The Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of the symbols of Australia. Standing on the bridge, you can also see the Sydney Opera House. It is just like a huge sailing boat on the water.
First opened in 1932, the bridge is one of the world’s largest steel arch (钢拱支架) bridges. It carries busy traffic between Sydney’s central business district (区域) and the North Shore. Its height is about 134 metres. It took eight years to build this bridge. During the period, about 1,400 men worked on it. At the time, there were no safety ropes. Luckily, not too many accidents happened.
Climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge is the experience of a lifetime. In 2017, 360 volunteers that were mainly from China and Canada climbed the bridge together and set a new record. The climb is fun, but you may hate the beginning of the climb because it is a little bit scary (吓人的). The path is very narrow if you are looking straight down. It looks very close between you and the water below. Soon the path will become wider, and you will not see too much water down anymore. And the moment you start looking around, you will be surprised at the sea views.
For your own safety, you can’t wear many things before climbing. However, your hats and glasses are proper. But you need to tie them down to your suit (套装). The suit connects you to the cable that ties you to the bridge.
