Class Profile:
There are eleven students in the classroom, with the majority of them being from China. Most students actively engage in sharing their views with others. However, they demonstrate weakness in analyzing the structure of the language.
Anticipated Problems with Tasks and Classroom Management Solutions
The material I chose for this grammar lesson contains some unrelated sentence structures, such as relatives, which might pose a challenge for students in today's lesson. For example: Visiting the candy shop and trying some of the same kind of candy that American southerners made 150 years ago is a rare experience. I will modify the material and tailor it to focus on the target language for today.
Some more confident students are willing to share their opinions during the lead-in stage, which may take longer time than expected. Acknowledge students' engagement and inform them that they also have opportunities to share their ideas during the freer practice.
During the free practice, students may need more time to think of ideas for the questions, which could result in insufficient time for pair discussions. Teacher gives a demo as an example with the class. Give students thinking time before the pair discussion.
Language Focus (MPF)
Language analysis of Meaning, Pronunciation and Form (MPF). Include how you will convey and check meaning, any check questions, illustrate meaning/form/pronunciation, board plan, presentation and practice of pronunciation features of the language you plan to teach and state what you anticipate will be difficult for students and how you plan to deal with it.

Meaning/use The "-ing" form can function as a noun. These nouns are called gerunds and can be the subject of a clause, followed by a third-person singular (he/she/it) form of the verb. Form(Spelling the -ing form) We form the -ing form (also known as the present participle) by adding -ing the base form. We drop -e if the base form ends in a single letter -e. take -> taking. (This is not the case with double e: see -> seeing.) We double the consonant... if the base form ends in a single vowel + single consonant. sit -> sitting. Exceptions are consonants w, x, y. sew -> sewing, box -> boxing play -> playing in two-syllable verbs if the base form ends in a single vowel + single consonant, and the stress is on the second syllable. forget -> forgetting, prefer -> preferring if the base form has two syllables and ends in -l label -> labelling (This rule doesn’t apply in American English.) We change a base form ending in ie to y. lie -> lying We add “k” to a base form ending in -c. picnic -> picnicking Pronunciation Visiting the candy shop and trying some of the same kind of candy is a rare experience. P-”visiting”/ v z t / “trying”/ tra / Riding on the only steam engine in the southeastern United States is a special treat. P-”riding”/ ra d / Appreciating the amazing scenery is both educational and fun. P-”appreciating”/ pri ie t / Problems with meaning Students may mistakenly think that the gerund represents the continuous tense. In this context, students may think it's talking about things happening right now. Problems with form Students may write “triing” instead of “trying”. Problems with pronunciation Students may find it hard to pronounce the “-ing” and pronounce it as / n/. Meaning: Refer back to the marker sentence and ask students accqs: Is it talking about things happening right now No Form: Highlight the correct record on the board. Pronunciation Teacher models the sound naturally and students drill chorally.
