It has been Wu Rongjin's dream to be a positive influence on her students since she started teaching at Luwan No. 1 Central Primary School in Shanghai.
The school, near the Memorial for the Site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC)(中共一大会址), has rich historical resources to help its students learn about the history of the CPC.
During a visit to the memorial in 2005, Wu noticed some of the students were not interested in the guide's description. Later, Wu arranged for the students to revisit the memorial, and write their own tour and narration script(解说词) in simple language. Wu wanted to help the students learn about the revolutionary(革命的) tradition in China, and treasure their happy lives.
A group of the students began working as tour guides, especially for visitors of their own age, at the memorial. The students' lively narrations have won high praise from visitors.
During the past 17 years, Wu has worked with the students (tour guides) to organize tours, write narration scripts, and explore new forms of narration in Chinese and English.
Many former members of the teenage narration team have continued taking part in related narration activities, even though many of them are now studying in middle schools or universities, or have even started working life.
Hu, now a middle school student, says he is often stopped on the street and told, “I remember you. You were a member of the teenage narration team at the memorial.” Lin, another former member of the team, is studying abroad. She says she can still remember all of the narration scripts.
24.Why did Wu lead the students to the memorial again
A.To help them further know about the history.
B.To make preparations for a history exam.
C.To collect information to write an article.
D.To teach them how to respect others.

A.It creates new jobs. B.It annoys the old.
C.It is a bad decision. D.It is a success story.
26.What does Lin think about the narration work

My name is Ben. I am 13, and I live in Chantilly, VA. Just yesterday, June 24, I was at home watching my sister, who is mentally handicapped(弱智的). My father was at work while my mother and younger sister were at my mother's office.
I had noticed the clouds growing darker and the ones to the east were turning green. At first I thought nothing of it, but then on TV, the weather reporter was announcing a big thunderstorm warning, one that usually brings hail(冰雹) and heavy rain.
After seeing that, I called my mother and told her about it. She told me I should not be worried because it was just a thunderstorm so we hung up. Then I looked outside and noticed it was almost pitch black at 4:30. I took a flashlight(手电筒) because I was sure the power was going to go out any second. Then no sooner had I gotten back from getting the flashlight than the weather reporter announced a Tornado Warning! I had never been in an actual tornado before, but I had seen some funnel clouds before in Montana.
Suddenly I realised I had no time to lose and I had to try to get my sister down the stairs to the basement in a matter of minutes. I surprisingly got her down there with no trouble at all and I raced back up the stairs to get the cordless phone. When I got back downstairs my dad called and told me to get downstairs immediately. I told him I was already down there! He said OK and we talked for a few seconds and then we hung up. Then_through_the_ basement_windows,_the_only_thing_I_could_see_was_lightning.
I do not recall hearing of any deaths, or too many injuries so I guess everyone got a good head start to run to their basements. Either that or we are all lucky.

C.he wanted to take care of his sister D.he was prepared for the power off

After an earthquake most survivors can be expected to recover over time, particularly with the support of family and friends. Some families will be able to return to their normal life quickly, while others will have to contend_with the destruction of their homes, medical problems, and injury to family members. Children especially will need time to recover from the loss of a loved one or a pet or from the closing down of their school.
Children often turn to adults for information, comfort and help. Parents should try to remain calm, answer children's questions honestly and remain understanding when they see changes in their children's behavior.
Children react differently to an earthquake depending on their ages, developmental levels and former experiences. Some will respond by withdrawing(不与人交往), while others will have angry outbursts(爆发). Parents should remain sensitive to each child's reactions. Parents should spend time talking to their children, letting them know that it's OK to ask questions and to share their worries. Although it may be hard to find time to have these talks, parents can use regular family mealtimes or bedtimes for them. They should answer questions briefly and honestly and be sure to ask their children for their opinions and ideas. Issues may come up more than once and parents should remain patient when you answer the questions again. For young children, parents, after talking about the earthquake, might read a favorite story or have a relaxing family activity to help them calm down. Parents should also tell children they are safe and spend extra time with them. They could play games outside or read together indoors. Most importantly, be sure to tell them you love them.
32.The underlined phrase “contend with” in Paragraph 1 can be replaced by “________”.
A.deal with B.make up C.put off D.turn back

A.All people will recover from an earthquake quickly.
B.Children may need a longer time to recover after an earthquake.
C.Children should turn to their classmates for help after an earthquake.
D.Children react in the same way as adults do to an earthquake.
34.When children ask the same question again, parents should ________.
A.read a favorite story to comfort them
B.ask them to help do some housework
C.be patient and answer the question again
D.take them out to play games
35.Which of the following pieces of advice is NOT mentioned in the passage
A.Keep a close watch on children's behavior.

Tips on How to Study Smarter
Having good study skills is always helpful. And it's more important in the present situation, where online classes are growing. Students are likely to learn without a teacher or parent watching over. __36__ Here are some tips to develop good study skills.
·Practice, practice, practice! Musicians practice their instruments. Athletes practice sports skills. The same should go for learning. __37__ In one study, students took practice tests over several weeks. On the final test, they scored better than those who studied in the normal way.
·Test yourself. Before big tests, you may often cover up the notes, and then try to recall them. This practice can help nearly everyone. You can put questions down on one side of the paper and the answers on the other side. __38__ Teachers often dig deeper. They don't just ask shallow questions.
·Learn from mistakes. A secret of science: Mistakes help understanding. If you don't find out what the answer is, you're wasting your time. Checking the answers can make your study time more efficient. Check to see if you are right. You can then focus on what you get wrong. __39__
·__40__ Students know some good study skills, yet many of you don't actually do these things. Often you fail to plan ahead. So do make plans. And try to stick to a routine, too. For example, you can have a set time and place where you do schoolwork and study. And get enough sleep—not just the night before the test but for weeks or months on end.
A.Focus on your plan.
B.You can add more skills.
C.Make a plan and stick to it.
D.In fact, mistakes are actually a primary key to learning.
E.Try to test yourself in the way the teacher asks questions.
F.So you will have to manage your time and study more on your own.
G.If you want to be able to remember information, the best thing you can do is practice.

A little girl whose parents had died lived with her grandmother and slept in an upstairs bedroom.
One night there was a fire in the house and the grandmother died while trying to rescue the child. The fire spread quickly, and the situation was terrible.
Neighbours called the fire department, and then stood helplessly by, unable to enter the house because flames blocked all the entrances. The little girl appeared at an upstairs window, crying for help, just as word spread among the crowd that the firefighters would be delayed a few minutes because they were all at another fire.
Suddenly, a man appeared with a ladder, put it up against the side of the house and disappeared inside. When he reappeared, he had the little girl in his arms. He delivered the child to the waiting arms below, and then disappeared into the night.
An investigation revealed that the child had no living relatives, and weeks later a meeting was held in the town hall to determine who would take the child into their home and bring her up.
A teacher said she would like to raise the child. She pointed out that she could ensure her a good education. A farmer offered her an upbringing(抚养) on his farm. He pointed out that living on a farm was healthy and satisfying. Others spoke, giving their reasons why it was the child's advantage to live with them.
Finally, the town's richest resident rose and said, “I can give this child all the advantages that you have mentioned here, plus money and everything that money can buy.”
Throughout all this, the child remained silent, her eyes on the floor.
“Does anyone else want to speak?” asked the meeting chairman. A man came forward from the back of the hall. He walked slowly and appeared to be in pain.

A Heroic Teen Missed a Competition but
Saved an Injured Woman
Last Saturday, Liu Wei, a senior school student of our school, helped an injured woman. On that day, Liu Wei was on his way to the hall where the English speaking competition took place when a woman fell off her bicycle carelessly. The woman struggled to get to her feet but failed, because her right leg was bleeding badly. Without any hesitation, Liu Wei came to her assistance. He applied pressure to the bleeding area and then tied his handkerchief firmly to the wound. Finally, he took the woman to the hospital nearby. It was at that time that he realised it was too late for the competition—he missed it.
In order to give the woman a hand, Liu Wei gave up the competition. As his fellow schoolmates and teachers, we should learn from him.
Paragraph 1:
When he got to the front of the hall, he stood directly in front of the little girl and held out his arms. His hands and arms were terribly scarred. The little girl cried out, “This is the man who rescued me!” With a leap, she threw her arms around the man's neck. She buried her face in his shoulder and sobbed for a few moments. Then she looked up and smiled, stating happily she would live with him.
Paragraph 2:
When asked about her choice, the girl gave people the reasons firmly. She said in a low but determined voice, “I really desire to get a good education that will give me chances to live my dreams. Besides, I know that money means a lot to me since I have no relatives to rely on. But it's the man who saved my life when I was desperately facing a fire like that. Without him, I wouldn't be here, waiting for a new choice. I hope that I can do whatever I can to pay back his kindness.”
