When I was 10, I was always joked by my fellow Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) mates, including John. Words were like, “Dick is the best player in the CCA! He only knows how to play ‘Mary had a Little Lamb’ on the trumpet (小号)!”
Once, the moment I left the school, I took out my earpiece, listening to recordings like a broken recorder. I got so concentrated that I didn’t see the wall in front and fell on the ground. Luckily for me, a passer-by saw what had happened and immediately called the ambulance. When I woke up in the hospital, however, the nurse told me that I suffered severe leg injuries. I could have stopped practicing but that was not what I wanted. I wanted to practice even in the hospital. “One leg injury would not stop me; it would only make me feel more motivated,” I replied to the nurse.
That was a hard period of my life. If I had not been careless, I would not have this problem. Yet if I haven’t gotten myself into this problem, I would not be as motivated and would not have that experience teaching me a life lesson. My parents and my best friend had come to give me emotional support, telling me what had happened during CCA today and advising me on how to become a better player. After day-and-night hard practice, I finally perfected and went back to my CCA.
On the selection day, the conductor praised me and asked how I had improved so much. I explained that it was because of my determination, my family and my friends. The conductor then said that I was a role model and that the whole band should follow my motivation and practice instead of being like John. This experience made me what I am today. Currently, I am the best player and the head of the secondary school military band.
24. What did the author want to do after hearing the nurse’s words
A. Go back to his team. B. Meet his family and friends.
C. Stop practicing and get some rest. D. Continue his practice in the hospital.
25. Why was the author praised by the conductor
A. He performed better than John. B. He got the first prize on the selection day.
C. He was selected the head of the band. D. He didn’t give up even with severe injuries.
26. Which word can best describe the author
A. Creative. B. Intelligent. C. Friendly. D. Determined.
27. Which can be the best title for the text
A. A Terrible Accident B. An Unexpected Result
C. An Experience to Shape Myself D. A Desire to Be Better
C
Human and their inventions, such as cars or plastic, have caused most environmental pollution on Earth. Today car emissions (排放物) are a major source of air pollution leading to climate change. In the meanwhile, plastics fill our ocean, creating a significant health issue to marine (海洋的) animals.
And what about the electric light, which is thought to be one of the greatest human inventions of all time Electric light can be a beautiful thing, guiding us home when the sun goes down, keeping us safe and making our homes bright. However, like CO2 emissions and plastic, too much of a good thing has started to influence the environment. Light pollution, the wrong use of outdoor light, is affecting human health, wildlife behavior and our ability to observe stars.
Light pollution is a global issue. This became obvious when the World Atlas of Artificial Night Sky Brightness, a computer-created map based on thousands of satellite photos, was published in 2016, which can be viewed online. The map shows how and where our globe is lit up at night. Vast areas of North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia are glowing (发光)with light, while only the most distant regions on Earth (Greenland, Central African Republic and Niue) are in total darkness. Some of the most light-polluted countries in the world are Singapore, Qatar, and Kuwait.
Sky glow is the brightening of the night sky, mostly over cities, due to the electric lights of cars, streetlamps, offices, factories, outdoor advertising, and buildings, turning night into day for people who work and play long after sunset.
People living in cities with high levels of sky glow have a hard time seeing more than a handful of stars at night. Astronomers (宇航员) are particularly concerned with sky glow pollution as it reduces their ability to view stars.
Mostly over 80 percent of the world’s population, and 99 percent of Americans and Europeans live under sky glow.
28. What can we learn from paragraph 2
A. Electric light should be not be used outdoors.
B. Electric light is the main factor to keep us safe.
C. Electric light has both advantages and disadvantages.
D. Electric light is the greatest human invention.
29. Which of the following places is least affected by sky glow
A. Niue. B. Singapore. C. Kuwait. D. Qatar.
30. What activity in real life may cause light pollution
A. Keeping the streetlamps on. B. Littering plastics about.
C. Driving cars around. D. Overfishing marine animals.
31. What’s the attitude of astronomers towards light pollution
A. Uncaring. B. Unclear. C. Worried. D. Satisfied.
D
The unusual whistle language used as a means of communication by villagers in the remote and mountainous northern Turkey has been added to the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The language is a highly developed high-pitch system of whistling to communicate in rugged areas where people mostly cannot see each other. It can allow people to communicate across great distances, up to 5 pared with other similar whistle languages in Spain’s Canary Islands, in Mexico, or in Greek villages, it has a higher tone and larger vocabulary.
This unusual form of communication, which dates some 500 years ago, to the Ottoman Empire, was born from sheer necessity and widespread across the Black Sea regions.

For centuries, the language has been passed on from grandparent to parent, from parent to child. Now, though, many of its most skilful speakers who use their tongue, teeth and fingers are aging and becoming physically weak. Young people are no longer interested in learning the language or in finding ways to update its vocabulary with new words, and in a few generations it may be gone for good.
“Our bird language is very convenient and efficient to communicate across the valleys. It has many benefits over yelling, which is bad for our throats.” said Avni Kocek, head of the bird village adding that despite setbacks because of technology, “Bird language is still used by many of us. Whistle language is transmitted from our elders to us and we have the duty to transmit it to our children. We are making efforts to keep our culture alive through the yearly Bird Language Festival.”
Besides, the bird language has been required to be taught at primary schools since 2014 by district authorities in order to put the practice in younger generations.
32. What is probably the meaning of the underlined word in Paragraph 2
A. crowded B. suitable C. unsmooth D. impressive
33. What’s the biggest threat to the bird language
A. Other whistle languages are more effectively protected.
B. The need to use it in everyday life is disappearing.
C. Many of its most skilful speakers are growing old.
D. Young people find it too difficult to learn well enough.
34. What’s the most effective measure so far taken to protect the bird language
A. It has become a subject at primary schools.
B. Bird Language Festival is celebrated every month.

C篇
24. C 25. A 26. A 27. C
【分析】本文主题是“人与自然”和“人与社会”。本文主要讲述 light pollution,28题聚焦第二段的主要内容,中间一句话,like CO2 emissions and plastic, too much of a good thing has started to influence the environment. Light pollution, the wrong use of outdoor light, is affecting human health, wildlife behavior and our ability to observe stars. 所以,选择C选项。29题请聚焦题干 least affected place,答案出自第三段中 only the most distant regions on Earth (Greenland, Central African Republic and Niue) are in total darkness 这句话,故选择A项。30题可采用排除的办法,结合第四段 due to the electric lights of cars, streetlamps, offices, factories, outdoor advertising 这句话,选择A选项。31题是观点态度题,语篇中用concerned这个词,选项中用它的等义词worried.

【33题详解】
推理判断题。由第四段But 50 years ago, the bird language suffered greatly due to the impact of the progression of technology and nowadays the rapid growth of cellular mobile systems has put this cultural heritage under serious threat. (但在50年前,它受到了科技进步的冲击,而在今天,移动电话系统的快速发展使这一文化遗产受到严重威胁)可知对鸟语最大的威胁是每日生活中,使用它的需要正在消失,故选B。
【34 题详解】
