Going against the trend of going to well-known yet crowded tourist destinations on vacation, a growing number of holidaymakers in China are spending their holidays at less-known places to look for unique and relaxed holiday experiences. “Reverse tourism”(反向旅游)has appeared as a new trend among young holidaymakers in China.
During the weeklong public holiday, which ended on Oct 7, large numbers of vacationers, especially youth who long to escape their busy city lives, avoid popular holiday destinations in order to get off the beaten track and enjoy some peace and quietness.
According to data from online travel agency Qunar, the number of rooms booked at hotels in less-traveled cities during the holiday was up 30 percent year-on-year. Bookings for four and five-star hotels in less-traveled places, including Linxia in Gansu province and Shizuishan in Ningxia, all increased at least 10 times from the same period of 2021. Even 12.5 percent of youth who normally have little time for themselves simply had a time in a hotel to make the much-awaited holiday more relaxing.
Besides crowds, some vacationers chose less-traveled places to save on the cost of trips to popular destinations, which often involve expensive tickets, meals and hotel stays. What’s more, less-known attractions are able to offer more natural experiences, according to social media posts. And unlike popular destinations, some undeveloped places with little online attention can offer more surprises.
Jiang Han, a senior researcher at the Beijing-based public policy think tank Pangoal(盘古智库), said that reverse tourism will become one of the future directions for the market and is an opportunity for growth which can match the camping economy.

Five seconds are left on the clock. The ball is passed from one player to another. The athletes move quickly pa st opponents(对手). In the final second, a player scores the winning goal. What sets this match apart The players are in wheelchairs.
Wheelchair rugby is played in more than 25 countries around the world, with men and women competing equally. It is also a sport in the Summer Paralympics, the world’s second-largest sporting event after the Olympics.
The sport’s rules and equipment are different from traditional rugby, which has 15 players on an outdoor field and kicking methods that are similar to football in the United States. Wheelchair rugby is played indoors on a small hardwood court. Only four players from each 10-member team are on the court at the same time. In wheelchair rugby, the ball is smaller than a traditional rugby ball and round instead of oval(椭圆形). This makes it easier to carry on one’s knee. It’s also easier to catch, which is important because some players struggle with hand movements.
In wheelchair rugby, the aim is to carry the ball across the goal line. Instead of kicking other players along the way, the athletes crash with each other in order to kick the ball out.
In New Zealand, the All Blacks, the traditional rugby team, are widely known. But not everyone knows about the Wheel Blacks, who travel across the country and internationally to compete.
Members of this great team won the gold medal in the 2004 Paralympic Games and the third medal in the 2019 Asia-Oceania Championships.
The team captain encourages everyone to find a sport they love, no matter what limitations they may have. “In any sport that you’re wanting to try,” he said, “just go for it. Don’t be afraid to push the limit.”
28. What is special about the match introduced in the text
A. It is very competitive.
B. There’s something wrong with the players’ bodies.
C. Men and women compete together.

C. Different rugby balls. D. Differences between two kinds of sports.
30. What happens during the wheelchair rugby
A. Athletes never carry the ball. B. Athletes break the rules a lot.
C. Athletes knock into each other. D. Athletes kick other players wildly.
31. What does the captain encourage others to do
A. Face limitations and do the sport they love.
B. Try their best in the sport to win an honor.
C. Do more exercise to keep healthy.
D. Take part in different sports if they have time.

A volcanic eruption created a new but possibly changeable island in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean. An underwater volcano next to the Kingdom of Tonga erupted in early September, causing lava(岩浆)to rise to the surface. The steam(蒸汽)and water out of it then formed into a new land mass, measuring at over eight acres.
The Home Reef seamount is the place where the volcano erupted on September 10th, 2022. NASA’s Earth Observatory noted that it took about eleven hours for the land mass to rise out of the water. The agency published an image that has spread on social media that shows the size of the new unnamed island.
Over the weekend, the Tonga Geological Services stated the island was about 8.6 acres and measured about 50 feet above sea level. While volcanic activities continued to plague the Home Reef, only a couple of neighboring the Tonga islands were at low risk. “All sailors are, however, advised to sail beyond 4 kilometers away from Home Reef until further notice,” officials with the Tonga Geological Services noted in a statement.
Underwater volcanic eruptions near Tonga that led to new islands, although uncommon, have happened a few times over the last two centuries, including in 1852, 1857, 1984 and 2006. However, NASA’s Earth Observatory showed that many of these volcanic islands existed only for a few months or years.
“Islands created by undersea volcanoes often last only for a short time, though very few sometimes last for years. Home Reef has had four recorded periods of eruptions, including events in 1852 and 1857,” the agency noted. “An island created by a 12-day eruption from nearby Late’iki volcano in 2020was washed away after two months, while an earlier island created in 1995 by the same volcano remained for 25years.”
32. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 1
A. How the lava rose to the surface.
B. How an unnamed island formed.
C. Why an unnamed island disappeared.
D. Why an underwater volcano erupted.
33. What does the underlined word “plague” mean in Paragraph 3
A. Change. B. Improve. C. Measure. D. Trouble.
34. Which of the following best describes the islands created by undersea volcanoes
A. Short-lived. B. Common. C. Fast-growing. D. Huge.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Tonga Islands Are at Risk
B. NASA Made New Discoveries in the Pacific
C. Underwater Volcano Creates New Island in the Pacific
D. Volcanic Eruption Ruins Neighboring Tonga Islands

I was 15 years old, living with my parents in a countryside 18 miles outside of Durban, South Africa. We were far from the town and had no neighbors, so I would always look forward to going to the town to visit friends and hang out with them.
On a sunny Saturday, my father had to attend an important meeting in the town in the afternoon and I begged him to drive me to the town to visit my friend Toby. To my wild joy, he agreed and said, “I will pick you up from Toby’s house at 5: 00 p. m., and then we will go home together. Have a nice day!” Excitedly jumping into his car, I dreamt of my happy time in the town with Toby. About 30 minutes later, we arrived at the town and I waved goodbye to father.
After chatting and dining with Toby at his house, we went to the nearest movie theatre at around3: 30 p. m. I got so absorbed in John Wayne’s latest movie that I totally forgot the time. It was not until 5: 30p. m. that I suddenly remembered the appointment with my father. Toby and I ran back as fast as we could to his house. As I had expected, Toby’s parents and my father had already been waiting for us at the doorway of the house. My father and I said goodbye to them and walked towards the car. “Why are you so late ” My father said in an anxious voice. So ashamed was I that I didn’t dare to tell him the truth and I murmured(小声说),“I had to buy a book in Uncle Tom’s bookstore,” not realizing that he had learned about the truth from Toby’s parents.
I was ready to be scolded(责备)in the face when he caught me lying. To my surprise, however, he said calmly, “There must be something wrong with the way I brought you up. I haven’t given you the courage to tell the truth.” Then he was lost in thought.

Third, having learned English for 10 years, I can speak fluent English, which makes it convenient for me to communicate with others. My purpose is to make more people realize the importance of protecting wild animals. I’d appreciate it if I can be accepted!

第二节(满分25分)
参考范文:
There was dead silence in the car on the way home. I knew my father was angry, but I didn’t expect him to be so calm about it. I kept looking out the window, feeling increasingly guilty about what I had done. After a while, he broke the silence and said, “Son, we all make mistakes. The important thing is to learn from them and not repeat them again. I know you’re a good kid, and I’m sure you’ll do better in the future.”
After I heard my father’s words, tears of regret ran down my face. I realized that my father was not angry with me, but disappointed that I had not told him the truth. His words stayed with me, and I knew that I had learned a valuable lesson that day. I decided then and there that I would never again be late for an appointment and that I would always tell the truth, no matter what the results were.

W: Let me see your boarding pass. So, your original reservation is on flight SA396 which leaves at 6: 30 p. m.
M: Yes. My meeting was scheduled to end at 5: 00 p. m. But it ended one hour early. And I’m hoping to catch flight SA285 and get home earlier.
W: Okay, Mr. Green. You are the third on the waiting list. Your name will be called when we start checking in for the flight.
M: Thanks. By the way, did your system show that I’m a gold member
W: Oh, I’m sorry that I overlooked that. In that case, you will be number one on the list now.
M: Good that I asked. And when will you check in
W: In about forty minutes. And you don’t have any checked bags, do you
M: No, I don’t. Just carry-ons.
W: Excellent. Now you can have a seat in the waiting area and read some magazines to kill time.

M: Sit down, everyone. And put your books away. We won’t need them. Our class today will be different. To start with, I’d like to thank everyone for being kind to each other. I always notice everyone’s caring behavior towards other classmates. And we can all learn to treat each other better. We all want to live in a happier world, right I’m talking about being polite and how it makes life better for everyone. I was lucky to learn these simple rules from my parents when I was your age. These rules improved my life in school and work, so I want to share them with you all as well. First, never make fun of others for making mistakes. Second, always let people speak and listen to them closely. And most importantly, treat others the way you want to be treated. Don’t worry about writing these down. Instead, I’ll share a paper with these rules listed. Before we review the next rules, I’d like some of you to present a story with the class about a very polite person you know.
