at me. Feeling nervous and anxious, I kept wondering how I could leave the cinema without being noticed.

In front of us were my aunt and uncle, waiting at the gate.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________参考答案:
When the movie ended and the lights came on, I remained seated. Hearing the crowds slowly move towards the door, my heart was beating wildly, but I knew if I stood up, I might be discovered. It felt like forever until almost all the people left. I peeked at where my aunt and uncle had been and found they were gone. Raine nodded at me, and we made a dash out of the door and fled down the stairs. I was running towards the gate of the cinema like crazy when I spotted two familiar figures.
In front of us were my aunt and uncle, waiting at the gate. “We saw you the moment we came in. You haven’t really enjoyed the movie, have you ” Out of breath, we hung our head in shame. Biting my lips, I heard Raine trying to defend ourselves, “It was my idea, Sir! But school is boring!” A long, horrible silence. Then my aunt just asked us to think about how worried my mother and how angry and disappointed my father would be. Raine said no more, and I felt even guiltier. In the end, we decided to make a sincere apology to my parents and my teachers as well.

“Number 7, Jobie Nymble, takes the lead,” cried the announcer. “Just one more hurdle (跨栏) and-Jobie Nymble from Riverside Middle School takes first place in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles!”
“County championships, here we come.” yelled Jobie, patting (轻拍) her worn green track spikes (钉鞋). They were her lucky shoes and she loved them. “Next Saturday, we’re taking the gold home,” Jobie whispered to her spikes.
“Don’t forget, guys.” said Marisol, one of her teammates. “My birthday party is next Friday at Hidden Park. You should all come.”
The day of Marisol’s party came. Jobie put on her favorite clothes: her blue shorts, an old track T-shirt, and her lucky spikes. The party had begun when Jobie arrived at Hidden Park. She stopped by the track first, planning to do some running exercise. Even at that end of the park, music and the smell of grilled food filled the air.
Two of Jobie’s teammates rushed toward her, breathless and barefoot. “Come on,” they shouted. “You have to try the slide.” Jobie’s eyes shot toward the party area. “Slide What sli ... ”
Suddenly, she saw it. The BIGGEST inflatable (充气的 ) slide she had ever seen was on the far side of the park. Smiling kids zoomed down the slide at unspeakable speeds.
Without thinking twice, Jobie threw off her spikes and ran fast toward the slide. Its ladder rose to the sky, but she reached the top in no time. She slid down, sped to the edge, and closed her eyes as she let go. Jobie couldn’t get enough fun from the slide.
When it was finally time to go home, she unwillingly made her way back to the track where she’d left her shoes. As she eyed the area from a distance, panic set in. Jobie picked up the pace, her heart pounding louder the closer she got. When she reached the place she’d left them. her heart stopped.
“They’re gone!” she screamed. “My lucky spikes are gone.” Jobie’s teammates helped her search the park. No lucky spikes. “So long, gold,” Jobie groaned (叹息).

Noticing her blank expression, all her teammates came around. “Next up is the girls’100-meter hurdles,” said the announcer again. Her teammates encouraged her as she bent down to put on her new spikes. Then she took several deep breaths, nodded her head to them and walked down to the starting line.
Paragraph 2:
Buhhhhh (比赛的信号声) went the starting signal. Jobie didn’t regain her sense until two seconds later, which puzzled her teammates. Anyway, rather than give up, she began to run desperately and cleared hurdle after hurdle. Soon, she caught up with her competitive opponents, and then surpassed them, leaving them far behind. She got closer and closer, and cheers broke out. Wearing a wide smile, Jobie whispered,“No lucky spikes. Lucky me.”

The familiar smell of garlic and onion filled the air as I opened my lunch bag to see what my mom had packed for me. On any other occasion, I would have been delighted to eat my mom’s pan-fried tofu: a Chinese dish that I often ate for dinner. But not today, the day a nice girl had invited me, the new girl at school, to sit with her friends during lunch.
“Charis, over here!”My new friend was waving her arms, trying to get my attention.
As I prepared to walk over to the table, memories of elementary and middle school lunch times resurfaced. I remembered my embarrassment as my friends would hold their noses when I brought homemade Chinese food. I remembered how my embarrassment shifted to anger when I complained about the smell to my mom.
I had argued with my mom that I wanted “normal” food for lunch. I remembered the look on my mom’s face, a mix between disappointment and confusion. But I was determined and she gave in. So for the remainder of middle school, my mom packed odorless(没有气味), non-Chinese food like ham and cheese sandwiches. However, that day, she was in a rush and packed me leftovers from dinner.
As soon as I got to my new lunch table, I tried to hide my lunch bag down under my seat. I sat quietly, trying not to be noticed when Katrina, a new acquaintance, asked where my food was. “I’m not really hungry,” I replied in an insecure voice. But Katrina had already seen me carry my lunch so she spoke out, “Then, I’ll eat it!” The other girls laughed-apparently Katrina was known to be a big eater.
I didn’t want to be rude to a potentially new friend, so I reluctantly dragged out my lunch bag. The moment I lifted the cover of my lunch container, I could practically taste the garlic and onion.
The girls, piqued(激起好奇心)by the smell in the air, all curiously looked at the oval-shaped container. I expected an “Ew” or a“What is that?”

参考答案:
I had expected them to turn away — and turn me away before Katrina grabbed a small piece of tofu and enjoyed it. And I most certainly did not expect her to encourage the rest of the table to try my lunch. My new friends were going on about how lucky I was that my mom took the time to prepare a cooked meal for me. They were surprised by the fact that tofu could actually taste good. While I didn’t get to eat any of my mom’s pan-fried tofu, I was full of pride and gratitude.
When I arrived home, my mom asked how my day went. Answering with a simple “Good,” I pulled out my lunch container from my bag. “I’m sorry, but I didn’t have time to buy bread or ham yesterday.” But when she noticed that the container was empty, she hesitated before asking, “How was the food ” I paused a moment before I replied, “Perfect, mom. If it’s not too much trouble, can I still have pan-fried tofu for lunch tomorrow ”

When I was 10, I was always made fun of by my fellow Co-Curricular Activities(CCA) mates, including John. Words like, “Dick is the best player in the CCA! He only knows how to play ’Mary had a Little Lamb’ on the trumpet!” John’s fellows sang along, laughing at me.
“Don’t worry, Dick! I know you will be the best musician around and maybe perform 10 times in a year!” Tom encouraged me. “Thanks for the encouragement even though John is a better player since he has started playing the trumpet since primary school. Meanwhile, I just started, I replied with determination in my eyes to beat John.” Tom, seeing this, decided to give me more support.
After a long day of practice, the band was dismissed. I would have asked Tom to follow me back home but I was in a rush, so I left him. The moment I left the school, I took out my earpiece, listening to recordings like a broken recorder. I got so lost at the point that I did not sec the wall in front and fell on the ground with a loud hit. Luckily for me, a passer-by saw what had happened and immediately called the ambulance while stopping the blood.
“Ugh, where am I ” When I came to myself, I saw my parents and classmates. The passer-by must have informed my school or called using my phone! He then came up and explained to me what had happened. This made me embarrassed.
I could not even show my face to my parents! I wished the ground would swallow me whole, but that did not stop me from trying to be the best player. The nurse told me that I couldn’t practise as my body needed time to heal and that would take up a lot of energy. “I want to be the best. One leg injury would not stop me; it would only make me feel more motivated, I replied to the nurse.” When the nurse heard my words, she brought in the trumpet that I had wanted to practice with.

参考答案:
My parents motivated me every day by bringing my favourite food or drinks to the hospital. Meanwhile, my best friend had come to give me emotional support. After all that hard practice, I finally perfected what I would be playing on the day itself. “YES!” I screamed with joy, pain and satisfaction. When I was finally discharged from the hospital, I can finally go back to my CCA. I knew John would obviously make fun of me some more, but I was willing and determined to beat him and prove him wrong since I trained hard with great effort.
Para. 2:
On the selection day itself, John laughed at me by saying that I would not make it. The moment I began, the band was shaken, with their mouths wide open. The conductor came to me and asked how I had improved so much. I explained that it was because John had made fun of me all this time. Also, I had a bad fall recently and that motivated me even more. The conductor then said that I was a role model and that the whole band should follow my motivation and practice instead of being like John and boasting. This experience made me what I am today. Currently, I am the best player and the head of the secondary school military band.

The whole class burst out laughing as Mohi rushed into the classroom. He was a strange sight. His half-buttoned white shirt revealed a red striped pajama top underneath, and instead of white school shoes, he had on a pair of bright green sandals that were two sizes too big. The physics teacher's hand froze in the middle of writing a formula on the blackboard.
Mohi mumbled,‘Sorry, teacher,’ and scuttled (快步疾走) to his seat. Mr. Tan glared at the rest of the students. The chuckles quickly faded away. Mohi's classmates always looked forward to Mondays. Nine times out of ten, they would be entertained by Mohi' slate arrival and his odd appearance which usually included inappropriate clothing. That day, it was the pajama top and green sandals.
Mohi lived just a street away from the school. He walked to school daily. Students passing by in buses would yell his name in unison (一起) just to see him jump and stop in his tracks. When he spotted the merry bunch in the bus, he would wave good-naturedly. Although Mohi was likable, he was too lost in his own thoughts to make friends. His classmates found him amusing but they ignored him most of the time. Only Hamed, who sat next to Mohi, tried to be his friend.
The following Monday, Mohi did not turn up at school. His classmates were a little disappointed but quickly forgot about him. After school, Hamed decided to walk over to Mohi's house to check on him. As he approached the gate, he could hear violin music. Mohi must be listening to music, he thought. The gate was not locked. Hamed let himself in. He called Mohi's name a few times but there was no response. The music played on. Hamed peered in through a window. His eyes widened in surprise. In the middle of the living room, Mohi was playing the violin. His eyes were closed in concentration as he drew the bow over the strings expertly. 参考答案:
When Teacher's Day came around, Hamed had a plan. It was the tradition of the school to have a concert for the teachers. Every class had to contribute an item. Hamed convinced the class to let Mohi perform. Short of ideas, the class agreed. On the day of the concert, both the teachers and students were surprised to see the school's clumsiest student walking on stage with a violin. When he started to play, the audience fell silent. Jaws dropped.
As the last note ended, there was a moment of silence. Then the audience erupted into thunderous applause. After the performance, shy and silent as Mohi was, he gave Hamed a big hug. Love may be silent, but it was always there. Since then, Mohi and Hamed have been best friends. With the encouragement of Hamed, Mohi has pursued his dream of being a musician. Not only do friends keep us company but also help us to be a better self.

One afternoon after school, Mary and her brother,Keith, were eating at a cafe near their home. That afternoon, they had to share their table with another person. That person was a young lady in her twenties. After eating, she went to the restroom. Without realizing, she had left her handphone on the table. Five minutes later, she came out and walked out of the cafe without looking back.
Mary saw the handphone on the table. She quickly told Keith,“Keith, the girl left behind her handphone.”
Keith looked at the handphone. It took his breath away. It was one of the latest models on the market. Keith had always wanted a handphone. But his parents had told him, “You don’t need one. You can always use the house phone.”
He stared at it for some minutes. Then he said slowly, pausing on every word,“I want to take the handphone.”
Mary could not believe her ears. She merely stared at her brother. “You can’t! What if the owner comes to look for it ”
Having made the decision,Keith quickly grabbed the handphone and put it in his schoolbag. Then, he took Mary’s hand and led her out of the cafe quickly.
Once back home, Keith locked his house door with trembling hands. Inside his room, he took out the piece of beauty. Oh, he liked it so much. Now he had his own handphone. Soon, he was polishing it happily.
But Mary told him, “Keith, you cannot keep the handphone. What will you tell Father about this He will ask you how you got the handphone.”
Keith said quickly, “I will say a friend lent it to me.”
Mary said, “Now you are lying too.” Oh dear! When had Keith turned so dishonest
Then Mary saw a house phone number on the plastic cover of the handphone. “This is the girl’s phone number. Why don’t we just call this number We will talk to her and ask her to come and take back her handphone.” She was trying to talk some sense into him.

However, he was feeling sorry for the owner. When he thought how sad the young lady would be at the loss of her handphone, he was full of guilt and shame. The next morning, after a long and restless night, he was determined to return the handphone to the owner. After school, he told Mary, “I am going to phone the owner.”
Mary was very happy to hear that. Back home, they phoned the owner’s house phone. A girl answered the phone. Kevin asked, “Are you the owner of the handphone I’m Keith. I have your handphone. Can you come and get it ” The girl replied ‘Yes’ excitedly, expressing her gratitude repeatedly. Ten minutes later, she was at the same cafe to meet Keith. Handing back the handphone to her and seeing her smile happily, Keith realized that honesty was indeed the best policy.

Her name was Mrs. Thompson. And as she stood in front of the 5th grade class on the very first day she looked at her students and said that she loved them all the same. But that was impossible because there in the front row was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard. Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed that he didn't play well with the other children, that his clothes were messy and that he constantly needed a bath. She paid no attention to Teddy.
However, when she read his file, she was in surprise. Teddy's first grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is a bright child with a ready laugh. He does his work neatly and has good manners...he is a joy to be around." His second grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is an excellent student, well liked by his classmates. But he is troubled because his mother has a deadly illness and life at home must be a struggle." His third grade teacher wrote, "His mother's death has been hard on him. He tried to do his best but his father doesn't show much interest." Teddy's fourth grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is withdrawn and doesn't show much interest in school. He doesn't have many friends and sometimes sleeps in class.” By now, Mrs. Thompson realized the problem and she was ashamed of herself. She thought that she could make a difference.
She felt even worse when her students brought her Christmas presents, wrapped in beautiful paper and tied with pretty ribbons, except for Teddy's. His present was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown paper that he got from a grocery bag. Mrs. Thompson opened it in the middle of the other presents. Some of the children stared to laugh when she found a stone bracelet(手镯)with some of the stones missing, and a bottle that was one-quarter full of perfume.

Brady was a recently retired search and rescue dog. He was not happy and missed his owner Al because Al had gone out on a rescue mission without him. Al’s nephew Steve took Brady along when he and his friend Zach went on a overnight hike. But suddenly Steve and Zach smelled something burning and they realized that lightning had set the woods on fire. Wind-blown flame had leaped from the top of one tree to another. The long dry summer had turned the forest into a tinderbox(火绒箱) and the thunderstorm wasn’t helping much. It had more wind and lightning than rain. Zach pulled Steve’s arm. “Let’s go! We can make it back to the river we crossed today.” Steve pulled Brady’s leash(皮带) and their heads down against the strong fire-wind, they hurried down the path they had followed earlier. The air was full of smoke, and pine branches broke from burning trees with a crisp sound. Steve kept his eyes on the route. All they had to do was to make it down to the river…
Brady barked a sharp warning. Ahead of them lay a dense curtain of smoke across the path. They’d never make it through that. They would have to find another escape route. The dog was pulling at his leash trying to draw them away from the smoke. This was what Brady was trained to do, and yet Steve was uneasy. It seemed to him they were moving away from the river.
Brady lifted his head and smelled the smoky wind. Suddenly, the dog ran away and disappeared. The boys yelled and shouted for him,but he didn’t come back.
They had no choice but to leave him behind. Heartsick, Steve and Zach went up aslope(斜坡). He couldn’t blame Brady for panicking and escaping. He himself wanted to run even though he didn’t have a clue which way. They hadn’t gone far when there was a familiar bark, and Brady came running toward him.

01 ---酸奶
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Yoghurt
It was a rough week. The price of oil skyrocketed as the temperature dropped sharply in Maine. We were looking at a high of eight degrees that week, and I had missed three days of work so my paycheck was going to be lower than normal. I was stressed, to say the least. I shopped strategically, looking for every possible way to cut pennies so I could buy groceries and keep the house warm.
My eight-year-old son didn't understand when I told him we were struggling that week. He wanted a special kind of yoghurt, but I didn't have the extra three dollars to buy it for him. It was the kind of yoghurt with a cartoon kid riding a skateboard on the front of the box, and a mere two spoonfuls in each cup. It was the kind of product that wastes a parent's money and makes me hate advertising.
I felt guilty as a parent when those big eyes looked at me with confusion, as if to say,“It's just yoghurt. What's the big deal ” So I found a way. I put something back as single mothers often do. He got his yoghurt.
On the way driving back from the grocery store, I noticed a homeless man holding a sign by the side of the road. My heart hurt, and I tried not to look at him. I watched people stay away from him on the street and walk by without even meeting his eyes. My son didn't seem to care much, either. I looked at the man closely then — bare hands grasping a piece of cardboard, snot (鼻涕)frozen to his face, a worn out jacket. And there I was struggling because I had to buy oil and groceries. But I decided to help. I pulled over to the man and handed him a five-dollar bill.

My mother was a supporter of physical punishment, but for all her talking she has never spanked (打屁股) my siblings and me only once. Instead, she found ways of punishment that left a more lasting memory than giving us a spanking. One of the most memorable of these occasions occurred when I was for.
In the early 70’s my mother attended college during the day and I was in daycare. One day at daycare watched an extremely tired mother attempt to pick up her daughter. The little girl asked, “Momma, are we going to McDonald’s for dinner ” The mother replied, “Honey, not tonight. Momma has to run a few errands (差事) and then we have to go home and cook dinner for Daddy.” “But I wanna go.” “Susie, I said not tonight. Maybe, if you are a good girl, we can go tomorrow.” Susie immediately dropped to the floor, kicking and screaming, “I want to go to McDonald’s.”
No amount of pleading (恳求)or scolding her mother tried stopped Susie’s tantrum (发脾气). Finally her mother gave in, “Okay, Susie, let’s go to McDonald’s.” Susie stopped yelling and smiling. She grabbed her mother’s hand and they left. To say I was amazed would be inaccurate; I was delighted that anything I wanted could be had by throwing a tantrum.
That day my mother picked me up early from daycare because we were going to a store to purchase some Christmas items. I was excited by the lights and decorations, and as we walked through the toy section on the way to the counter, I saw a toy I had to have. It was a white and red telephone whose bells rang as it was pulled along on a string. Looking lovingly up at my mother I asked, “Mama, can I have that telephone ”
She replied, “Baby, not now, but if you are a good girl, maybe Santa will bring it to you.” “But Mama, I want that telephone right now.” Her eyes narrowed and her hand tightened on mine. “Becky, you can’t have that telephone today, but if you misbehave, you can have a spanking.”

Paragraph 1:
By now we were standing in the long Holiday line to pay the bill, and I figure it was a good chance. I lay down on the ground and began screaming, “I want that telephone,” over and over again. Weary Christmas shoppers looked as my mother calmly said, “Becky, you better get up by the count of three or else. One...Two...Three.” Nothing. I was still in full tantrum. So then she lay down beside me on the floor, and began kicking and screaming, “I want a new car, I want a new house. I want some jewelry, I want...” Shocked, I stood up.
Paragraph 2:
“Mama, stop. Mama, get up,” I tearfully pleaded. She stood, and brushed herself off. At first stunned, the others waiting in line began to sporadically clap, and before I knew it they were cheering and laughing and patting my mother on her back. She blushed and took a little bow and the next thirty minutes in line was pure misery for me as various parents leaving the store, shake their heads at me and say with a smile, “Your mom got you good. I bet you’ll never try that again.” And I didn’t, because it left a lasting mental picture more effective than any physical mark.

Monday started out great. I woke up on time, ate breakfast and did some last minute studying for my first hour math test. I was confident of getting good grades. Then I left my house. Ten minutes later, I was settled with my friends on the school bus. We were busy chatting about how we spent our weekend. At one stop, Fat Ryan got on hurriedly. He tripped over someone's foot accidentally and THUMP! He fell flat onto the floor.
Every one of us on the bus looked on and laughed crazily. Ryan struggled to his feet, dusted the jacket and made his way to an empty seat. He tried to laugh with us, but his face was burning with embarrassment. The rest of the morning flew by. I did well in my math test. I read two more chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird in English class. It wasn't long before there went the lunch bell. I met my friends from the cheerleading team in the dining hall. Then I couldn't help but notice Ryan a few tables away, sitting all alone. He caught me looking. I smiled at him quickly and looked away.
When we finished eating, we headed out to the courtyard to practice a cheer we would do at that night's football game. After a little practice, we nailed the cheer, so we decided we only needed to go through it one last time. Again, just like the rest of my day so far, the cheer was going great. I raised my leg for one last toe touch. RIIPPP! I felt my jeans split down the middle of my backside.
I froze. I had no idea what to do but stand still. Then I heard people burst out laughing, and I saw them pointing at my torn jeans. Trying to cover myself with my hands, I tried to laugh too, but I felt tears began to well up in my eyes.

He played flawlessly (完美无瑕地), so much so that it sounded like a recording. Hamed left quietly.

02 ---打屁股教育
读后续写 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

03 ---不要嘲笑别人
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

04---不以貌取人
读后续写 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Old Man Donovan was a mean man who hated children. He threw rocks at them and even shot at them with a shotgun. At least that’s what we had heard.
His small farm bordered our neighborhood where my younger sister, Leigh Ann, and I lived when we were growing up. His farm was long, narrow, and quaint. It held two treasures. One was his beautiful fruit.
There were many varieties of fruit: pears, apples, and lots more I just can't think of. The fruit naturally drew the children to his land. It made them into thieves. But my sister and I didn't dare to take his fruit because of the horrible rumors we had heard about Old Man Donovan.
One summer day, we were playing in a nearby field. It was time to head back home. My sister and I were feeling very daring that day. There was a short cut to our house that went through the Donovan farm. We thought he wouldn't be able to see us run across his property around the luscious fruit trees. We were almost through the farm when we heard, "Hey, girl!" in a gruff, low voice. We stopped dead in our tracks! There we were, face to face with Old Man Donovan. Our knees were shaking. We had visions of rocks pounding our bodies and bullets piercing our hearts.
"Come here," he said, reaching up to one of his apple trees. Still shaking, we went over to him. He held out several ripe, juicy, red apples. "Take these home,” he commanded. We took the apples with surprised hearts and ran all the way home. Of course, Leigh Ann and I ate the apples.
As time went on, we often went through Old Man Donovan's farm, and he kept on giving us more luscious fruit. One day, we stopped by to see him when he was on his front porch. We talked to him for hours. While he was talking, we realized that we had found the other hidden treasure: the sweet, kind heart hidden behind his gruff voice. Soon, he was one of our favorite people to talk to. Unfortunately, his family never seemed to enjoy our company. They never smiled or welcomed us in.
