1. 委婉地请求别人做某事（提出请求）
句型：Could you do… / Could you please do…
你能……吗 / 请问你能……吗
(2)肯定回答： Certainly./Of course./With pleasure./
No problem./Yes, sure.
否定回答： No, I can’t./Certainly not./
No, I’m afraid I can’t.

【注意】回答只用can/can't，不用could/couldn't.

He couldn't/can't be fifty. 他不可能50岁。

1. Could I borrow that book 我可以借那本书吗？
borrow v. 借；借用
May I borrow your bike 我可以借用你的自行车吗？
【辨析】borrow与 lend
borrow 借入 borrow sth. from ＋地点 或borrow sth. from sb. You can borrow this novel from the library.你可以从图书馆借这本小说。
lend 借出 lend sb. sth.＝lend sth. to sb. I lent it to Lucy yesterday.我昨天将它借给露西了。
【注意】
keep也可表示“借”，是延续性动词，常与一段时间连用，表示“借用多长时间”。而borrow和lend是非延续性动词，不能与一段时间连用。
You can keep the book for a week.
这本书你可以借用一周。
2. Could I hang out with my friends after the movie？
看完电影后我可以和我的朋友闲逛吗？
hang out闲逛（常用于美语口语中），还可以表示“常去某处；泡在某处”。

【注意】当直接宾语是代词时，只能使用pass sth.to sb.

【归纳】类似pass后跟双宾语的常见单词：give，bring，teach，show，hand，throw，fetch，read，lend等。及物动词后的双宾语，交换位置后除用介词to，还可用for。如：buy sb. sth.＝buy sth. for sb.，cook sb. sth.＝cook sth. for sb.等。
【拓展】（1）pass ＝go past经过，穿过
eg：I passed a bank when I went to school.
我上学的时候经过一家银行。
（2）pass通过（考试、检查等），其反义词为fail（不及格）
