When Friday came finally, Terri and my classmates arrived on time. My time with Terri passed by in a flash, and I found myself actually enjoying her company. We chatted about her family and her battles with poverty. We discovered that we both played violin, and my favorite part of the afternoon occurred when she played the violin for me. I was amazed by how beautifully she played. A wave of happiness crept over our faces. It seemed as if the birthday had brought us into another beautiful world. Before we knew it, the last ray of sunshine shone on the roof. They waved goodbye to me.
From then on, Terri and I became best friends. We studied and played together, helping each other when facing difficulties. Happiness came back to Terri’s face. When Terri was laughed at by others, I always shouted, “Let her alone.” At that moment, tears of gratitude were welling up in her eyes. As time went on, we became closer. It struck me that if it hadn’t been for the birthday, I wouldn’t have found a true friend. I know that true confidence is not proven by destroying another’s self-esteem, but by having the strength to stand up for Terri Jackson’s world.
