After six years of improvement, Ye Olde Black Bear in Tewkesbury, UK will be open to customers. The pub, which was established in 1308, is believed to have once been visited by William Shakespeare. But while many people in the town are delighted that one of its most famous buildings and businesses has been revived, others living close to it have a different voice.
The house has a large open area at the back for hosting live music events, for which the city Council has decided to review(校审) the licence following complaints from the public. The pub said, on its Facebook page: “To review the longstanding licence of The Black Bear is placing it at risk of closure.” It urged its supporters to write letters of support which it would forward on to the council.
The council said, in a letter to residents living near the pub, that possible measures it might take included limiting outdoor entertainment at the site to six days a year, ending at 10:30 pm each time, and requiring a noise limiting device to be fixed. The pub is run by landlord Luke Haynes and his family, who say their research shows it is the oldest pub which has always been a pub in the UK.
Luke said allowing only six events a year would mean the pub would not survive financially, adding profits earned by staging live music sessions in the summer would enable the pub to get through the winter.
He said: “The support from the town has been absolutely great. It’s a very small number of people who are complaining. We’ve had huge support from our neighbours. I’m trying to work with the council to come up with solutions to this.”
The pub’s fans have gathered behind the bid to keep it going, with an online demand having been signed by more than 2,800 people. Georgie Smith, who started it, said: “We believe closing the Black Bear would be harmful to our community, both socially and economically. “The importance of pubs in the UK cannot be overstated. They are part of our cultural heritage.”

Fennec foxes(耳廓狐) are the smallest fox in the world, weighing between 0.6 to 1.5 kilograms and standing only 20 centimeters tall. They look so sweet that you can’t help but entertain the thought of taking one home.
Originally coming from North Africa, the fennec fox can live in a range of desert environments and can be found throughout the Sahara desert and east to Sinai. They prefer dry areas with desert grasses or scrub vegetation.
Their ears half as long as their body not only help to give off much heat from the desert without sacrificing precious water by sweating, but also help them listen for their meal underground. Once the fox locates a tasty meal, it uses all four of its feet to start digging. In the wild, fennec foxes are big fans of insects, specifically locusts and grasshoppers. But they actually feed on everything from birds and their eggs to mice and small rabbits, significantly bigger than them. Fennec foxes tend to hunt at night, and they don’t like company when they do it.
During the day, fennec foxes like to hide themselves in shady spots to avoid the heat. They’re expert burrowers(掘穴动物), digging out tunnels that can reach up to 10 meters in length. They usually dig a series of these tunnels, with multiple exits so they can make a quick getaway if they have to. They often live in family groups of up to 10.Scientists have even found instances of multiple family groups sharing one complex den.
It’s not encouraged for anyone to have a fennec fox as a pet. They need special care, housing, and a diet that the average person usually cannot provide. While fennec foxes are commonly trapped for sale in the domestic pet trade, their main predators are certain large varieties of African owl, so they should be included as a threatened Species in time.
28.What mainly attracts people to have a fennec fox as a pet
A.Its small size. B.Its good look.
C.That it eats a little. D.That it is friendly to humans.
29.How do fennec foxes look for their food
A.They use their ears to judge where food is. B.Their sweat can draw insects to them.
C.They make good use of their eyes. D.They smell where food is.
30.What does the underlined word “multiple” mean in paragraph 4
A.Beautiful. B.Hidden. C.Small. D.Many.
31.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.African owls should be killed. B.We should protect fennec foxes.
C.It’s necessary to raise the foxes at home. D.In the wild Fennec foxes are short of food.

Trapped in a sea of cars on an endless highway, have you ever daydreamed about your car taking off and flying over the road Imagine if you could just turn a switch and free yourself from the traffic jams!
Actually, just a decade and a half after the Wright Brothers took off in their airplane in 1903, other people began chasing the dream of a flying car. The pioneers never managed to develop a reliable flying car, and some even died testing their inventions. However, they proved that a car could be built to fly, and inspired a new group of roadable aircraft enthusiasts. With advances in lightweight material, computer modeling and computer-controlled aircraft, things are changing.
After a century of unfulfilled promises, flying cars are just around the corner. Moller’s latest design, the Skycar M400, is designed to take off and land vertically(垂直地) in small spaces. It can reach speeds of 400 mph, and has a range of 900 miles. The fuel mileage will be similar to that of a medium-sized car, getting 20 miles to the gallon. The initial cost of a Skycar will be about $1 million, but once it begins to be mass produced that price could come down to as low as $60,000.
The four-seat Skycar is powered by eight engines on the side of the vehicle. If one fails, the other engines can sustain flight. To make the Skycar safe and available to the general public, it is completely controlled by computers using Global Positioning System(GPS) satellites. In case of an accident, the vehicle will release a parachute and airbags to reduce the impact of the crash.
The mass availability of flying cars could be very exciting or very scary, depending on how you look at it. If proper safeguards are put in place, they could be the answer to our ever-worsening traffic jams. Flying cars allow us to live hundreds of miles farther from work but make it to the office within a few minutes.
32.Why did the pioneers failed to make a reliable flying car in the past
A.The government wasn’t in favour of the invention.
B.They didn’t have modern technology.
C.There was no financial aid coming to them.
D.Difficulties drove them to give up their dreams.
33.Which aspect of the Skycar M400 does the fourth paragraph focus on
A.Its power. B.Its safety. C.Its size. D.Its usage.
34.According to the author, what role is the flying car most likely to play
A.To reduce traffic accidents. B.To get people amused.
C.To avoid traffic jams. D.To promote driving skills.
35.Which of the following can be used as the title of the passage
A.The Future of Cars B.Flying to Work in Your Car
C.The Way to Avoid Traffic Jams D.Moller’s Great Invention

It is a challenging journey to change their lives for the best and get the healthiest they knew how to. Lexi and Danny lived their lives like most other young couples who fell in love with each other and then made the decision to spend the rest of their lives together. The couple spent a lot of time watching TV and going to different restaurants, and as you would imagine, the endless junk foods were their “go-to” choice. Though they would manage to lose some weight during the time, but before long, they would gain it back.
Lexi weighed a 485 pounds at the age of 25, a weight that was quite unbelievable to imagine. Danny, on the other hand, was also overweight himself even though he was 200 pounds less than Lexi. However, the sad part of everything was that they were both gaining more weight on what they already had with each passing day. Some of their daily activities, no matter how simple, became a real problem for the couple. They couldn’t go for walks or bicycle rides no matter how easy they were. However, in 2016 just after a year after the marriage, they decided to make a positive change in their life.
The couple decided to take on a challenge that would change their lives forever and for good! So many people make promises to themselves and others that they don’t really carry out but the couple were not about to do like the others. Theirs were destined(注定的) to come to reality. They made a detailed plan to go on a diet and take exercise on a daily basis. At first, they thought the whole process would have been a piece of cake. As they pressed on, each passing day showed them that this challenge would not be a walk in the park. They got a gym membership to help out.

第一节:
Possible version:
The person I thank most
When it comes to my favorite person, I would say my English teacher Mr. Sun. He is in his twenties now. His lessons are so lively that all of us find great fun in learning English. It is because of his encouragement that I have got enough confidence in speaking English. He is the person I will remember for good. How lucky I am to be his student! He is not only my teacher but also my friend. Thank him from the very bottom of my heart!
第二节:
Paragraph 1:
The weight-losing lessons offered at the gym were not easy, a real challenge for them. At first, no matter what efforts they made, they couldn’t keep at the pace of the other people in the class, because of their huge weight. Especially for Lexi, she was unable to get through with the lessons. However, the encouragement and support from their friends and family led them to keep up. They worked as a team, supporting each other, so none of them would fail. They kept up on the journey to lose weight.
Paragraph 2:
Just after a month, they both felt so much better; and they were pleased with the way they looked. Of course, this new feeling gave them a lot of confidence to keep pushing to achieve the final goal they were working for. Before long, their efforts began to pay off. Lexi was dropping about 20 pounds and Danny 11 pounds per month. Now the couple both have a good shape and enjoy a happy life. To keep up the gain, they are still taking exercise every day, however busy they are. Importantly, they keep off junk foods.

Text 3
M: I’d like one of those phones that I can use to do everything like sending e-mails, paying bills, making a video call.
W: I suggest you take this one. It’s got the latest technology. You just talk into it, and it can create documents for you.
Text 4
M: Would you be unhappy if I left early tonight I have a bad backache, and I have a job interview tomorrow.
W: Oh, not at all. I’d be stressed out if I were you. Don’t worry about it.
M: Thanks. Enjoy your party.

W: Are there any other requirements for this position
M: Yes, you have to master several languages.
W: Well, I can speak Spanish and a little bit of French. And I am attending an English class now.

M: Didn’t you want to go to the Western art museum I thought you were interested in cowboys.
W: I only wanted to go there because it’s free. And it’s really close to our home. But now I’m interested in the mode m art exhibit.
M: That’s a two-hour drive from here! And it’ll be quite crowded there.
W: But Dad gave me one hundred dollars to spend on my spring break. And I really want to go.
M: I’m not sure I can drive you there, Jenny. My spring break is two weeks later than yours.
W: I know. But we could go on the e on! It’s a nice drive, Bill.

M: What can I do for you, madam
W: I’d like to buy two boxes of Chinese mooncakes.
M: All right. We have the Guangdong style and the Suzhou style. Which one do you want
W: The Guangdong style.
M: OK. Anything else
W: Let me see. Ah, yes! I want some peaches.
M: Sorry, peaches are out of season now. But we have some good pears. They are just in from the country.
W: Good. I’ll take three kilos of pears. How much would that come to
M: Just a moment, please. Sixty yuan for the mooncakes and twelve yuan for the pears. That’ll be seventy-two yuan in all.

W: Youth Travel Agency. May I help you
M: Yes, my family want to take a vacation this winter to some place warmer.
W: I understand. How long is your vacation
M: Only a week during the Christmas holiday.
W: OK. We can find you a flight to Australia, leaving at Christmas and coming back on New Year’s Eve. And it will only cos t 500 dollars per person.
M: Actually, we’d like to go somewhere nearer. One thousand dollars is a lot to spend for such a short time. How about some places nearer with few tourists
W: Sorry, I don’t think we have any at present. You should have come here ten days ago.

M: Hey Ivy, I forgot to register for the courses. I’m one day late, and most of the classes are full. What do you think I should do
W: Poor you, Daniel! You can’t do anything about that.
M: Did you register
W: Of course. And it wasn’t easy for me to register for Travel. It’s so popular.
M: What classes do you think are still open
W: Maybe Middle English, and Biology.
M: OK, what do you think about geography I want to take that class this term.
W: I took that class last year. Professor Miller is really cool! If you go to his office, you can have him write a card that will let you in, even if the class is full.
M: He does that7
W: I guess that’s because some people drop out of his class.
M: That makes sense. I think I’ll do that. Thanks for all the help.

Good evening. Today Mr. Johnson, a member of the International Olympic Committee visited a high school in Beijing. In his speech, he described the ancient Olympic Games and gave examples of some of the sports that still continue today. Athletes could only be men who spoke Greek, but now, both male and female athletes from all over the world can take part in the games. The modern Games, first held in 1896, are designed to make it possible for countries and people to live peacefully together. Mr. Johnson also talked about some famous athletes who have made Olympic history. He stated that Olympians had brought joy to people across the world with their attempts to push the limits of human achievements. One example is Michael Jordan who won his second Olympic gold medal after a long break. Mr. Johnson also mentioned Deng Yaping. She won many gold medals before retiring.
Mr. Johnson ended his speech by wishing the Olympic movement a successful future to match its glorious past. The audience really enjoyed his speech.
