Last Wednesday witnessed our New Year concert, which was spoken highly of by both teachers and students.
The concert, aimed at lightening youth with songs and arousing our passion to embrace the new year, attracted the best
singers from each grade. They presented spectacular performances, ranging from folk songs to English songs. Immersed in
the festive atmosphere, everyone present enjoyed a visual and auditory feast. The highlight was the teachers’ chorus, The
Brightest Star, setting off the climax of the concert.
Not only did this activity get us mentally relaxed, but it inspired us to strive hard in the new year. More activities like
this are expected.
第二节(满分 25分)
One day, Ms. Green invited me to read my new story in front of my class in the writing lesson next week. My heart
skipped a beat and disbelief washed over me. I grunted my anxiety about being laughed at. Stroking my hair gently, Ms.
Green assured me that my story full of fantasy would win everyone’s heart. Days seemed to be minutes. In a flash, the big
day came! My heart beating wildly and palms sweaty, I wobbled onto the platform, took out my manuscript and stammered
out my story. At first, someone teased me about my stutter. But as the afternoon sun cast a gentle glow through the window,
gradually everyone got immersed in the fantasy world of my story. No sooner had I finished my story than my class burst
into a round of thunderous applause. Eyes sparkling with pride, Ms. Green grinned from ear to ear, saying excitedly to me,
“You are bound to be a great author and believe in yourself.”
30 years later, when I did become a best-selling author, I decided to visit Ms. Green. The moment I saw grey-haired
Ms. Green, tears of gratitude welled up in my eyes and later I presented my newly-published book to her, adding
emotionally, “Ms. Green, had it not been for your encouragement, I wouldn’t be where I am.” She hugged me tightly in her
arms, whispering in my ear, “Your own faith and efforts really count. You don’t have to walk in others’ shoes or follow
their steps.” The breeze blowing and the birds singing, in her garden we two recalled our golden days in Jefferson High
School. Deep in my mind, I knew I could walk in my own shoes and become the best version of myself, the unique version
of myself.

听力原文
Text 1
M: Those lights are beautiful! I love all the colors. They are too thin to be metal, though. Are they made of plastic
W: No. They are traditional paper lanterns from my country. (1) We make them for certain festivals. Would you like one
Text 2
W: There’s no phone signal in this building. How can I phone my mom I suppose I’ll have to wait until I see her tomorrow.
M: She’ll want to know you arrived safely. Send her an email from my computer. (2)
Text 3
W: What’s stopping you from moving to New York You spend so much time traveling there each week for work.
M: I tried to move for a long time. When I finally found a place to live, it was just too expensive. (3)
Text 4
W: What time do you usually leave for work You’re never home when I wake up. I’d like to cook you breakfast sometime.
M: I leave at 6:00 daily. (4) Depending on when I wake, sometimes I lift weights for an hour. I rarely eat breakfast because
there’s no time.
Text 5
M: I love my grandma’s farm. I like working with nature all day.
W: I prefer an office job. But I understand why you like it. It’s peaceful out there.
M: It is. It also feels good to eat what you’ve grown. (5)
Text 6
M: What am I doing wrong I keep getting the same answer, but it’s not right. I’ve done the same problem twice already.
W: Let me finish this question, Tom. (6) Then I can check your math and compare answers.
M: Mrs. Randall always gives us the hardest homework! Our other classmates all agree, don’t you (7)
W: She does give difficult homework. (7) My father made a good point about this fact, though. He said that the more
challenging the work is, the more rewarding it is to complete it.
M: That’s wise, but I don’t usually feel rewarded after finishing. I always have to save her work for last because it’s
exhausting. Maybe I will ask for extra help after class tomorrow.
Text 7 (第 8题为推断题)
W: Turn left at the next street.
M: I can’t. Look at the signs. I have to turn right.
W: We’ll go round the block. I don’t want to go the long way round.
M: This city is so busy. The best way to get around it is on a motor bike.
W: You shouldn’t be saying that as a taxi driver. You’ll put yourself out of business.
M: Well, it’s true. The buses take forever and you can’t really walk everywhere.
W: When I arrived at the station just now, there were signs for the subway. (9)
M: But they haven’t finished building it — six months to go. (9)
W: Oh yes, I remember my friend telling me that. Right, she lives here, opposite the market.

W: So, you think you did well at the interview, do you (10)
M: Yes, or at least, that’s the impression I got. (10)
W: Well, you have all the qualifications.
M: I do, but they didn’t spend a lot of time talking about them.
W: Were you nervous
M: Surprisingly, no. I was expecting to be interviewed by two people at the most, but there were three times that number.
(11)
W: That would have made me very nervous.
M: I’m usually shaky when I talk to groups of people, but I was OK at the interview. (10)
W: You certainly looked very smart in your new suit. I think that would have helped build your confidence.
M: To be honest — and I don’t mean to show off here — I just think they liked me for who I am. (12)
W: Your personality (12)
M: Yes. (12) It seemed like I was their kind of person.
W: We are talking as if you have already got the job, but we don’t know yet.
M: That’s very true. I shouldn’t be counting my chickens before they are hatched.
Text 9

W: I remember when I was a baby, watching ballet on the TV and loving it.

M: But you had lessons
W: Yes. Then, when I was 13, a lady from a ballet company came to see us and said I had talent. (15)
M: Like a dream come true.
W: It really was.
M: So, both pairs of shoes I make have to be white, do they (13) (16)

purple.
M: It sounds very beautiful and very dramatic.
W: It is, and the music is beautiful as well. You should come and see us.
M: I’d love to, but tickets for those shows are very expensive. They are the best in the world, with prices to match.
W: I would give you a ticket but my family have all my free ones.
Text 10
Good morning, students. As your headmaster, I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and have come back to school this
Monday morning feeling refreshed and ready to work hard for a bright future. (20) In my opinion, hope is not enough. Hard
work, careful planning and determination are the keys to success. And, of course, listen well to your teachers. One person
who showed all these qualities is Wang Seng, a famous former student at this school whose name you will all know. (17)
You will also know that Wang Seng had a serious problem in his early life. A road accident on a terrible Friday 20 years
ago left him with his disabled legs. Since he was 10 years old, he has had to use a wheelchair. (18) (19) However, with hard
work, great care, courage and determination, he has managed not just to survive but also to become extremely successful,
creating one of our country’s most successful companies. The day after tomorrow, Wang Seng will be visiting his old
school here, to speak to all of you about his life and the importance of hard work and honesty. (20) So my message is this:
whatever you choose to do, whether it is climbing a mountain or sailing across the dangerous ocean, I hope you will always
give it your best effort.
